I'm trying to replace the fuel pump on my 97 Legacy, and the negative threads on the new pump (Delphi, like yours) are too big for the original wires. Any advice?
Hey idk if you still answer people but i did this with the same pump and its drove good until i hit the highway and it made a pop then the throttle was unresponsive. I took the pump out and inspected it. I can hear it turn on but the car turned off and will not spark. I believe there is no fuel pressure but could be wrong. Please please for the love of god help me get my legacy back
It sound like a fuse blew to me. Check your fuses for fuel pump and other fuses such as ignition. Check to see if you have ignition. If the fuel pump is turning on it and the car is not starting, its leaning towards spark. You could also check fuel pressure. Basically the only test you do with the pressure tester is to hook it up and turn the key to ON. The pump will kick on and pressurize the line and give you your reading. However, this also depends on where you hook up the pressure tester. If you hook it up before your FPR you will only see what pressure the pump is giving your fuel lines. WHich should be 40-55ish PSI (dont quote me on that). If you hook it up after the FPR, your reading will tell you what the fuel line is seeing. This will better help you in diagnosing your problem.
Having a strange issue. When I try to purchase this part at my auto stores they only have a pump without the positive negative terminals, instead the end is female and has a slot to insert a plug. Any insights on this?
in case someone else wonders, they are available both ways; with a plastic 2 wire connector or the 2 studs. I prefer the 2 studs so I don't have to cut the wires and splice on the connector.
Oh, One other video I saw talks about tapping on or around the fuel pump to see if it starts running. Mine did. I take that as pretty good indication that's my problem
I can’t tell you how much this was helpful, thank you!
Thank you. No one ever shows where it is in the car.
Glad I was able to help
Thanks for posting. That explains a lot.
Thanks helped me out💯

Mines is a 96 legacy it cut off at lights when I clutch in it bucks on the highway do you think its the fuel pump
That's a very good possibility. Also change your fuel filter that's a cheap part you can try that first.

Yeah thats usually a quick way to get the vehicle to love if needed. Don't count on it though haha. One bump and it shuts off.
My only question was the size of pump. Looks like yours is 2", they come 2" diameter and 1.5". Maybe it doesn't matter, I haven't pulled mine yet.
