@MercedesDieselGuy I believe there is a gas indicator in the same location as the fuel pump that usually goes bad when the gas gauge stops working properly. Anyways if it still works then I guess you don't have to worry about that, but good to know about I suppose should you ever run into that problem.
I had that happen once on my old Saab. You know you can spray starting fluid into the air box or the gas tank and the car will start so at least you can move the car if need be.
Well, the float that gives information to the fuel gauge is part of the fuel pump assembly. But, having changed the fuel pump itself, I have no idea how a failing fuel pump could affect it.
Offhand, no. Thankfully, I haven't had to deal with that problem. The only thing I can think for you to check is front and rear differential oil condition and level.
Need more info. 5-speed or automatic? I'm guessing auto? If so, there's a fuse in the engine compartment that can disable the AWD. Check your owner's manual for more info. Otherwise, I can't imagine AWD not being functional and the car still moving down the road.
Well it couldve been worse. most cars require removal of the gas tank to replace the fuel pump, and thats a real pain. And hey at least you had two other running vehicles!
If I recall correctly, it should be under the dash near the fuse panel. I haven't owned a Subaru in almost a year now, so I'm unable to check on an actual car.
@MercedesDieselGuy you're lucky, that happened on our old '95 legacy wagon somewhere in the low 100k mile range.

No - it's external, and is bolted to the frame rail under the sliding side door. Very easy.
@MercedesDieselGuy oh that's lucky. I think mercedes has it inside the car as well, at least the newer ones do I believe
Still probably too early for that, though. We've had two Subarus go to 300,000 miles plus without the float failing.
@MercedesDieselGuy the fuel pump doesn't affect it. That's just a normal wear & tear item
@MercedesDieselGuy Agreed. Unfortunately after the car went to my grandparents it wasn't very well cared for.

Not that I recall. But, I have a lot of subscriptions
are you a subscriber of "Suspicious0bservers" ??
Does the vanagon require you to remove the gas tank to replace the fuel pump?
We ended up just pushing the car around. Worked well enough until I had the new pump to install.
Your so lucky, we had to remove the entire tank to replace out pump and not because it need replacing but just that its time.

Yowza, That seems really low mileage for that kind of failure.
Does the gas gauge still work on this car?
Can u tell me where the relay is located on my 95 subaru legacy?

Indeed it does. Why do you ask?
