Hi Craig, the Army use the saying in a slightly different way - 'What does practice make? Permanent. Only perfect practice makes perfect!!!'. Another one is - 'Amateurs practice until they get it right and professionals practice until they can't get it wrong!'. It's all about building the muscle memory... Been watching the videos for about 6 months now; love them!!! 🏋🏻🏃🏻💪🏻
Since I started watching your videos, in the last 2 weeks I have joined a box done my fundamentals course and did my first full class tonight! It was tough but "we do not quit"! You and Jaz are a great inspiration and so uplifting! See you in the next.....1!
I don't even train CrossFit -- I'm powerlifting -- but I've watch ur videos for mounts. Tried CrossFit once and almost died, maybe I will try it again someday. Just wanted you to know that you are inspiring people outside CrossFit as well. Keep up the good work, you're awesome! English is not my native language so sorry for any grammar errors; I'm from Sweden.
I just watched this, and my first impression is it that this is a FANTASTIC tutorial! I can't wait to try it. I think my first task is to work on my _single_ unders with my elbows closer to my ribs.
Craig you helped me make a DU breakthrough with this video. I have struggled with them for 6 months and today after watching this I discovered my rope was too long. I did a long chipper with 10 rounds which included 24 DUs in each. I started doing it @ single single double cadence *with a shorter rope*. On the last 3 rounds I decided to go for it and did all 3 rounds unbroken. Most I’ve done unbroken ever. Thank you my friend! WE DON’T QUIT!
Thing that helped me a lot was where I was focusing my gaze. Finding a spot on the ground about 10 ft in front of me and trying to jump in the same spot with feet together. Love your tutorials! I'd watch them with anything. How to eat a grapefruit, how to shop for Sparky's biscuits, etc.
out of all the tutorials i've seen, this is the only one that really stressed the importance of having the right mindset in learning the double unders, and set honest expectations. super frustrating, kept at it for 2 hours straight, finally hit it, found the rhythm, got to 10 counts. thanks!
I would add 1 final tip. make sure to keep your head up and "stare" at a fixed point, like it is about 30 yards away. by doing this you should just be able to see your hands in your peripheral vision. this was absolutely key for me, took me just about 2 years to finally become proficient. good luck and don't ever give up.
This is the 8th video on double unders i've watched in half an hour and this one is hands down the best.! Very clear-cut instructions, great tips and the exercise drills are phuckin fenomenal. Appreciate this, mate
Awesome video mate. Worked a night shift, had a couple of hours sleep, got up and just been trying to nail double unders in my garage for the best part of my day after watching this video. Brilliant feeling hitting my first few double unders in a row. Not quite there yet, but I'll get there. Thanks for the how to vids! keep them coming.
I'm in my third week of CrossFit. Sometimes I don't want to go, but watching you and @obesetobeast keeps me motivated and gets my butt out the door. Thank you!
As a competitive jump roper, this is super cool. We seem to do things very differently, but still great tips!! And also there is a product called speed balls that are super useful, they are handles with a foot or two of rope on them and a wiffle ball on the end. They keep your hands separate and work really well, check them out!
Great advice, most comprehensive video I have seen so far. I have taken this lock down to try CrossFit and I can do the 100kg snatch and other technical lifts but the double unders have me cursing. I won't give up but I have broken two wires so far and I'm not an angry person.
the best drill is the "double hip tap". without a rope, jump up and down like jump roping and each time your jump up tap your hip twice. practice this until you can do it 50+ times in a row without getting out of sync. it should be second nature. then pick up a jump rope and do the same thing, but in stead of tapping your hips, just spin the rope
Great form, Craig! I think one of the keys is to have enough strength in your calves in relation to your body weight to be able to jump that high (for a longer period). Beginners usually lack it.
Top video. These instructional ones were why I first started watching and following your channel. As others have said, you are good at breaking things down and explaining it clearly. Do more like this and less of the editing showcasing. Thanks to you, Jas, your old man and all the crew at the box for smashing out the content consistently- it's cool 🖒💪
Hey craig, i started crossfit few months ago and struggled with the double unders, it was so frustrating..after watching your video, i kinda got the technique right and slowly gettin the hang of it.. i am now at DU SU DU SU DU ryhthym.. hope to get flawless at it soon..thanks to you i persisted with more practice! Keep up with more videos like these!
Such an instructive video ! thanks alot for that, i've been avoiding any workout involving doule unders just because i couldn't figure them out. Could you make more "How To" videos ?
Thank you legends! I was on struggle street with these bad boys & nothing was working until I did your jump & clap your thigh drill to teach my body the pattern. Banged them straight out afterwards 👍🏽 Good on ya
Great video thanks! In case you’re interested in a more catchy quote (3.56) I often say to my students (I’m a violin teacher) it’s not practice makes perfect- it’s practice makes permanent...!
I HAD A RARE PROBLEM: 6 months into CrossFit - always been so frustrated with DU, like everyone else. Finally got out of the “1single-1double under” drill and can string them together. BUT my biggest issue I’ve never seen anyone talk about on TH-cam. I did have good solid core position, jumped perfect from the ball of my foot and had tight elbows and a good wrist movement BUT wasn’t aggressive enough with the flick of my wrist when stinging them together. I realised this when I did an intense WOD and hade som epic music on and did DU to that. I guess I got so excited and pumped that the flick finally became aggressive enough. Woala I got them going!! Also noticed that I used to hold my rope handle to far in, by moving my hand a bit out on the handle I got a better flick. Now I’m just building on my “perfect” foundation and stringing together more and more. Hope someone reads this and can relate and maybe become a better DU-jumper.
this is so informative. really enjoyed this video (I love the vlogs too btw but this style is a great addition). I would really appreciate it you did this kind of video for other exercises/movements. ❤
i practiced double unders every morning every day for a year... from consistent single ... single double single... to finally 140 doubles. I do them specially after the WODs when i'm tired, as they are usually given in combinations with other movements. also from medium weight ropes to lightweight ropes.
It took me 9 months to get these😑 but I definitely got them once I got the rhythm! Great vlog like always! Again come to Az we're nicer then Texas 👍🏼lol
this video is great and I'm definitely trying these tips. my problem is trying to get the same rhythm and sound he had in the video and also turning the rope with one hand, it must be that I'm not flicking the wrists enough. would love some pointers Craig on flicking the wrist or something to get that down bc that's my problem I believe
After a solid 3 months of practice I finally started to get them in the last two weeks (ready for 17.4 maybe). Not sure I agree about the single single double training, I was stuck on single double single double for a long time. I had to stop doing that and go just for doubles to get that rhythm out of my head
Thanks for sharing this! I've seen some of these drills on other TH-cam vids for double unders. Will def practice them! Also heard that using a heavier rope in the beginning might help since it gives you more of a "feedback", what's your thoughts on this?
One thing that really helped me to get more DU in sequence is to slowly accumulate DU in the middle of singles. Like this: 3 SU - 1 DU - 3 SU - 1 DU ... 2 SU - 1 DU - 2 SU - 1 DU ... 1 SU - 1 DU - 1 SU - 1 DU ... And when you finally get 2 DU in a row start trying do to more and more in sequence! Once you get it, it's really fun! I prefer jumping rope than running!
One thing you did not cover is the actual rope itself. I see so many different types advertised, some with swivels where the handle connects, some from metal, others with what seems like rubber or plastic, some with different weights or at least different weights of rope. Where do you start ??
OH my day!! Finally, mate I've been waiting for this video quite a long time, but it's here now!! So thumbs up to you for sharing these amasing tips! And most importantly, your weekly 2017 OPEN WOD's #like4Jas

Maybe you should teach an English class...you're pretty good at it!
Smexifyy not being funny but I'm pretty sure you've got better grammar than me and English is my first language
Smexifyy couldn't agree more! Not a crossfitter but so inspired by Craig and Jas :)
You will pass out way before you die. At least in theory. Good luck😉
I just got my DU about a month ago. You have to relax a little. This move use to keep me from RX-ing my wods. So glad I finally got them.
I just watched this, and my first impression is it that this is a FANTASTIC tutorial! I can't wait to try it. I think my first task is to work on my _single_ unders with my elbows closer to my ribs.

This is the BEST double under tutorial I’ve found yet.

The hip tap helped me too back when I was trying to get it right.
Best video I’ve watched over hundreds! Great great tips!!

First thought in the morning "better search a good length for my rope for today at the gym", open TH-cam and all of the sudden Craig saves the dayyy

This helped me get my first DU in about 10 minutes. Awesome Instruction !
I know this is an old video but you have no idea how much I needed to watch it!!!

And you've got my sub mate. Just finished my training today, and couldn't do any od double unders... Let's try it again after your help!
If you ever come to Colombia, I'd buy you all the bandejas paisas you could eat, just for doing this video. Thank you!
This is an unbelievably helpful video. NOW its time to practice practice and more practice.
Yes, yes, YES - needed this! Thank you x
7 years later and this video still teaching lessons ❤
Perhaps the best drill so far... I will probably watch this video 5-10 more times.
Great video thanks! In case you’re interested in a more catchy quote (3.56) I often say to my students (I’m a violin teacher) it’s not practice makes perfect- it’s practice makes permanent...!

Dude! I did my first double unders all thanks to you! thank you for this video!
i practiced double unders every morning every day for a year... from consistent single ... single double single... to finally 140 doubles. I do them specially after the WODs when i'm tired, as they are usually given in combinations with other movements.

Just bought my rope today, now it's time to practice! How long did it take you to learn it?
This kind of videos help me a lot. I hope i can do DU with this tips, your T2B video help me and now i can do it. Thank you 😊

This was an amazing tutorial Craig 🙏🏼👏🏼
Dude your how to videos are the best
My 2018 goal after 3 years of Crossfit! Get the DU
Best double under teaching video
😀
Thanks for that is was hugely helpful. Just skipping in general I struggle with. I'm going back to the drawing board and starting again.
Ed is a superstar !!!!
Great videos. Hope you dont mind me asking. What skipping rope do you use please?
Is there a link to those handles?
I couldn't find that particular handle on the website.
Thx
Good info!Thanks!.. Perfect is only a concept, ideal is just a word . Hard work, sore and fun are real.
After a solid 3 months of practice I finally started to get them in the last two weeks (ready for 17.4 maybe). quality....who is it that constantly dislike these videos?.....
1000000% with you Jas. It’s just really annoying sometimes 😂😂
This is super helpful! Thanks so much for posting!!!
One thing that really helped me to get more DU in sequence is to slowly accumulate DU in the middle of singles.
Like this:
3 SU - 1 DU - 3 SU - 1 DU ...
Awesome tips, I'm still working at increasing my singles, but I'll defo use the tempo tips for those also! 👍🏻 cheers
Would be great for you to do a “how to at home” series during this lock down period covering different techniques and movements
A double under is it one slow rotation of the wrist then one quick one is that how to do it?
So helpful!! I was waiting for this one!
you took the words right out of my mind
One thing you did not cover is the actual rope itself. I see so many different types advertised, some with swivels where the handle connects, some from metal, others with what seems like rubber or plastic, some with different weights or at least different weights of rope. Where do you start ??
Don't give up is the key.
This was so helpful, great stuff.
Been trying for months still gonna keep trying
Thanks from Thailand
Some great tips, fingers crossed I can master it 😄
I am at the stage where I can do 2 singles and one double but can't seem to move on from there. Any advice please?
which rope to use? there is really a lot of choice
I see you like TCQ... Engine egine number nine on the New York transit line
Great Tutorial.
OH my day!! Finally, mate I've been waiting for this video quite a long time, but it's here now!! So thumbs up to you for sharing these amasing tips! And most importantly, your weekly 2017 OPEN WOD's #like4Jas
I'm practising at the minute! Love the saying 🙌🏻
3:14 That movement reminds me of Jim Carrey playing Ace Ventura, moving like a dolphin.
its not practice which makes perfect its perfect practice which makes perfect. I like that.
What’s the song on in the box at the very start?!?!
Thank you so much for this video!! Can't wait to try this 😀
Proper practice makes perfect
was thinking that you cant make a double under video without making a "flick of the wrisst" reference hahahaha. Dope editing btw.
this video couldnt have come at a better time!
where should i get the band? thanks!
When I get tired...my delts kick in. I also tend to slowly turn counter clockwise...maybe my right calf is just a bit stronger.
Very good video, thank you !!! Subbed 😎😎😎
Love this “perfect practise make perfect” 👍🏽
awesome video bro!
This is a class video!
Practise makes permanent, and perfect practise makes perfect. This was drilled by my soccer coach.
Awesome video!!
Revisiting this to try and get double unders now I'm doing CrossFit
Yes! Thank you! They're so frustrating. I'm the "tucker" lol
Cant wait to try this!
I love these vids.
richey, what do yo do apart from crossfit? what pays gains? ajaj
