Temtem is a game created by Crema and is available on Steam through the Humble Bundle. This game was heavily inspired by games like Pokemon, Digimon, Yo-Kai Watch and other games in the monster collection genre. Some people have called it a Pokemon MMO. Temtem just released on Steam Early Access January 21. This video is of every Temtem. There are 84 Temtem Species in total with more to be released. You can battle and take on 8 Dojos. This game was also a hugely successful Kickstarter.

Not gonna lie, I was cheering for Platypet, 2nd Evo on point, final Evo......trash! How much of hit do they take from not letting them evolve strength wise? I wish they made it to where it was a selection to keep any of the Evo forms and just let the stat boosts take effect!

Definitely my opinion, but I feel like their creatures need some work. Only saw about 4 or 5 creature evolution lines that I thought were interesting.

@@iam_eden I never wanted to collect and evolve every Pokemon, either. I think some of the TemTem designs aren't as strong as the rest, but that's pretty typical with any monster collecting series. I never found Electrode's design as inspired or interesting as Alakazam's, but gen one still has some good Pokemon even if they aren't all my taste.
This series is still new. There'll be some awkwardness as it grows into itself. Everyone's expecting it to be as memorable and noteworthy to them right out the gate as Pokemon is to them now in 2020, decades after it's debut. That's unrealistic and unfair. Give TemTem time and then judge it.
That moment when the only good looking one isn’t a temtem the developers designed but by a fan art of a pokemon starter.
I really like the feeling of the game overall, but most of these creatures need more character, a lot of them feel too bland. Anyway Noxotl looks awesome

Yup. The first 151 were pretty bland, and their concepts were more or less "animal + an element". Some were really cool, or cute, because of their simplicity (like Ditto for example, I love Ditto), but others were just there, like Charizard. It's a Fire lizard, and let's be honest, not the most creative design by any stretch. It looks cool, but isn't really attention-grabbing.
The newer Pokemon are weirder and I understand people disliking them, but at least many of their concepts have never been done before, and grab your attention. I don't know what it is about Pokemon, but they just do a really good job at making each one stand out from one another. I mean, we have like... 8+ Pokemon (not even counting each one in each evolution line) that are based off of monkeys or primates, and they all stand out from one another.
I hope TemTem keeps making more of them, because I'd love to see their design process get refined as they go forward.

I always thought it was unfair to compare the original 151 pokemon since back then Gamefreak were still indecisive of what a pokemon should be exactly. Plus the newer designs are more unique and weird, which gives them more character. I feel comparing this modern game’s creature designs to a game in the 90s is just a bit unfair, but that’s my opinion.
@@bugjams Honestly I wouldn't agree at all. These are just bland with no character and feel like it's trying to be pokemon but can't. You say they aren't attention grabbing, but look at how many of the Gen 1 pokemons are absolute icons that everyone recognizes. If they were forgettable, they WOULD be forgotten. This is speaking as an outsider also who hasn't even play any of the pokemon games. I just know of the series and understand characters that have that special sort of flare and when they can be recognizable. I think Temtem is great in at least most of its design decisions that it's making in order compete with pokemon, EXCEPT the creatures.
Which is..kinda a big problem because the creatures are why you play. It doesn't matter how many better features you have if all your creatures are forgettable. People will keep playing pokemon because they look way better and it doesnt matter how shit it might get. If you think that's not true, just look at how successful Mcdonalds still is despite having absolute garbage quality and similar pricing to other fast food that does their job way better. The branding is what matters the most. And this pastel, extremely soft unity looking character design isn't gonna last. I hope they can make large improvements and get people who understand what makes characters recognizable for future creature design.
All these designs look super inoffensive and...safe, is what I would call them. Lot's of colors that just naturally form together and nothing really striking. No features that pop out tremendously and are focused on like with pokemon. There are tons of pokemon with exaggerated features and great, eye catching color design. The color design with Temtem is extremely..plain.Though I will say some of these could very well be of the quality of Pokemon. For me, the main problem is their eyes. They are too similar. This leads to a lack of personality. The same problem that I had with the digimons

Remember, the game doesn’t officially release for console/PC globally until sometime 2021 (maybe summer-fall). Hopefully there is room for improvement from the early release we got so far
That and because they’re trying to copy Digimon with the placement of two eye shine spots.
Digimon’s is fine because they have some variety and make it work with unique, creative, cool designs and art style.

I didn’t want to be negative going into this but those biped ones made me cringe real bad. Gave me goosebumps even. It’s unfortunate as some of their pre-evolution forms actually look nice but the final biped form just looks like poorly made furry costume (and one of them just sorta looks like a naked dude with spots and pimples, ugh.).
The eyes and the mouths don’t help either...

I think the case with a lot of these is that you expect more from the evolutions but they just end up looking bigger..And more human. And some designs are just unsettling..Like that sparzy guy. Just imagine waking up in the middle of the night to see that thing staring at you

Well actually the reasons why remoraid and octillery don't really make sense is because remoraid was orginally shaped like a gun and octillery was shaped like a tank.
It feels uninspired compared to Pokemon, not that they have bad ideas, it's just that Pokemon has more variety in body type, color, and personality. The majority of temtem end up humanoid which is quite sad and I feel the colors just don't pop out as much compared to the colors found in Pokémon design.

@@juanxsama524 It is, you should go check out the original artist's twitter page, even if Platypet wasn't meant to be used as a fake gen 8 starter. Platypet (originally planned to be called Plattans) was made in march 2018, long before pokemon Let's Go even released.

I really hope TemTem becomes a strong competitor to Pokemon. There's also a lot of great designs here.
That said, overall I feel... they could use more to separate themselves from each other. I have 3 main critiques.
1. The eyes. Nearly all of them have the same "anime-style" eyes. It would help to diversify each monster from the rest if the eyes were more distinct between them. Also, and this is just my opinion, but "anime eyes" are probably the most generic, dull-looking eyes you can put on a monster. I mean nothing against whoever designed these, but one of the reasons any given Pokemon might stand out from the rest are due to them having interesting eyes. Be it Gengar's blood-shot red eyes, Roggenrola's carved-in "eye" (it's actually an ear!), or Goomy's eyes, which are just green dots. Keep in mind not every monster even _needs_ to have eyes. Taking the eyes away can create a sense of mystery, cuteness, or horror, depending on how its used.
2. Lots of floppy... tentacles? I don't know if this is just me, but a lot of them seem to have floppy, flat, tentacle-looking things on them. With some it makes sense, like the squid/octopus-themed ones, but on others, it's just an odd choice to me. It also, again, makes some of them hard to distinguish from others. Take Loali and Kaku, and Gazuma for example. All of them are tiny blobs suspended above the ground, with tentacle-like "flaps" coming from behind or above them. It looks cute, and it's definitely a cool design, but overusing the same design traits might not be the best idea. Consider if each TemTem was a silhouette, would you be able to tell each one apart at a glance? Even if they were in different poses?
3. Why are so many humanoid? Don't get me wrong, some humanoids are fine. But on others it comes off as strange. When you make a humanoid animal, generally speaking, more people will like the design if it looks like an animal standing on two feet, rather than a person in an animal costume, if that makes sense? Platimous is a good (but I wouldn't say perfect) example, because it's hunched over slightly, has more animal-like proportions, and doesn't have an uncanny-looking head or face. Zenoreth and Mushook, on the other hand, look like humans cosplaying as TemTems. Their head shapes aren't very unique and look a bit too human, but not human _enough,_ leaving them looking uncanny and odd. *Vulcrane is just weird.* I just need to say that. Vulcrane looks extremely uncomfortable and I kinda dislike it. It has nearly 1:1 human body proportions and the head _still_ looks like it could be a human with a helmet on. What I'd do is make the arms longer, and larger, maybe even touching the ground. Make it hunched over. Anything to make it look less human and more animal. I need to stress that you _can_ make a humanoid monster and have it look good, but Vulcrane... is just not that. I'm sorry.
There's some real good potential here, and obviously I don't believe they'll change any of the designs, but I do hope they consider feedback going forward. Just like how the first 151 Pokemon were very awkward designs, mainly just "animal + element", I'm hopeful that if the TemTem team keeps making more of these buggers, that their designs will get better as well. _(And before anyone starts a flame war, no, I'm not saying every Pokemon past Gen 1 is amazing or that Gen 1 sucks, I'm saying Gen 1 had unrefined, basic designs. Some of them were charming because of that, but they were more or less what you'd expect. Some newer Pokemon designs fall flat for me, but at least the concepts that are behind a lot of the newer ones are far more creative than when the series first started out. Every generation has its ups and downs, blah blah blah don't yell at me!)_
Trust me, if Yokai Watch couldn't be a competitor to Pokemon, an indie game sure won't

I wouldn't give up so soon. Yokai watch has always been something distinctly different from Pokemon, and people knew that. This one's clearly inspired by Pokemon and already has a huge amount of popularity and visibility, something Yokai watch never really got enough of.
I strongly disagree with you Pokémon has been around for soooo long and they are just now starting to really mess up but I still don’t think these, sorry to say, lack luster designs could beat such a beast like Pokémon

they look too bland, generic and basic. they dont have personality, also the colors are... i dont know... boring. theyr evolutions look more like they just grew up, no surprises there, just change a little
P a c o i have to disagree here. it could be a matter of these characters being new to our eyes, so the unfamiliarity might make them seem basic. the colors on a lot of them are chosen well, even from a color theory perspective, especially since a lot of them use contrasting colors to draw attention to certain areas of the body. there are lots of bright colors; even if i don’t like some of the palettes (so many neon greens...), i really don’t feel like “boring” would be the word to describe them. i’m not a fan of all of these, but bad design doesn’t necessarily mean boring design. however i do agree with what you’re saying with the evolutions to an extent...at least there isn’t an evolution as anticlimactic as voltorb (or something similar).
@@dummydino2 the fact that they're also not based off anything (like how some pokemon is usually based on something in real life ie. Klefki and Garbodor) may contribute as a factor to why it just seems strange to people because they don't have something to associate that monster as in the rea world.
But even with the bad monster designs aside the worst part should be the NPC designs. Ughh they look like low quality Unity 3d models

Like gen 8 or not, just the core fact people were upset with the game is not a good reason to like this one. People saying how they *want* this to rival Pokémon so Pokémon does better, uhh... that is not really good for Temtem. That literally means no one can trillions think of a reason to like the game on its own and the game probably will die in popularity faster then beyblade did.

Like many people here many of these creatures are underwhelming and hard to get attached too. Playing the game that was the most frustrating is that everyone had the same exact Temtem as me and they weren’t even that good (design wise). With Pokemon I usually can find atleast a couple I get attached too and just want to spend all the time in the world to get them to lvl 100. I really hope “season 2” of Temtem creatures have more detail and thought put in to them.
Otherwise the game rocks! And I can’t wait to play more.

I agree that they could put more effort into most of the designs, however, try looking at the first generation of Pokemon. They too look pretty generic, with some exceptions. Along with that, some of these new designs look pretty cool, and the game is still in early release. Give them some time, and maybe, just like Pokémon, they’ll improve. (Before collapsing into a mess, similar to Pokémon.)
So far I haven’t seen a ton that I like the designs of, but there are enough that I like for a full team so I’m still interested in temtem.

Man so many of these look so uninspiring and washed up, it's like they tried really hard to mix Pokemon and Digimon and the result was a really boring imitation. Asides from a few that look rather unique the rest looks straight up they were designed without any inspiration in mind.

Toxitricity, orbeetle, obstagoon, cursola, thievul, dubwool, drednaw, yamper, flapple and appletun, centiskorch, barraskewda, rolycoly, runerigus, copperajah, polteageist, falinks, frosmoth, gropploct, dragapult, not to mention many of the gigantamax forms and galar forms have great designs too.....

Thesmus agree, the game might not be the best, but the new pokemon they introduced were pretty damn solid
While I agree that the designs and colour palette makes some of the temtem blend in with each other, what I think people underestimate is the moving animations. In general I think this game does an excellent job of displaying character through movement. In a lot of other monster collecting games movement is generalized leaving you with a monster that looks very cool and different but sort of moves and behaves like other monsters.

In my opinion, while Temtem’s biggest strength over Pokémon is in its technology, with its nice graphics as well as being a fully functional Pokémon-like MMORPG, where I think Temtem doesn’t succeed in is the world and Temtem themselves. For me, the world of Pokémon is a lot more vast, interesting, and memorable that holds deep with me and many others. Maybe it’s because Temtem is so new and hasn’t had enough time to fully sink in with the public consciousness, but to those who think Temtem will completely outclass Pokémon, all I can say is this. As a game, it has numerous advantages over Pokémon. But as a world of memorable creatures that spawned an entire cultural phenomenon, I think Temtem has a LOOOOOONG way to go before even coming CLOSE to Pokémon.
No disrespect to any passionate Temtem players, I’m just giving my two cents on something that people toss around both ironically and unironically
Temtem's gameplay is much better than Pokémon's tbh. The stamina system is much more relevant to the combat than PPs are, and it gives you a reason to use weaker moves, while in Pokémon there's just no reason to use moves like Ember instead of Flamethrower.
Most battles being double battles is also a strength imo, since its well known that doubles in Pokémon have considerably more strategy than singles.
Its weakest point for me it's the designs, a lot of them are just too safe. I mean, the bird just turns into a bigger bird without even any accessories attached.
Pokémon does have some very bland designs, but at least they always add some detail or change colors here and there, and while a lot of the new designs are very polarizing (like the cup of tea in Sw/Sh), they're at least memorable.

Creature design is very 50/50, some look GREAT like the Crystle line and TOXOLOTL who is now my child who I must protecc. But then you have at least a whole fleet of critters that have the same black dot eyes and a smile which is pretty same-y.
There are gonna be more creatures, and it’s a mmo so there is always the possibility for more new ones to be introduced so I’m not too concerned; but I think it’s important to let the developers know that we’re gonna need more variety and personality. Especially so seeing as they have a noticeable potential to do so! ☺️👍
I hope the gameplay makes up for these designs.

Still gonna play and support Temtem just for competitions sake, but Pokémon is clearly leagues above them in the actual design department. It's not even close.
I think before official release they need to update the color and shading to the whole tem tem. World, tems and char so they dont look too 2d on a paper. Then itll be good.

I like them. I will get this when it’s eventually on Switch because it really looks like a game that would be perfect to just pick up and play for ten minutes and put down. Honestly, a few look like they need work sure. But I definitely think they all fit cohesively into the aesthetic, with designs that all pull from somewhere between every single monster pet collecting game, from Moshi Monsters to Digimon.
A lot of these designs are either boring or just really bad.

To be fair. The household object Pokemon are usually Ghost possessing said objects.

Man, I wanted to get this game but the designs are very polarizing for me atleast.If some one were to tell me if I'd prefer these or the gen 8 mons, I... would honestly prefer gen 8, a lot of these creatures are alright and even kinda cool and cute but for some reason, almost none of them really don't call out to me, and some can look pretty uncomfortable (like the spark dude) with gen 8 theres a lot of pokemon that appeal to me (examples:toxtricity, hatterene, obstagoon, grapploct, drizzile, runerigus, corviknight, etc.).In here the only ones I REALLY like is pigepic and the platypet line (and funny enough, this design was made by someone who wanted to pass it of as a leak for gen 8), so I'm not sure, maybe it's just my bias towards pokemon but I feel this game could be great. I wish the best of luck to the people who are working on this game! And who knows, maybe I'll some this creatures a lot more when I play the game!
NOTE: I'm only comparing the creatures of tem tem and gen 8, not the game themselves.
