I love the message this sends about US Soccer. We sign Emma Hayes on the women's side & we get the best manager available outside of the Klopps, Guardiolas, etc, who were never realistic targets to begin with. This shows proper ambition.

Explain how he's in the same league as Pep or KLopp? This guy has been a dismal failure in Europe, unable to win a meaningful title or even do well in Europa League. Clearly he's struggled to be signed by a top club so he comes to the US for a steady paycheck. He doesn't care for the USMNT. Argentinians only care about Argentina.

Poch hasn't been amazing since leaving Tottenham but everyone has seen how dysfunctional both PSG and Chelsea are as organizations, so there's probably some wiggle room there. However, if you're a USMNT fan, all you could have asked for was a coach who has coached at the highest level, and Pochettino provides just that.

When you say you have the talent, you definitely have a fair number playing in Europe which is a positive, but as a team you’ve not been great. He’ll get a better gauge if where the team and players are at after the upcoming friendlies against fellow CONCACAF nations and New Zealand. If you fail to win all of them he’ll know he has a big job ahead of him before 2026.

Pochettino's style of play requires players to be athletic and hardworking. That's why he had a lot of successes with developing English players and unfortunately not so much with Argentine players. He could be the perfect candidate to replace Southgate but it was not meant to be. On the other hand, I believe that he will be a good appointment for the USA team as American players have similar traits with English players - they are athletic and hardworking.

The difference in coaching acumen is almost going to be breathtaking. Like going from semi-pro to the Dodgers in baseball or like going from DII college to the Celtics in basketball. That said however the squad still has holes all over the pitch. Winning even one knockout stage game would be a huge accomplishment.

The futbol i expect will be similar to other Argentinian managers who have all stolen concepts from Bielsa. I expect a 4-4-2 that's in line with Diego Simeone, Scaloni, Sampoli, Gallardo, as well as Gerardo Martino. Physical, aggressive pressing with measured possession. The futbol is mostly quick transitions, similar to what he did in Tottenham, where fluidity in both offensive and defensive transitions was key. Poch's biggest problem is his teams don't create chances when they dominate possession. That's why he was let go from PSG and Chelsea. Furthermore, our midfielders don't possess the futbol intelligence required to play in his system nor the fitness. Only Weston Mckennie seems competent for that job. Reyna can barely last 30 mins and his body language will need to be amended if he's to play for Poch. Adams innane aggresiveness to compensate for his lack of technical ability has him in perpetual injury mode.
All he has to do is teach our players what Argentinian do best: cheat cunningly, dive, complain, waste time & win.

Yeah because it's the kind of challenge many managers can find attractive. I get the press and what armchair fans like to say to pile on but a lot of very good managers enjoy the challenge of seeing how they can push something forward and know how important it is to leave their comfort zone to build on their experiences. Weird as it might sound.. I really don't think guys like this are afraid of being fired - rather, they more so fear in-action or stagnation & if it fails so be it, but they learn from it (hopefully lol).
