I went into this anime completely blind other than the blurb and that a friend of mine has been really enjoying the manga. I did not regret my choice in the slightest. 2:29 For a bit of context, Ken Takekura was a popular actor during the 60s and 70s, who was kinda the Japanese equivalent of Clint Eastwood. 5:03 The dynamic between these two kids is fantastic.
As someone who watched ep 1 then read some of the manga chapters, this is likely to be up there for anime of the year. Which says something since there are some MAJOR contenders this year. Looking forward to your reactions
@@kenziewatchesstuff I went a few years without watching any anime and then this year watched quite a bit: turns out quite a lot of great stuff happened while I wasn't paying attention!
I've been a huge fan of the manga since a friend convinced me to give it a go, and while I was really nervous when I heard they were adapting it into an anime, just from seeing Eps 1 and 2, it looks like Science Saru are nailing it. I love how it's this insane genre mashup that, on paper, shouldn't work, but it still does, while also giving the story time to breathe a bit so we get those wonderful character moments that make us care about the core cast. It gets more bananas from here on out (pun intended).
It's good that you gave yourself some time to react to DANDADAN!!! and you won't regret it, if they faithfully adapt the anime, then it will be the anime of the year!!! I read the manga and it's completely crazy, super epic.
I have to say that this Anime (I won't comment on Manga to avoid spoilers) is fire. Ken Takakura was a famous Japanese Actor (I don't know yet if you don't know it - I'm posting this before watching your reaction, but I know that many people didn't know this).
@@DeanBarryStuff OK. You're the first person to know this. And one of few people that I know that actually watched Black Rain. I did watch it, but it was long time ago. But if you say it's good then I will re-watch it.
Ken Takakura was the Clint Eastwood of Japan back in the 60s and 70s. Later in his career He made a movie call Mr. Baseball along with Tom Selleck . It was ga good comedy but Takakura pay a ver stoic formal Japanese man vs a very “American” 80s a baseball scout.
@@rafaelrivera9346 IDK if I would say "Clint Eastwood", but I get that this is approximation so people have to use only the most known celebrities from US. Funnily enough I knew about Ken Takakura, from some Japanese movies I've seen. Well before Dan Da Dan started releasing in Manga. Foreign Movie nights, where for 46 weeks in a year every weekend I watched 2 foreign movies. For 10+ years.
I love the dynamic between these two, it feels more like actual people instead of anime characters. Side note, not telling you to change your preferred watching style, but the Dub on this show is elite 10/10.
Seeing Dean without a beard feels weird. Like seeing your dad without a beard.
Feels weird to me too. It’ll be back.
Dan DaDan is a heart beat sound effect I think.
Like your soothing voice as you read the subtitles and describe the craziness of this show…. 😂😂😂

I don't believe in ghosts, but I still wouldn't go anywhere near that tunnel.
Ikr, what if there's a granny that wants to gobble my weenie in there.
She is an asian ghost yokai known for hunting men and protecting young girls
Dandadan in an onomatopoeia from horror movies
The show is wild, loved your reaction to it. you summed it up nicely.
Glad you enjoyed it

Missed them. Thanks for the heads up.
Amazing first episode!
This is going to be a good one!

Yes, he was in Black Rain. A flick I love.
