I live close to Travis AFB. I see C-17's all the time. But nothing like this. This place is on my bucket list. I would love to camp out for a couple of weeks, and see a variety of beautiful aircraft.
Charleston AFB representing! The past year years when there has been a Hurricane on the East Coast, Charleston and Shaw will relocate their aircraft here to Batksdale AFB along with all of Seymour Johnson’s F-15s. There is a public park on the south end of Runway 15 and if you can catch them on the day they are returning to their home base, it is an “Air Show” in itself. Your close enough where the afterburners rattle your bones and you can feel it in your chest when the wave after wave of F-15s depart! And have also been lucky to get some F-35’s from Eglin also. And despite all our Barksdale B-52s, the base is large enough to accommodate all those aircraft and personnel all at the same time.
These also fly from CFB Trenton near where I work. It boggles my mind when I see them, often at low level, not appearing to go particularly fast - I can't understand why something that big, and that slow doesn't just drop out of the sky. Overtime something like that flies over, I turn into a five year old, pointing at the sky in amazement.
Impressive video. I flew the Lockheed C-141B on many low level tactical routes. It was considerably smaller, but it was not this maneuverable as this C-17 is demonstrating. Didn’t fly the C-17, so maybe someone here that has flown both aircraft could comment.
Wow that is bonkers...never realised craft this big did the loop..been on board one of these c-17 at an air show (fairford) the tail section is huge ..such an agile plane for its size.. very well filmed.....
@@shelde8344 The mach loop is located in snowdonia, wales, and best times to go is usually week days. monday to thursday usaly. make sure the weather is in decent conditions otherwise they wont fly low level if visibility is poor. aircraft flying through the loop is random and you never know what to expect. atm it is very quiet i think which is a shame but if you are desperate to go, do it. the scenery there is amazing and makes for some fantastic photos.Good luck!
The C-17A is a very pretty airplane and looks great also. Too bad that I retired before getting to ride on that airplane, but did get to fly on the C-10 cargo airplane and enjoyed it so much.
John Quigley Yeh your right it does remind you of thunderbird 2. Have a look at C17 Brisbane particularly the video of C17 filmed from high rise building.
I'm curious, why do all these aircraft routinely transverse this particular area? Inbound approach for a nearby base? I'm sure it's not for photo ops. Pretty awesome nonetheless. Thanks.
I was surprised at the noises as well. I'm guessing the little squeaks were the noise of the wings and the flying surfaces changing the lift distribution over the wing?
Grew up in Charleston. I remember when fleet was transitioned from C-141 to the C17. Those planes are amazing. the house I grew up in was on the approach path and they always came in low and would throttle down. made a lot of racket I loved it.
That is so surreal, like a massive prehistoric animal floating through a valley! Spare a thought for the person driving a car on that road that goes through that valley, when a massive jet roars above them. I'd need a new pair of pants after that.
Dude!! I can only imagine that you were just hoping to catch a Tornado or a Typhoon and this monstrosity popped through the undercast!! Great 👍🏻 shooting! If I ever visit the U.K., this might very well be the only place I want to go!!
I live on the south end of a base with a whole mess of these things. They shake my house on the regular. It’s pretty wild in the daylight, in the dark, not so much.
@@UKAviationMovies i used to go barmouth as a kid.. and couple of times saw jet fighters buzzing about.. would love to see them now as a grown up after lockdown

@@keithfreitas2983 Actually the planes fly higher than 50 feet for a cargo drop. After the cargo exits the plane, the main chutes aren’t fully inflated until a few seconds before impact on the drop zone. Depending on the drop weight, number of chutes, and atmospheric factors, the rate of fall for those few seconds under full canopy is about 30 feet per second. During the drop sequence, the altitudes discussed in my previous paragraph are a matter of physics. During the low level ingress to the drop sequence and egress after drop completion, the aircraft may fly higher or lower than the drop altitude depending on combat tactics. Years ago when I was a navigator in C-141s it was common for our crews to fly extremely low over the desert terrain, pop up to drop altitude, then descend to low level for terrain masking.
Low level flight in a training situation (which this is) is essential for a possible real world scenario where high level airspace is denied or dangerous. Radar centers can earlier detect incoming aircraft at higher altitudes and greater distances in order to alert defensive missile launch batteries to attack the aircraft.

Phewww,
... es kommt direkt auf mich zu!
Wann ist man schon mit einer C17 buchstäblich auf Augenhöhe! Klasse!
Theres just something about C-17s flying low that no matter how many times i see it, my brain still thinks it looks unnatural. Lol beautiful flybys
I agree bud. Even when watching my own video it still baffles me how they did it 😂

Thanks for the post. I'd love to check out Barksdale
The C-17 is the only Airframe that pilot could fly, seeing as no other airplane could possibly carry his massive balls.
Or hers. . . . Wait . . .
A C-5 could carry them BUT I don't think a C-5 could make it through there... Or could it ???
Very true
One of my favorite plane from the military
Bloody brilliant. That's it, I'm moving to North Wales
That vapor condensating behind the wing is so awesome. Love seeing that
WOW!!!! What a fantastic sight that must have been seeing that hugh C-17 coming your way for the loop. Awesome catch!!!!
Indeed it was Howard. The crew made it look easy but it was an amazing sight.
Absolutely amazing! Believe me, the crew enjoyed it just as much as you did filming it. Thank you for posting!!

Holy smokes... He put that big bird on the deck!!! Wow... Great stuff, man!
The C-17 is a truly amazing aircraft. Don't let it's size fool you. It can do things aircraft half it's size wish they could.
Totally. An astonishing aircraft, I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes as is came out of the first valley towards us 😳😳😳😳

Thanks bud. Definitely different to see this guy at low level! :D
I flew on one from Iraq to Kuwait. It doesn't seem that big when you're packed like sardines
Simply beautiful. If I could have gotten a flight deck ride, you couldn't beat the smile off my face.
I've been taking pics in the loop for 30 years and seen some stuff go through, that's up there with the best of them, great video👏👏👏

Great video. Why are the C-17s practicing in this environment? They won't ever fly so low in such terrain, will they?
Yes they do. They even have terrain mapping radar. They don't have stealth so they rely on terrain to evade radar with they need to.
