    This is by far the best advice I have heard for consumers. If your tuner can’t answer the basic questions they shouldn’t be your tuner. When you are properly tuning bikes everyday the answers and conversations come natural because it’s all you know.

      Yep. After seeing how much money I lost on performance parts in the past, going forward my bikes might get comfort upgrades; seat, suspension, bars, etc. I can actually feel those across the entire throttle range. Don't care for sound (YMMV) and my skills will never get to the stock bikes capabilities. So, I'll trust the factory engineers for ECM settings and leave it at that.

    • @2wheeldynoworks
      @2wheeldynoworks  หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Why? We have flashed literally thousands of them here with nothing but amazing results and happy riders.
      This isn't meant to dissuade someone from wanting to modify their vehicle. It's meant to educate the public on the potential woes of just trusting someone based on their appearance or self promoting claims. People simply need to do their own research before drinking the koolaid.
      For example, feel free to hop on over to any owner/rider group for either generation of the FZ/MT-10 platform, and you will find us as the recommended tuner for these bikes by virtually everyone there.

      I've had my 2019 tuned by 2wdw and it's the best, Mode 1 is smoothed out power delivery best for aggressive track/twisty riding with less engine braking and mode 2 is the standard all the power off the rip wheelie happy mode with full engine braking. The throttle differences their tunes make on every bike I've owned is enormous and best for daily riding/track, etc.

    In a few months we are planning to bring our 2021 Rocket 3 for dyno tuning for another land speed racing run at Bonneville after we find another exhaust system . We will be running wide open for a couple miles. The density of altitude typically is between 6000 and 7800 feet.
    Last year we got 152 mph with the bike at Bonneville, I'm not confident the tune on this bike is correct either.

    A long time ago, my old dyno tuner made a special graph for me. Not only did he give me the end result of the 100%, but he went through the trouble of giving me the before and after of the bike at just 50% throttle. It....was ridiculous. The bike was a complete mess before hand, with AFR's upwards of 18% (!) and entirely screwed every where. The 'after' map looked like I was comparing two completely different bikes. He always mentioned that part throttle and low and mid range tuning was often more important than the solo 100% run.

    Reminds me of when I put a PC5 and one of the canned maps on my 2010 z1000. It was noticeably slower, ran wayyy too rich. You could smell it. (And some a hole on the z1000 forum wanted me banned saying it’s impossible to smell a difference between lean and rich 😂) When I put what would basically be the wrong map on it based on my exhaust set up it got a little better. But honestly the only thing that fixed it was ripping the pc5 out and having Ivan (from Ivan’s performance) tune it. Huge difference, with a full system the bike pulls hard all the way to the top. Before you could really tell you were in over rev, now it’ll charge straight to the limiter, feels like the motor has another 1k rpm to give. Couldn’t be happier

  • @dalewarren9885

    I chose to install a TTS Mastertune for my HD 124"M8 Sportglide. It takes a bit of study to learn how to use it but I have been able to get it dialled in pretty quick in the rpm range I ride at. Not so easy getting those higher TPS and rpm settings done but its possible for it to learn as you gradually get there. Here in New Zealand, there aren't that many dyno tuners , I dont know that I would trust any to get a good tune. I dont care what power a dyno says it makes, being rideable and fuel eficient is more important. Good to know that you do the job properly.

    whole can o’ worms opened up here. First of all- I really appreciate the length you go to demonstrate these industry-wide problems. And your attention to detail (or simply doing a thorough, comprehensive tune;) is admirable. It’s obvious you care about doing good work and providing valuable service to your customers.
    That said- from my perspective as a reasonably intelligent person and PNW track rider/racer… it’s been exhausting to try to navigate the vendor / tune world over the past 4 years racing. Trying to know who to trust, discern who knows best for a specific topic, and build rapport with. Most shit-talking each other or at least casting doubt on other’s abilities. If I just paid a guy $$$ for ( ) service and turn around to hear how he’s the worst and doesn’t know shit… how is that supposed to make me feel that anyone is trust-worthy? (This is the exact scenario that happened to me about the former Twins Cup RS 660 that I picked up last year).
    My point is that I have detailed conversations with shop owners, mechanics, suspension folks, etc. but I’m always going to be at the mercy of their integrity (or lack there of), because I am not an expert!
    If I see some “tuner” called… PUNISHERTÜN or something, with misspelled words in their ad, etc. that’s one thing, but I don’t have the bandwidth to vet each shop, especially when it’s one with an established reputation. This shit is tiresome!
    Rant over- I just wanted to acknowledge the work you do, but also give feedback about the problem with “doing your own research”. I’m in the medical field, and there’s a reason for evidence-based practice and peer-reviewed journal articles. In the meantime- I just picked up a ‘20 KTM 1290 Superduke that will need some attention once I replace the giant OEM cat/header. Email forthcoming. Cheers!

      @2wheeldynoworks  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I get it. Many of the "old guard" racing and trackside vendors in the PNW have been around so long that they have invariably all screwed each other over at some point. They're all just fighting for their own patch of dirt, so to speak, and they'll happily slander anyone in the process just to promote themselves and make a buck. We refuse to call out other tuners by name anymore on social media simply to stay above that cesspool.
      It's probably the single biggest reason why you won't ever find us providing our services to the public, trackside. It's truly a waste of our time and money, and it's just too much damn drama at a race weekend. For the most part, the fastest guys in the PNW still have their bikes tuned by us (the proof is in the many repeat lap and club records in the past decade), and that's good enough for us as far as club involvement is concerned.
      We happily sponsor fun events every season to promote the sport as a whole, like 2Fast's Superpole series, but you won't find our wallet opening up to sponsor WMRRA/OMRRA directly again anytime soon unless things change pretty dramatically. Our money is FAR better spent working with, and advertising our services with, partners at the MotoAmerica level. There's still drama there obviously, but it's a fraction of what occurs at the club level, and it actually allows us to advance our skillset through working with the top guys truly at the cutting edge of motorcycle performance in this country.

    You seem like the type of fella who can answer this question. When most new ECM's incorporate closed-loop (using the o2 sensor for ECM fuel adjustments) fuel mapping during constant throttle, how to you manage to alter the tune during closed loop? Those o2 sensor bypass plugs don't seem to be as prevalent as they used to be, now with o2 sensors having heaters that are fed by the ECM and trigger faults if the circuit is open.

    • @2wheeldynoworks
      @2wheeldynoworks  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That depends entirely on the specific year/model.
      On many, the target tables can be modified. On some, you just run it open loop and rely on the other feedback sensors to adjust for atmospheric conditions (barometric pressure sensor, intake temperature sensor, etc).

      When mapping is built properly for a specific intake/exhaust combination on a specific year/model bike, there's no true need for that to occur unless you're racing at an incredibly high level.
      Properly built ECU mapping for a specific setup is just as accurate as the OEM mapping is for the stock setup (accurate within 2-3% of perfect).

    • @exothermal.sprocket

      Just the fact Chris does "pops and bangs" tunes as a total customer desired options, zero caution whatsoever, does this bother your conscience? How much more evidence do people need to be clued in on. Do you think Chris tunes all the turbo drag bikes? He fiddles around in a laptop at the strip, yes. He isn't much of a street rider, doesn't like corners, doesn't go to a race course, doesn't data log customer bikes. He's had videos where he's got multiple ecu's on the desk waiting for flashes. Sorry sonny, the R&D necessary to get quality numbers plugged into all the tables doesn't work that way. Drag strips are wide open throttle zones. Part throttle and hooking a launch without spinning or bogging are just time-robbing enemies to slay on your way to wide open throttle. You don't have to "waste your time" doing all the hard R&D like 2wdw has described to get an engine to work well at WOT. But that's less than 1% of the entire riding population.

    • @aintnodisco7127

      @@exothermal.sprocket I don't know Moore from Adam. But "pops and bangs" tunes are an aesthetic choice. Some people like them and in and of themselves, they're not detrimental. Even APR had such a tune for the Golf R. But sure, you're right in that choosing any person to muck around in your ECU is a lot like picking a back alley surgeon based on "I heard this guy is good" and hoping for the best. 2wdw presents a good method. But even then, sending in an ECU and getting it flashed based on tuning results from an example that is not the bike that the ECU came from requires a leap of faith that settings and conditions are so similar that the tune is completely valid. That is, you still take your chances regardless.
