They sell rear control arm spacers to move the rear wheels back, you could also use adjustable rear control arms out of a wrx and have it adjusted during a wheel alignment
Ignore if mentioned: Take a dremel or hacksaw to those brake line brackets. Remove the retaing clip, Cut them in the middle on the outside end, twist one up>one down and slide out the line. Do the reverse on the new ones (once you're 100% you're keeping them), install the line, bend 'em back and reinstall the clip...they're secure.
I see from previous comment replies the tires are 215/70 R16 It would be great to know all the other wheel details as the previous guy on this thread asks. Critical to prevent/minimize rub.

Cool video 👍💯👍I have a 86 gl wagon and a 99 legacy outback that was wrecked in the front end i wonder if I can drop the motor from the 99 into the 86 ;) I doubt it but it would be cool 👍
What else did you have to change after lifting it 3 inches.. and what side control arm spacer would you wanna add to a 3in lift like this .. Did you have spacer in the front I'm about to lift a 2004 Subaru legacy 35th anniversary.. It's also getting headed full exhaust and a intake.. any other recommendations on getting it running a bit better too helps
Hey man I know this might not still be fresh in your head but I'm definitely about to do this. I just got a 99 outback with a bent a** front shock. Instead of getting original replacements I'm going with the Forester upgrade. I've heard to use 08 XT shocks and I've also heard to use any 04+ shocks. Could you help me clear up which year and model you used? I'm going to order the same ones from RockAuto. Also did you use a spacer in front and back or just in the back? Which size spacer in front and what size did you use in back? Tire size noted and trailing arm spacer noted. This is the last bit of info I'm needing to get this done. Thanks for your help
The outbacks comes stock taller than the legacy, so I’m not sure which ones would actually lift it. I would definitely look into just getting a stock replacement, then putting spacers on it.
That's where I'm starting. The 2008 Forester XT shocks are coming today. I ordered the 2" trailing arm spacer but I'm still thinking the back may look saggy. It's looking like I'll have to install it all then install the spacers after I see how much lower the back sits
@@AndysAutoCarePlus did u guys end up taking the tops off of the front strut assembly to remove the short bolts? Or were you able to pound them out without taking the strut assembly apart?
Very cool comparison with the forester struts sitting beside the originals. Thanks for the vid. I always heard you cant do more than 2" on 1st generation subaru? Hope i didnt miss anything only watched this part.
@AndysAutoCarePlus thanks for replies. Can't remember if it was your video or another that showed the rear at an angle that differed from stock vertical position making it clear how the rear wouldn't be raised as much. Maybe my b
Do you happen to know the difference between your 96 and a 01 legacy, I'd like to lift mine 1.5" +/- but can't find anything on the 98-02 legacy's. not really wheeling it but live in snow country
Well done with the video! I do have one question though, I'm thinking about getting a 1995 Impreza sedan with the 2.2L and I want you're opinion if it would be decent enough for a budget reliable overlanding car or if i should keep looking. Thanks!
Love it!!! Did the same exact lift on my 99 legacy with forester struts and 2” trailing arm spacer. Running the same size tires (215/70/R16)...did you end up using any wheel spacer to help with the front wheel rub on turns?? Its hitting a bracket that doesnt look grindable
Thanks for the video! For which model of 2004 Forester is your lift kit? because there is few sub-models for different engines i think. I was checking kayaba lift kits, so i want to make sure that it fits.
Looks great. I can't wait to get mine to that point. After you got it up and put some miles on it, did you find that you needed spacers throughout the body and running gear?
Hi! I just got my son the exact same car and we want to do the same thing. Is there any way you can send me a parts list? We are in Baja Mexico so it’s hard to get parts here!
Nice… I have a 99 legacy outback that I want to lift a little bit. Looks great
I have basically the same lift setup on my legacy I bought some wheel spacers help a lot also did some cutting and trimming I'm running 215s
What spacers did you use to move the rear arms? I have a ‘97 that I’m lifting and this is a perfect height!

Yes I added the spacers as well.

I've heard you can fix the castor issue with swapping the forester trailing arm as well
love this upgrade project. what size lift did you order and from where? thanks
It’s been a little while now, this is who I went with after using Subaru, Forrester struts awdadventure.com
What size are the new tires? What width, brand and backspace are the wheels? We are doing a similar build with a 1998 postal vehicle! Thanks!
I see from previous comment replies the tires are 215/70 R16

I'm wondering if I can fit 29x10x15s after I finish this lift
A deep 1/2” drive socket on concrete or a brick would be a much better receiving cup for a stud than a crank balancer on an MDF surface.
Don’t try to make cave man tools sound bad. It got the job done, no harm to the parts or tools, who cares!

SICK..!!! How much alignment difference...?
Where did you purchase the struts been looking for some for mine can’t find decent ones?
What’s your tire size ?

I am looking to do this, Can you tell me what to search for on rock auto?
What spacers did you use to move the arms back? I’m lifting a 97 as well. This is a perfect height!
I used ADF trailing arm spacers

You get roughly 2 inches with putting Subaru Forrester struts on plus I ended up putting some 1 inch spacers. Never had an issue.
@AndysAutoCarePlus to confirm: it lifts a bit more on the front correct? So it looks like doing a quarter mile pull sitting parked?
Not really unless you load up the back. I don’t have this car anymore but when I did it sat super level, even with the rooftop tent on the back.
@AndysAutoCarePlus thanks for replies.

I got a 92, same parts and process?

Hey bro have a 97 legacy lsi doing the same thing, what brand or what are those spacers you put on the top hats?
What brand of tires are you running? They look quite aggressive but still an all season?

Those are fantastic
I wanna do the same with a 1995. What tire size?
Same for a 95 subaru liberty? Same body shape etc
Good question I’m not sure though

I never needed to.

There all the same struts other then maybe the xt use it from the xs
Never impact the nut off the strut because you it could losen the nut inside the strut....

what tire size you using? br from iceland
where did u buy the shocks
Rock auto
Any updates on this build? 👀
I ended up selling this and now working on a f250 overlander.

Biggest and easiest thing is 2004 Subaru Forester struts.
what size are the tires??
215/70r16
