  • In sharing player runs of cards, the process is easy for post war era stars. Pre-war, a full run is most likely not possible. In this video I share some Caramel, Tobacco, Gum, and Strip card era cards of Eddie Collins. The discussion started as my friend Jason mentioned wanting to add a Cracker Jack Collins card. That inspired some research and sharing in this video to review some of the many cards available of this iconic star. I love the quirky opc variations. One of my all time favorite cards is the 1985 opc Rickey Henderson listed as a Yankee and wearing an A’s uniform. I’m a Rickey fan and die hard Yankee fan, so it’s the perfect storm! Great video. Thank you.

    Great Eddie Collins cards. Collins retired as a player after the 1930 season and coached the Athletics for two years post-retirement before being hired as vice president and general manager of the Red Sox by Tom Yawkey, who was an old friend from prep school. He retired from that job after 1947 at 60 due to declining health. He was the GM when Jackie Robinson had a tryout for the Red Sox and didn't get signed.

    Thank you so much for the shout out Aaron! The E106 was the other option I was looking at as well lol! I think it may be a little more affordable than the Cracker Jack and I may save my Cracker Jack purchase for Ray Schalk.

    Collins doesn’t get enough love in the hobby. You could make an argument he was the best 2nd baseman of all time. A total winner! Good stuff!

      @@vintageoddballcards6103 absolutely agree! Hornsby had a crazy career so he is my number one. Collins should really be regarded in a much higher esteem than he is currently. The price to player ratio for his cards is just unbelievable too!

    Great Collins collection. That T205 Mouth Open is fantastic, and that W516 also stood out. I have not really explored strip cards to this point because I think the images are just too crude for what I'm looking for, but the W516s as a whole are interesting. Lots to learn about 'em though (five different versions?). Thanks for sharing.

      @jpcards Thank you, my friend! I agree that strip cards have a wide range from pretty awesome to almost offensive. I feel like I almost like the T205 set each year that passes. It's definitely a fun twist to have 2 Collins cards in the set.

    Nice, love me some Eddie Collins cards. A's and White Sox, doesn't get much better in my fandom. The all time leader of sacrifice hits. Crazy price to player stats ratio for him.
    However seems to be for the whole 2b position outside the goat Rogers which you could argue is cheap too. Eddie, Nap, Morgan, Gehringer, Carew, Frisch.
    Nap gets some card value love but I include him as he gets less love than he used to and when you deep dive into the numbers I'd take him as second best 2b ever and he doesn't get thrown into that conversation as much as Eddie. He led in more things and his 1901 triple crown year was bananas.
    Maybe idea for two future videos, Nap cards, and the undervalued cards of the 2b position. Pitchers cards are regularly talked about being cheap, 2b needs some more love.

      @Valuevintagecards-Aaron  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @OC-MC_Joe good call! Definitely agree that the balance of value is way off for 2b. Possibly because it is a low HR position? Definitely a ton of legendary players that should be regarded as inner circle HOF stars.

    You know you just blew my mind on the 1984 Seavers... I never realized they changed the team name and color on the O-Pee-Chee, that's too cool. I've seen how they mention the trade but don't recall any other changing the lettering color or team name. Wild! Now I have to check my 1987 OPC Kevin Mitchell... Awesome Collins cards, I'd like to own the closest thing to his "rc" for a 3000 hit club rc run. Great stuff Aaron!

      @blixcards thank you, my friend! I love those little details and variances. Man, a Collins rookie card would be epic. I will have to research what that would even be. Cobb and Anson will be really tough.

      @@Valuevintagecards-Aaron Oh yes... We'd be talking about things having to fall into place miraculously for me to complete most of my quests. Even just completing a 1960's or 1970's HOF base rc run is daunting enough! But the search is half the fun . Now if I came into millions of dollars, I'd just have somebody document that journey - because in that case - it's ON! Ahhh, we can dream... I could have bought a Cobb T206 in May 2023 for around 2k that looked nice enough and also whiffed on a 1955 Clemente PSA 6 at 5k that was crazy nice. Almost no chance to finish any projects but it's fun to have goals, attainable or not.
