My first time doing block work I was 15yrs old and I learned how to setup the blocks, leveling bricks, concrete work of all kinds. I remember setting up the bricks because if they weren't setup correctly they were kicked over and I was running to grab another one. I learned quick, because the 100+ degree heat will wear you out quick. I did it for 2 summers and I was good after that. Hat off to anybody who works in the elements everyday. Keep up the good video's.
"Just due to the nature of where we live, that's how it works...gravity" - David O'dell I love watching these great videos showing the awesome craftsmanship, along with the occasional science lesson from the boss.
Nice! I’ve been laying between 5-6 hundred a day of these (except they’re 16 not 18) in the past 3 weeks. Different work method here in AZ but it’s nice to see other block layers do a good job.
Odell, I'd like to see the actual filling of the bond beam and the verticals. I understood ur narration but I'd still like to see the work done. Great vid as usual
So far, this is the best DIY guide I've seen. Thanks Mr. Odell for sharing. By the way, you didn't show the 2nd vertical beam installed and tied to the horizontal bond beam. How far below did you bury your vertical? Thanks.
Last block job I did, the masons I hired got the tan motor from the block work on the freshly finished driveway with sand finish. Was so mad because of the stains. Put down protection!!!
Great video, if you are working this fast what prevents the previous lines of bricks from going out of level as you tap the ones on top? What prevents the bottom lines from moving?
@@utubewatcher360 And I should listen to you why? I have family and friends who are in masonry, admittedly I am not, and I may not know every aspect of working with concrete but Odell does good work. Can you prove me wrong with your splendid concrete work? Go troll someone else!
Absolutely beautiful. I want to go my property the same but I have seen some properties with horrible block work. I just don’t trust anyone around here to do it right like you all. So I’m going to do it myself. I have a few questions if you get time to answer. I will be doing a wall about 120’ long but will have a 16’ sliding gate. Should I continue the foundation monolithic the whole 130 foot. Or should I do two separate and leave the gate area open? Also if you could go over how you do your 90 degree turns in the wall. I noticed where the gate was you built that little wall right up next to the main wall. But for the pool pump area you did it differently. I know it’s a lot to ask and you are obviously really busy. So I appreciate all that you show us
one of the finishes we used to do on blocks a bit dodgy using only one plank to walk on..better two for safety...was the bucket handle...we used an old half round bucket handle bent into an 'S' shape amd rubbed along the joint....I suppose you could use a piece of 1/2 inch copper pipe...
Regarding the cold joint. Eventually that will be the break point after a long time. The earth got movement. Would it be better to reinforced that point with more rebars? Perhaps continue the block causes over 60 feet. I trust your experience and wish to hear your comment. Also what happened if i have 2 feet split or drop floor level over the neighbor's land? What is the rule of thumb over the maximum height for such block fencing? I assumed your fence height say 7 feet + 2 feet split level. Too high for such foundation to handle the load? Please advice. Tq. Appreciate that.
Every time someone does a video there is a group of people who have a doctorate in safety that will pick the video apart. Thanks for sharing the video it's very informative.
Mr Odell, I'm building a 4' tall, L-shaped wall to hide my trash cans. The short part of the L will be 8 feet long and the long part will be 10' long. Can you tell me how wide and deep a concrete footer I should prepare? I'm using 8x16x8 block in Central TX. I'm going DIY because I can't find a contractor to handle such a small job. Your helpful video have given me the confidence to give it a shot. Thank you sir. BTW...my daughters name is Layla....and I miss the OG intro music too!
Do you have any after pics or video of the neighbor side wall once complete . Or how does someone go about filling the less that one inch gap between the existing concrete slab and the new existing wall . Say around 15:55 . Awesome job btw
Love watching your videos! You and your crews do amazing work! The rain might have been nature's way of trying to get the block cutter into compliance with OSHA's crystalline silica standard... haha
Do I need a footing on a three high slump block wall with flat cap along the sidewalk just for stopping sprinkler run off water? I'm thinking of just laying down a wider bond beam block just under grade with steel and fill the cells with concrete. It's non retaining wall and permit is not required in my city.
Hi David. Wonderful work by you and the team! Just a quick question for clarification: at the very beginning of the job, you cut out a section of the concrete slab at the back yard which were then patched up at the end of this video, at 15:35. How come that much of the slab had to be removed? there was a much narrower footing down the rest of the line.
Odell Complete Concrete Gotchya, I have to do it to extend my driveway so would be awesome if you did. I’ve seen almost everyone one of your videos so I didn’t think you had.
@@OdellCompleteConcrete Thanks for the timely response. I've found GATORBAR only has a #3 product to replace 1/2 " steel rebar. Are you familiar with other composite rebar that offers more than 1 diameter?
