  • The seventies was a decade of catastrophic disaster. The oxygen tanks on board Apollo 13 ruptured, almost stranding the crew in space; the Unit 2 reactor of the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant partially melted down; and the entire Swiss watch industry was destroyed by new technology coming out of Japan. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom, because as far as watches are concerned at least, it was also the beginning of a new era in many respects, a story captured by the Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date.

Although not everyone seems to appreciate the presentation style, I love that this channel understands the power of story. Long after the specs of a watch are forgotten, it is the story that endures and inspires. Even when I'm not interested in a given watch being reviewed, the great narrative draws me in and I learn something in the process about a piece that would have never gotten my attention. Well done.

Same, the macro shots on the movement also showed quite a bit of unevenness. Still better than the average Rolex and nearly on par with the overrated PP 70s budget model that shall not be named. A Grand Seiko quality controller would gently recommend seppuku though.

    • @machikr
      @machikr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I find a speck in front of “5” at 8:47 as well. East German quality, I guess. In East Asia, this would be considered unacceptable for a $500 watch let alone two more digits added to it.

It's a good day when Watchfinder releases a new video.
It's so clean. The printing is crisp. The dial, cut so finely, and the underside of the seconds hand, so well finished you could flip it upside down and it'd still look gorgeous.

I personally dislike categorizing watches by comparing them to overhyped models like every watch with an integrated bracelet is "a royal oak / nautilus from manufacturer x/y.

Having been a GP for some 30+ years, for me a watch is essential, if only to check a pulse rate (although chronographs are quite useful to record timing intervals eg when administering IV drugs, such as Morphine to patients with acute pain - allows me to keep track of how long since last dose given)
I had a very basic black strap Swatch as a junior doc, but I was quite pleased when one of my patients spotted my current favourite [1] Aquatico Blue Angel watch last week. He’s a fan of mechanical movements so the Seiko NH35 scored high.
I have a few patients with Rolex...... but somehow several haven’t even sized the strap so it sits loosely!
And one with a Omega 300 wave dial. My favourite.
[1] Other ones which get wrist time, Aquatico Bronze SeaStar with green dial and bezel, Citizen Promaster BN0150-28E (half price, mint condition from Amazon) and a trio of Casio Duro......black, blue and gold.
So, nothing expensive at all, but if i could, I’d get an Omega Seamaster 300 first.

Great video and commentary as usual ! Many thanks ! I tried the GO in Geneva but felt the pushers had a bad actuation feeling for a high end column wheel movement. Have a feature request though. A beautiful ugly little duck from Omega: the Constellation Manhattan Hybrid chronograph ref. 1542.40 from the late nineties. A sleek little mecaquartz chronograph powered by a little known but high end and well decorated movement, the Piguet/Omega 1270, which allows for a thin and perfectly proportioned case and an equaly impressive dial layout. At about 2k in NOS condition, it's maybe the best kept secret in the highly popular integrated bracelet market.

I love this watch with the blue dial, looks silly on the rubber strap you can get it on though.

No, there were absolutely no food shortages in eastern germany in 1989. Why do you say this?

I'm new to the watch world (credit due almost exclusively to this channel occupying my shut-down time), and my first proper watch arrived right before the New Year. A mid-70s Speedmaster TV Dial. I love these wacky squared-off designs and would love to see even more featured here. Especially my Speedmaster, so I actually know what I'm wearing and enjoying so immensely :)

    I love it, but a little surprised it’s a 2017 model that’s shown and forsale. Not a 70’s watch.

That’s right. The model range is known as the Senator 70s, the decade being the decade from which the watch’s design cues come from.
