    Thanks for this video and the others as well. I am making training videos for my employer and I want to be sure that my coworkers are not hearing bad audio. This upgrade from a USB mic will be worth it once all the settings are correct.

    Thank you for the video but a special comment for others that don't understand microphones. The video shows that phantom power is ON. That is wrong and not normal for this microphone as it does not want and does not need phantom power. So my guess is there is a Cloudlifter or similar inline preamp being used here. As a note, the microphone is gain hungry and will perform a lot better with a cloudlifter or similar inline preamp. Excellent products. Good combination. Just use the cloudlifter as well and you will be a lot happier. I note that other people in the comment stream also picked up the same point.

    Does the use of Phantom Power on the Procaster Mic have any effect on its sound? I thought the Procaster was a dynamic mic that did not require Phantom Power.

    I’m having the same issue I had with my podtrak p4 & the sm7b when I’m on a call/ audio app like clubhouse room the audio is only picking up from the phone and not the mic. Do you have any advice on that?

  • @Zoofluencer
    @Zoofluencer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm currently using the rode procaster in combination with a UR12 audio interface. Unfortunately I have to turn the gain all the way up and still speak right into the mic. It picks up quite a bit of breathing noises etc. I'm just using it for TH-cam so don't need all these different Mic inputs, I only use it with one mic that's it. Do you have any suggestions on what to get for this mic to work right?

    • @jcstrabo
      @jcstrabo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The UR12 has not very much gain and that what it has is getting pretty noisy (-120 dbA, so about twice as noisy as the Rodecaster at -125 dbA or four times as loud as class-leading interfaces like the Motu M2 or SSL 2 at -130 dbA). So, since the Procaster needs a lot of gain I would look into an inline amp like the Cloudlifter or Fethead. Or a preamp like the dbx286s (which also gives you a noise gate, de-esser, compressor) or a dedicated pre amp. Or a audio interface with better preamps, like the Motu, SSL or the Behringer UMC202HD/MC204HD, which are cheap and have at -128 dbA a very low noise floor, beating this 550 € beast here for example in this department).
      Breaths can be regulated with a noise gate (but when you speak and breath it can't remove it of course). Breathing on mic is a technique you can learn. The Procaster is a dynamic mic, which, while being robust and somewhat better at not picking up so much background noise, also needs you to get a lot nearer than a condenser microphone - ideally about a fist away compared to the 2-3 fists a condenser mic can work at (being further away introduces more room noise though, so you better have a quiet, treated studio room for a condenser).

    • @JohnHighman
      @JohnHighman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use an inline preamp and you will be happier. Uses a cloudlifter or fethead

      No, I have one and a go xlr. I suggested virtual inputs/outputs to rode as having ability to remap the faders to certain applications within windows would be awesome. They can do this with a firmware/software update. I use stream deck with voice meeter to do all this and works perfect. Go xlr is nice and does the audio routing and if you’re wanting something simple, the go xlr mini may be something to check out.

    I get a hum or hiss when I talk with similar settings turned on with the rodecaster. Its like noise floor or extra noise. Noise gate works fine. I have tried turning it down, barely can hear me, turn it up thats when i hear the hum. I have tried it on pod mic and sm7b mics. Any advice on how to mitigate that?

    • @KyleWHarris

    I love how as you are explaining how problematic the gate can be...that I can 100% hear how awful the gate makes your audio sound with the noise pumping in and out between phrasing. Even the music cant cover it. Great video though. Thank you
