Bro, just imagine this battle for one minute. The ultimate conflict between good and evil. Palpatine sitting there watching, knowing that whoever wins will be his ultimate pawn in the universe. Luke fights not only Vader physically, but palpatine mentally too. The amount of conviction to doing what he considers right and just, and holding onto faith and hope that his father will come around in the end.
Luke as a character is the ultimate icon of hope.

A Jedi's Fury is the crescendo of the star wars saga both narratively and musically. So many arcs complete in this very moment. Anakin finally discovering both of his children; Luke facing his final challenge and becoming a Jedi; Vader's defeat and Anakin's redemption; Luke finally rejecting the temptation of the darkside, something his father failed; a son becoming greater than his father.

Luke was more the person that Anakin both wanted and envisioned himself to be. In the end, it wasn't power that had made Luke the person that he is but more so both compassion and love; the things Anakin needed during his time of crisis during the prequel trilogy. The Jedi failed Anakin and didn't view him as a person, more so as a tool. Though Anakin and Padme's feelings were genuine, the former kept his insecurities bottled and in that sense; he had failed himself. Luke, inheriting Anakin's heroism but also Padme's kind nature ultimately saved his father from Darth Vader; the darkness lurking within Anakin Skywalker.

Some fun trivia for any Star Wars Fan: During the Production of The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, in order for the big twist to not leak from the set, a fake line George Lucas used during the official Shooting Script contained a different plot twist: "Obi-Wan killed your father." Whilst the real line was voiced after by James Earl Jones, and added in during Post Production. Funny how a Matthew Santoro vid about 50 Star Wars facts can give you a "The More You Know" feeling, and give you some trivia to tell to your friends or random people on the internet one day.

Thank you for taking time to revisit this song. Your rendition is well done.
This part of the film was always particularly impactful for me due to the strenuous relationship I've had with my father. Growing up, he lost himself to addiction and turmoil in losing his father/my grandfather in a car accident. He was never the same but pushed himself too far. He eventually blew his back out on the job while doing electrician work. He had life threatening surgery and made it through, but had metal rods placed in his back and had to wear a brace. He was never the same person, lashing out at people and treating my mom and us all terribly.
Until one day, to my mom's credit, she divorced him and took us away from the pain he caused. He was never physically abusive, but hurled insults at us like questioning why I had ever been born.
I became hateful for a time to him, but eventually gave into my love for him. He was a good man before his life got hard. I am still a Jedi, like my father before me.
It's his nickname for me, actually. He's older and a little cooky now due to drug abuse, but he shows his love in his own way. I get a text with a Bible verse from him daily and he knows what damage he caused. He's apologized in his own way, making amends in several avenues and actions he has since taken to help the family. And I still think back to the good father I briefly had a chance to know, the one that took care of my mom and bought a house for us all to live in.
He told me once that I helped him, that when I was four and questioned why he "needed to take bad medicine," he looked inward and something sparked.
I'm always going to hold this theme and this movie as the symbolic representation of that fight against hate. The love we had still won. And still wins.
I had a choice to be vengeful. But I wanted to save him. I hope when he passes, God will see that he was no Sith.
The Jedi within could never be driven from him fully.

When I watched ROTJ for the first time (having grown up on the PT first) I could not help but uncontrollably sob when Vader and Luke fought for the last time. John Williams' score for this scene climaxed in such an emotional way as Luke shouted "Never!" in defiance of Vader threatening to take and turn Leia to the Dark Side, and as he pushed back against his father in unrelenting fury. The choir at this point is incredibly haunting, and has that cliche ghost sound to it, and it ties in perfectly with what is happening beyond what our eyes see on the screen. Anakin is making a break for it, and he is actively reaching out to his son, hoping that he can break free of the cage of Vader. The ghostly sounds tell of the weight of all the innocents he killed, from the Jedi and the younglings in the Temple, to the rebels he has been battling and his own troops. Vader is beginning to waver, the dead demand justice and Luke is fighting him with the same courage as Anakin, the same courage that he previously broke. But it also warns us of Luke's potential fall to the Dark Side. In this climactic moment, Luke is striking at Vader in anger, not something unknown to Jedi but it is nonetheless a connection to the Dark Side. When Luke finally brings Vader down and cuts off his hand, the Emperor laughs and descends to meet the child he think will be his next puppet. Palpatine thinks this will go down just as it did before, when he brought Anakin down low and made him his vassal, and he hopes that Luke will strike down his father so as to seal a covenant with the Dark Side. But Luke looks at Vader, his father and sees the electronics of his hand, and he looks at his own hand. Luke then realizes who he is in the battle of Light and Dark, and he surrenders his weapon, fashioned after his first mentor's own lightsaber. Rather that letting himself fall to the Dark Side, Luke surrenders himself to the Light, like old Ben did. In casting his weapon away, he forfeits his option to kill either Vader or Palpatine, demonstrating that he is willing to sacrifice himself to save his father and let the Light Side take over. In the end, before he could be made a martyr, Vader looks on his dying son and surrenders to Anakin. Now free, Anakin saves his son and finishes his mission; bringing balance to the Force (thanks, Disney).
Mr. Kim, you have shed all these things in your cover of Williams' score. I have felt all of those emotions again as if I were watching that scene for the first time. From the ghostly choir to the defiant trumpets, you have made this score nearly perfect. Thank you, as always.

The emotional climax of the entire saga for me. I've spent my entire life trying to chase the high I got watching this scene for the first time, hearing this music.
Luke Skywalker is one of my favorite fictional characters, ever. He's the perfect hero, but not in a cheesy, corny, overdone way: he just wants to save the people that are closest to him and learn more about his family. That's not just relatable, it's also admirable. And it applies to Vader. The two might be mortal enemies, but Luke spent every waking moment of ROTJ trying to figure out how to save his father. He knew that to do this, he'd have to beat him. So he started training.
This scene is the culmination of EVERYTHING. Not only does Luke defeat Vader (something that, really, no one else can say) but he SAVED him.

The success of the Clone Wars TV show only confirms for me that if the Prequel trilogy had been stretched into six movies, and given Anakin the development time and characterization necessary to make his sudden shift to the Dark Side believable, the Prequels would be regarded as the Original Trilogy's peers in storytelling, if not outright superior. Since I heard the original soundtrack of the scene between Vader and Luke about ten years ago I fell in love with it and hoped and extended and remastered version of it would surface in TH-cam as it usually happens with underrated tracks.
Every year, maybe a couple of times I revisited the OG soundtrack to see if an extended version was realeased but to no avail. But, today was the first time in 2020 I remembered the track (maybe impulsed by the Mandalorian hype), founding to my surprise that, indeed, a new version was released this year without me noticing.

Not that my father was ever a sith lord lol, but pain and darkness have clouded the bond between us. I can sense the good in him though, and I can see us finding some kind peace in the end.

The force doesn't work like that; if you embrace the dark in any permanent sense, you are destined to fall to the dark side. Obviously every Jedi feels the pull of the dark and many briefly give in, but they all reject it at the end of the day. The Dark Side is corrupting in nature and you cannot preserve a moral compass while using it. This is why Anakin became a complete monster even though he initially just wanted to save Padme. And no, Qui Gon was not a grey jedi. He just disobeyed the council because he wasn't so strict and dogmatic.

Almost sounds like the Jedi are humming as Anakin is released from his cold steel coffin, and Luke watching his spirit freed. It makes me imagine that the Empire has finally fallen, and it was over. Han and Leia and Ben together as a family with Luke training Jedi younglings, and Obi-Wan with Yoda and Anakin by his side watching. Rex lies in his death bed, the clone finally resting after years of warfare, wanting to see his brothers again. Young Rey with her parents, happy to be together.
Finally, Luke felt his body ache, his age finally got to him. He was at his bed, his eyes closed shut, his blonde hair and white beard were moved by even a gust of wind, his skin was pale, he had passed. Han hugged Leia as the old couple knew Luke's time was approaching. Both had tears dripping from their faces, but were happy he had the life. Even Ben and Rey would miss him, sadly not even their daughter would see her uncle Luke, as they had both the best time of their lives. Jade saw her husband being covered in a white blanket, she let out tears and cried. Including the rest of the world. The Jedi and Younglings, the Republic, and even the Empire all saw, they saw Luke lit on fire by Leia. His body turned to ashes, flying in the air. The crowd cried, the soldiers of once rebel fighters raised their weapons and fired. Luke's son and daughter watch their father finally leave the world. Years later the Jedi would grow until the temple was abandoned, as it was at the bottom of the newly made Jedi Temple. Led by Luke's eldest Son. The Galaxy was once again, in peace...
But no one is really gone...
In the far corners of the galaxy, a cackle from a robed man with white pale skin smiled as he knew... the Sith will always comeback...
