Now THAT is a great way to travel to Japan!! Love that you didn't just stick to the "western" menu and went on the Tour of Japan. So cool they provided a "map" of the offerings as I would have no clue what most of that was. Seaweed gelatin? I'd try it once for sure....but normally pass on that stuff. Great review as always!! I loved going to japan back in 2018. My dad grew up in japan and unfortunately, we had to fly back for the funeral of my dad's uncle but the service and quality of everything onboard jal were amazing. We flew business class and I must say I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. Arguably one of my favorite flights regardless of the extremely long flight (flew from Los Angeles).

I Played in Japan for 3 years back in the 90s. Even then their coach has better service than some of the business class here in America. FYI, My wife was a senior flight attendant for Singapore airlines and was surprised how there's is a lack of service on some short first class flights.

In 2014 I flew in a Qantas B747 into Narita. Was a wonderful trip; amazing experience all the bags coming onto the carousel oriented with the handles facing you; took a coach to Yokohama and the terminal staff all bowed when the bus departed; complete strangers would come up to me and offer a cold bottle of water during the heatwave. Wonderful culture and people there.

Another excellent travel video. Thank you for such a reassuring video that first class is alive and well in JAL. Sadly, all first class is in the USA is nothing more than "Coach Plus" where first class is filled with people getting upgraded and as a result the airlines reacts accordingly meaning first class is devalued. I took my ailing Dad across the US in first class and it was not that great. Coach passengers regularly used the first class restroom talking and shutting the restroom door and standing in the aisles waiting to use the facility. JAL is the new true first class and I am happy you got to experience it.

  • @jerolvilladolid

London to Tokyo via Asia instead of north america?! Thats certainly the best way to travel! You will fly across some top tourist destinations where you can see scenic views in the cabin window such as Ukraine's beautiful and historic Donbas region, the wonderful mountains around Tehran, and the old silk road passes around Afghanistan. If you're lucky, only if youre lucky, you may even make a brief pass along the Taiwan straights and get first hand views of Taiwan and China's latest fighter jets running around your aircraft. Isnt all that exciting?!

    • @johniii8147

Korean Air is definitely not "underrated" Very mediore. Always has been. But they often have good fares sometime for premium travel with the connection so sometimes it's worth it. But never expect market leading products or service.

The reason for that lounge being closed may be just due to not having enough staff to run it and supply food and stuff. Not sure how much of a problem that still is. Unemployment in the US is pretty much back down to normal.

My TIPS for nice TRIPS: Try the Overnight Sleeper Train from Munich to Rome. Its such a nice feeling to wake up in a typical italian landscape and to approach rome. I also tried the Overnight Sleeper Train from Venice to Munich, its also such a nice feeling to wake up in the German Alps! I used to use these trains 2 times, 1 year ago and right now, today (from Venice to Munich). The view approaching Venice is also so beautiful!

13:26 If you want a real classic long haul, check out the united flight from SFO to SYD. I remember my travel day as an 11 year old kid from PDX to SFO to SYD. Felt like the longest day of my life! With preboarding and delays on the tarmack due to the unpredictable weather in the bay area, I was sitting in my economy plus seat alongside my family for a little less than 17 hours, we timed it. Check it out one day if you have not already (:

One thing I love to do of late is listen out for the JAL44 London to Tokyo flight that passes over my home in the Scottish Highlands at around 730 every evening. It used to fly east from London over Ukraine and Russia and on down to Japan, but since the war, it now heads north over Scotland, Iceland, Greenland and over the pole. As it goes over, I select it on my flight tracker, check on its progress around bedtime (it's usually over Greenland by then) and then again in the morning. By this time, it is northeast of Hokkaido and about 3 hours from Tokyo. At around 1030, I can switch the flight tracker to pilot view and watch it come in over Tokyo Bay and touch down at Haneda International Airport and taxi to the gate.
Madness, I know. But it seems to add a scale to the earth that is easy to relate to and helps me see the world in a slightly different way. And it's a lot better than what's on the TV these days.
