People were quite happy to elect him to the European Parliament, because the vast majority does not understand how the EU works (as the Brexit vote has proven) and so they thought that "it does not matter". Farage is to journalism what Johnson is to politics - an entertaining character who has wrongly been given credibility because he has a skill for public speaking. Too few people actually look under the surface of what he's saying and prefer to buy into his 'blame everyone else' populism. I found Farages ireverence to the EU quite beguiling..when he cosied up to Trump I was beyond disgusted.
