- I remember seeing this Animated History of Poland video for the first time almost two years ago and I really liked it. The quality of the images is superb and I was even surprised to have felt emotional when I saw it. As you guys know by now I am not Polish but I guess having Polish family and being so closed to Polish people made me feel a little bit like I was part of it some how, some way.
In this video I am reacting to this amazing short film and I'd like to ask you to comment whatever you feel like (keep it clean and respectful though!) If I said something dumb or made a mistake, PRZYKRO MI!

So Mieszko the first was actually not a king. He was a duke. The first king of Poland was Bolesław Chrobry.
Guy throwing money at pesants symbolizes how higest tier of Szlachta - Magnates were more caring about their own personal wealth than people and coutry. That corruption was one of reasons that lead to partitons.

Polish pilots - Divisions 303 and 304 of RAF - was most sucessful allied units durring Battle of Britain.
Also if you look closer in 1945 - they replace portrait of Hitler with one of Stalin.

True. Mieszko I was first historical ruler of Poland, but he was prince of Poland. He united many tribes, by word or sword (he continued his father and grandfather politic propably). But he got no king crown. His son, Bolesław Chrobry (Chrobry is archaic Odważny, Dzielny, the Brave) got it, short before own death in 1025 AD.
Also, Mieszko bring christianity. There was no chance in middleaged Europe to be accepted as a European, civilised country and not being some kind of christianity. But officialy christianity touched only elites. Simple people stayed politeistic even if there was no right to pagan temples anymore. It took time to wipe out old believes (some still survived in folk village traditions, mixing christianity and old believes).
Also, the fragment with a lot of battles with knights in white, with black cross on cloaks: one of dukes in Poland, Kazimierz Mazowiecki, rulling in eastern part of Poland had problems with pagan Balt tribes close to his borders. They were raiding his lands for cows and resources. So he got an idea he will bring to Poland, here the Teutonic Knights Order, bored after cruciades, to get rid of that "pagan bugs". And this started some next hundreds of years battling with Teutons, who were agresive not only for pagan tribes. Even when 1410 at fields of Grunwald/Tanenberg was huge Polish-Lituanian win against Teutonics, it wasn't pure end of problems.

The first part of the 19th century wasn't about organic work. The man playing the piano was Chopin and the writer was the most important Polish poet - Adam Mickiewicz. It was time when the artists and uprisiners had to ran away mostly to France. ,,Healing hearts" and giving hope was a big part of Polish literature back then.
People born in the 4th dacade of 19th century were those who started the positivism time in Poland and organic work was part of their plan.

1700-1800 when you talk about the big jump and brutal scenes - it's different uprisings Polish people had to try to regain independence (all failed)
Yes, we were cut on 2 (between Germany/Prussia and Russia) and later on 3 (those 2 before + Austria-Hungary). Germans and Russians tried hard to get rid of everything what is from Polish culture and heritage. Polish people were looking for help in Napoleon Bonaparte's person. Finaly, we got our country officialy back with end of I World War.
I'm sure your wife can help you identify some events.
For example - the ship being built is to show the founding of Gdynia as a port which was so needed at the time.
About the pilots - I believe you're thinking of the Battle for England in WWII.

2:13 A small correction: Mieszko I was the first Polish prince and lived from 945 to 992. The film shows the coronation of his son Boleslaw I as the first King of Poland.

Also, an interesting fact, the true beginning of WWII was marked by the Third Reich bombing the radio station in Gliwice (now Poland, then Germany) to make Poland look like the aggressor and initiate Blitzkrieg :)

Also, when you mention the underground army, I'm not sure if you're referring to Powstanie warszawskie or not, I seem to recall the video you mentioned, that was also during WWII not WWI :)
First king of poland was been Chrobry, Mieszko was been only lord. So first poland coronation was been in 1000.
In 1000 was symbolic one, from Otto III, young but powerful emperor of Germany. He put his crown on Bolesław's head, during emperor's pilgrimage to Gniezno, to grave of saint Wojciech/Adalbert. But propably it was more the symbol of friendship between those 2 rulers, not real king coronation. The real/official one was in 1025.

Finally what I've been waiting for. Great reaction, but I don't know if it wouldn't have been even better without getting ready. However, this animation is complicated so I can understand why you prepared. The next reaction I would like to see on IPN Unconquered or Sabaton-Uprising and 40:1.

Hi, I just wanted to say that that was not crowning of Mieszko I, it was Bolesław Chrobry who got crowned to be a king of Poland in 1000 r. He got crowned by Otton III. Sorry to be a prick, really. . But anyway it is a very cool video, and it's awesome that you're talking about it. If I notice anything else that is not entirely correct I'll edit my comment

Bolesław crowning in 1025, no 1000.
@@kandarayun yeah but the symbolic crowning took place during Zjazd Gnieźnieński when Otto III put his crown on Bolesław's head. However you're right that the official crowning took place in 1025

You missed the Teutonic Knights in 1300-1400. They were the ones we won the Battle of Grunwald against. As well as the Battle of Warsaw in 1920, also called "Miracle by Wisła". It's called one of the most important battles in history, since it stopped communist Russia form going further West.
But generally speaking, it's a great video and you shouldn't be sorry for the research. It's tiring to see videos of people watching this and knowing nothing about what is happening. So, yeah. I'm glad :)

5:26 It's no one in particular but the style is called "Sarmatian Dress". Sarmatians being a romanticized horse people like the Scythians that the polish nobles would claim descent from. So it had a very 'eastern' or asian/Turk style of clothing and facial hair. Much different from contemporary European style wearing hosiery and big powdered wigs in that same era. The only person it 'might' look like is Pan Zagloba from Potop, the book and movies.
So Mieszko I was a prince and the actual first king was Boleslaw Chrobry coronated in 1025 :)
1700-1800 I don't think he's throwing coins at people, these are probably bits of bread😉 I think this a representation of so called "Polska pańszczyźniana" which was abolished in the 19th century. Please type the entry "Serfdom in Poland" in Wikipedia, this would give you some insight.🙂 PS. Those could be coins as well, if it's representation of "pańszczyzna"...🤔

You've made a few mistakes there but no problem:
These three dates where you say that Poland is booming out is quite an oposite because the Poland was erased from maps for 123 years up to 1918 when after WWI we finally were back after being devided by three nations: Russia, Germany and Austria-Hungary. Those were very dark times for Poles (There were few rebelions - trying to get back the independence but they failed) If you want you can try to read "Syzyfowe prace" in whatever language you want. It will give you a lot of information about these times. The Polish Underground State was created in WWII. Very nice of you trying to explain it :)

Emperor Otto III, ruler of German Holy Roman Empire made a pilgrimage to st. Wojciech tomb, one of first martyr of christianity in our country. During this event Otto III symbolically crowned polish prince Bolesław with his tiara, thus recognize him as a ally of german nation. Bolesław was officialy crowned 25 years later, as the very first of polish kings. Unfortunately the same year he died.
Mieszko I was the first historically aknowledged ruler of Poland, a prince who declared christianization of Poland beginning from the year 966.

Great videos 👏🏻 If You are ever interested in Polish history I would advise learning about our pagan culture and how so much of it still exists and existed even though we were technically a christian country. It is honestly a very beautiful topic and I think you could do it in a very interesting way

A lot of still living insurgents claims that this movie really showing how Warsaw Uprising looks like. This is very important part of Polish history at WWII. You should see this film. It is on Netflix now

Try to find sth about Arkady Fidler and his book "Dywizjon 303". I know it only in Polish language, but if you try to find out about polish pilots who fought against Germans forces over the UK you will suprised. I remember, Mr Churchll said sth about Polish pilots who was taken place in the WWII. Greetings from Poland

You have rights, this animation is good, but much better is "Unconquared", about Polish history made by Polish Memory Institut. It's only since WW II, but mamy more precisious.

i don't know if somebody mention this, but guys throwing a coins, was mention to a poor uprising i think. We had a moment in our history when poor people were fighting against rich. This was awful. Cutting riches in half with a saw, dress up rich kids with a strwa and then burn them. It was all about killing the riches, i don't say it was ok or not ok but it was brutal as well.
Mieszko was a prince he converted Poland to christianity but havnt been crowned it was his son Boleslaw Chrobry who was first king of Poland.. few mistakes in story..and its important to say that Oświecim Auschwitz was created by Germans during war for primary Polish,but they started with Jewish,Russians,Romanians and soldiers captured during war..on other side Stalin, Russia created Gulags on Siberia, many died.. they also murder many polish high officers in Katyn , Miednoje...and many other in Poland, whose graves are not found yet..

You know a lot but i gotta say, there are sooo many more details you missed. Like this naval ship firing. That's schleswig holstein and it's infamous 1st salvo at the free city-state of Gdańsk. The ship came to the shoreline pretending to be on some diplomatic mission or some other n a-zi BS. THIS was the de facto start of the WWII.

The insanity of World War I, with the Russian Empire collapsed, followed by the defeat of the German and Austrian empires, led to the rebirth of the Polish Republic.
My great grandparents left Poland during the Partition.
Great grandpap lived where the Russians ruled. My grandmother's parents were from around Krakow.

Pilots you were talking about were pilots of 303 polish squadron in R.A.F. They were the best in terms of shooting down enemy planes and not loosing own machines and pilots. No other squadron can be compared to them. Without them, battle of england would be lost, and 3rd Reich would be able to invade England.

Opulent, complacent, thinking themselves kings of the world, defying and rebelling against any kind of political, judiciary or economic reforms, because they might take some of their privileges away.
I think you have rights, this guy is member of the smallest and the most powerful socjalgroup in Poland history, it's call Magnateria. Thanks to them money they controle most od Poland politics. Unfortunetly they did't though about country and took care only about they own busness. Many od them was corupted by Rusia and Prusy.

I know this movie and i HATE it because it's super-chaotic. That's basically History of Poland movie for people who already know history of Poland.
I prefer this one. This one is in similar aesthetic style, but at least has some minimal educational value. You can understand what's going on:
