  • I think Gordak 952 is a great product. But as engineer, I must add a power off switch.
Video about how to take it apart: • How to take apart Gord...
"There are different ways to kill the fleas!" ...the following video is about one of the infinite ways to add a power off switch keeping the cool down function. I though about a more sophisticated electronics design. But thinking about to make a video for you guys, I must keep it "simple and easy" for the beginner ones.
Remember no equipment manufacturer will not pay you for any damage in house or business because a fire. They went for production cost savings. But I will do the most convenient changes for myself.
After engineering designs any equipment, there should be a TEST engineer who will find out any problem and perform the debugging. After them, there should be a New Product Introduction engineer, NPI, who will later become in the Product engineer, and he will have to make the modifications after clients complained. I already saw in Internet forums, people complaining because several brands of SMD rework soldering stations keeps on.
If you liked the video or if it was worthy to you, don't forget to give a LIKE. You can also join the Channel for more interesting videos about electronics workshop.
    Thanks by watching it! :-)

I have the same exact one and mine also stays on for about 3 minutes to cool off the heat element, it cools off the heat gun to make the element inside last longer. If you bypass this feature you will have to change the element more often. I don't advise anyone to buy the soldering station because the air coming out of the heat gun is very low, even on maximum you can barely feel it.😢

Ok so some people that don't know /why/ the power stays on or don't watch the whole video - may think its a good/simple solution to just pull the power out or put a switch on the mains power lead. PLEASE beware: The power is on to make certain the heating element in the hot air gun cools down safely before the blower fan stops! If cutting power whithout proper cooldown from hot, the heater element may have shorter life span, burn out/break, nurn your hands or worst case be a dangerous fire hazard. So PLEASE, for your safety - follow the whole instructions, or at least MAKE SURE the hot air heater element is properly cooled down before removing/cutting mains power to the unit.

In my Hakko, when you turn off the unit the pump keeps running (but heat turns off) to cool the heating element. This will extend the life of the heating element. Pump runs for about 1 minute, I don't mind, then stops.

+davecc0000 Hi! Yes. Mine is on too until it cools down. But the pump used to stay ON with a voltage linkage. It is the reason I did a system to turn it off, keeping its original design of cooling down at the end. Then it really turns OFF after it. ;-)

    Hello:
What is the integrated code of the 20-pin Microcontrollers on the Class 952 digital card (U1 and U2)? The IC circuit is burned and I do not know the code.
    Thanks.

Hello, okay, I have a machine just like this one and I have a big problem it keeps giving an S-E error I already changed the heat gun and the error persists I already changed the regulators and the triac regulator as well as the potentiometers and the photo couplers I don't know what else to do would you have a tip?

The pump stops automatically when the hot air is cooled down to 50 degrees (Celsius). Any modification to stop the machine is nonsense and it will lead to malfunction. There is no "Power ON problem" ! I own a Gordak 952, so I know very well what I'm talking about.

I own too, But I have the same problem. I turn it on and the temperature goes up, The pump also works. but when I try to turn it off it keeps pumping the air and the temperature does not go down and it keeps turning on.

@@kasirbarati1440 Well, in this case I believe we are talking about a malfunction.

I have the same desoldering station, when I insert the plug into the socket, the temperature starts to rise until it reaches 700 degrees, with both switches off, maybe it's a relay that doesn't activate? help me tnx

Hi my hot air gun overheats i checked triac 1 was shorted buts its for air pump. After reading up i changed lm358 n moc 3041 (as i read shorted phototriac causes full power) n its still over heats. I even bought new hot air gun bcos old one internal glass holder broke n its still over heat. Its a 852d+
    Can u advice?

Hi. I wanna do the same thing for my Gordak 952 as you did. But in my area, I find OMRON MY2, not OMRON LY2, Can I do the same thing as you did with OMRON MY2?
note: I think it should work.

I know that this is an old video, but I don't understand exactly what he's talking about and I wasn't going to watch the entire video.
I have an SMD workstation much like that one.
And if he's talking about, how after using the hot air gun and when turning it off, the little fan in the gun (pen really) keeps running for a while,
*THIS IS NORMAL AND IS A SAFETY FEATURE!*
If that's what he's referring to, I highly suggest DO NOT DEFEAT THIS FEATURE.
The entire point of it, is that when you are done, the heating element is still super hot.
The little fan stays on until the heating coil cools down.
It does this so that the heat of the element won't melt the plastic handle and/or cause a fire.
However, if this is not what he's referring to, then..... NEVERRRR MINNNNDDDD!
    👍😁👍

hi i have the following problem. When the station is switched on the pump starts to work weekly switched on but the knob is in the off position the display does not light up and the running time is rascal (1-2sec running) at sometime (10 - 20sec without even turning on the hot wind beforehand)

Hi! I did the transformation because the pomp is always on. If there is a leak in the circuit, the TRIAC increases the voltage in the pomp turning it on. (That´s the vibration we hear). Other issue I found was with small switch for the IRON didn't light the display, and I changed it for its replacement and the problem was solved. (I think for future services it would be good to keep the optocouple, triac, capacitor and resistors as spare parts. They are very standard use, and easy to get even from Arduino kits supplier, who aren't specialized in electronic components.

hello bob...my issue with my smd rework station is that the air flow from the blower is so weak....i opened up the blower and it is clean inside and the diaphragms do not have a tear in them...even if i directly connect the blower to the mains air is very weak...can i replace the blower with another blower? what blower do you recommend? by the way we have the same blower/compressor/air pump but mine is a aeolus 906c...a cheap chinese smd rework station.

Hi Bob, thanks for the video. I have the same soldering station and I will make your mode as soon as I find the relays. Can you tell me how to adjust the soldering iron display to show the actual temp on the tip? Now it's off. If the tip temp is 222°C the display shows 250. I downloaded the schematic and I think it must be VR3 or VR4 to adjust, but I'm not sure... Thank you. :)

Hi! The pump can be bad. BUT!!!! ...more chances are the TRIAC or the electronics components around it are bad. Go from the switch itself to a heat testing it. Remember the switch, the optocoupler or the triac are the components who deals with power. I saw cases where the potentiometer had a broken soldering too. So, it is not about to ask what can be, becuase it can be anything. Only the one who has the unit can find what is wrong, with a plan and a DMM on hand. :-)

Hi! In the right way it turns off when it cools to 55C. Remember to reduce the Air to less than 50% or it will stay ON. Check if reduccin the Air, works.
If it is closing immediatly, then you will have to repeat step by step the video until you find out what did you do different in the procedure.

    • @bob.kalpon1398
      @bob.kalpon1398  8 ปีที่แล้ว

It is not detecting the thermocouple. (The themperature sensor). Check again step by step all the cables and procedure, inspect the connectors they are well placed, inspect the printed circuit board that there is not any broken solder. Also if you placed a used relay, make sure it close well all its contacts without resistance. You will find the problem soon. :-)

Hi! SE = Sensor Error. Thermocuople is open. If you made the conversion, it could be defective switch too. Must soldering iron "dies" by open sensor or melted plastics in first damage order. ...followed by open heater or defective TRIAC in the control unit. (Open wire can always be a chance).

    Hi
    Bob,
Happy New Year and congratulations for the video.
I just bought the exact same model and when I start it, the Heat L.E.D stays on until the heating element reaches the correct temperature. After it reaches the correct temperature, the Heat L.E.D is going off intermittently and the heating element is glowing intermittently as well.
Is this how it should operate or it has a problem?
You can see here exactly what I mean th-cam.com/video/bpGxBgVPW3M/w-d-xo.html
    Thanks
