The reason we find sanding and pressure washing so interesting to watch is that half of us wish we were the ones doing it and the other half thank God you’re the one doing it.
Great video George remember “helping” Dad sand and anti foul the westerly centaur when dried out on shore ham mud, probably took mum a week to wash the clothes😊
Very informative, as always. I had no idea what a scrubbing grid was but now I know! Sort of like how wooden sailing warships would be beached so the crew could clean the copper sheathing on the bottom of the ship.
Yes the pressure washing is quite pleasing. If did a full osmosis treatment (gel peel, dry, relaminate, fill/fair, barrier coat) on this boat two years ago and it was lovely to see that after two years in the water she is still A1 perfect under water!
What a great resource these videos are. Andy's Boatworks is also good, but I find this much better, with more results. Working on these beautiful Contessa 32s helps too. Shame there aren't any around Australia -if anybody would like to sail one here id be happy to take it off your hands!.
I’m about to tackle the teak on my Drascombe cruiser. How do you clean and prepare the service and what do you use to protect the teak please. ATB Mike #StayCornish😬
Hi George. Lovely informative video, please keep up the good work. Can you please let me know the acid used. I have used brick cleaner in the past on a darglow 2 blade. Cheers. Laurie.
Thank you, brick acid works fine, the stuff unused here is a little stronger but you need to be super careful not to get it in yourself or breather fumes so I don’t tell folks what it is. Brick acid safer!
Perfect timing, George. Thank you for the demo on servicing the propeller. Can you tell us what the acid is that you used to clean it, or is it your own (trade secret) concoction?
I have to clean similar featherstream prop plus shaft on my new boat for first time tomorrow. Is this just brick (hydrochloric) acid being used here, or some special concoction? I heard mention of wallpaper paste and acid mix to get it to stay put. Interested to know. Work smarter not harder!
Guilty! Yes, I now find I much prefer the glorious pressure washing to glorious sanding. Do you have to pay for the scrubbing grid or is that part of your membership? Very interesting video. Thanks.
Thanks, I did wonder if it would be as popular. Scrub grid is free to use for members of the club so it makes it a very cheap bottom clean (if you have the time to do it).
Beautiful boat!. Iv recently taken an interest in sailing after a weekend away learning to sail little lazers and I'm hooked. I'd love to see you do a video on a beginners guide to sailing, covering navigation, practical skills and purchasing you first sail boat. Question. Is 5k enough to purchase a reasonable first boat? Keep up the great work 👍🏼
Hi, yes there are plenty of smaller older boats around for 5k or less, perfect stater boats. It won’t be the latest and greatest but perfect for stating out and if you add a few dings and scratches well it’s and old boat so no one is going to worry too much. There are lots of channels. With vids as you have requested so I don’t currently have any plans for “stating sailing” vids but maybe some time in the future, who knows…
Do you know what antifoul was used on the waterline ? Looks like it was doing it’s job keeping the growth off … Great video, always wondered how a grid was used !!
No, very little space to fit one on a co32 but with the prop in the aperture there is a Skeg that seems to stop a lot of stuff getting caught on the prop.

😂 you may be right 👍

Feels like the pressure washing would make a great TH-cam Short!
Great idea. I’m not very good at thinking about shorts. Better at Longform content.
Living in Sweden, I would be happy if my boat would be that clean after 5 months

Yep, same sort of thing as careening a warship in the old days but we keep the boat upright.
Bottom cleaning can be very satisfying. This was particularly satisfying since the bottom paint is in such nice condition. :)

Always enjoy your videos…..what kind of acid do you use to clean the surface of the prop? Best regards
49 55' N 8 10'W ain't even the Isles of Scilly. Thank you for this.
49 55’n 6 19’w is what is printed, to be fair I have not checked but assume it’s correct.
@@RefitandSail that makes more sense - guess I need a larger computer screen. Thanks again
Nice, thanks for this new video.😊
Great video George. Very interesting!
Thanks Church of the green flip flop, love the name!
Thank you so much, this video series has been very usefull
Pleased you enjoyed it

Really interesting video. I too would like to know the secret acid wash mixture please?
I prefer to watch sanding, verse pressure washing. To bad was not able to squeeze some in. But playing with acid that’s a close 2nd to sanding.

Hi John, I’ll send you a direct message.
@@RefitandSail George, I have a Featherstream, could you let me know as well please

Hi George, have you done a Video on Anodes / Anode protection ?😀
Not specifically about that no.

From memory the AF is Hemple Millie-NCT, very nearly as good as Micron 99 but the latter is professional use only and smallest quality is 20L
Hi George, i enjoy the pressure washing, even though i didn't get wet or dusty!
Do you use posh yachty prop cleaner or brick cleaner?
David.
Any acid will do the job with care, brick cleaner is fine, I don’t use “posh yachty” products unless necessary
@@RefitandSail glad to hear it! Brick cleaner is the same stuff but only a tenner for 5lts. I do like the look of that prop.
No "Net Cutter" in front of the prop...?

More sanding please…lol
That I can almost guarantee!
Bit of a shame such a nice boat sits most of its time in its berth though 😮
Well done cleaning up such Dirty girl
