    Mascara! I won't splurge on mascara. The drug store does it so well and it needs replaced all the time too.

      Me too! Or eyebrow products/eyeliners. And tools like sponges/eyelash curlers. Why would I spend more $ than necessary on the same quality?

    It’s NOT petty! Makeup time is YOU time, and part of the appeal for doing makeup
    IS the experience as well as the time you take for yourself. I have to say, I get so excited about some luxury products and will spend the money on them-packaging and scent and the way they apply make it worth it! Eyeliners, lip liners, gloss-I can get cheap and use up and don’t care so much about! Don’t feel bad for enjoying a pretty high end product!! You deserve it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ love you!

      I agree concealer is worth a splurge! 😃🙌🏻 I love making Dollar Tree makeup videos and I have found so many great products (and some are even vegan/cruelty free!) and a great concealer is the one thing that I haven’t found yet there yet

      That's crazy! I don't want to pay that much as well... Especially because you have to throw it aways regularly and replace it. For brushes... Sure the last for a waaaay longer time.

      I bought one ages ago to try to see if it was any better than the RT one I love but I've barely used it! Honestly I think the other offerings from other brands are great and I can't justify the price point. Literally the price tag is just in the name since it was a market leader initially

    I don’t “splurge” on any makeup item. All of my high end products were either gifts, bought at Marshall’s, or second hand from Poshmark.

    • @JessicatheDollarDiva
      @JessicatheDollarDiva 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I love buying makeup at Marshalls & TJ Maxx and I’m fairly new to buying makeup there! You can find high end products for a fraction of the price! 😃🙌🏻💖 I also love making Dollar Tree makeup videos and I stumbled across a brand at Dollar General called Believe Beauty (i think they have a website too!), it’s AMAZING!! Everything is between 4 & 5 dollars! 💖💖💖

    Such a fun video! Your comment about how often sponges need to be tossed got me thinking, have you found any good biodegradable ones? If I'm not mistaken Beauty Blenders are made from latex so won't break down right? I think I'd be willing to pay more for a sponge if it was sustainable🤔

    I love higher end makeup. It just makes me happy to open my makeup bag but I do splurge on brands more than in categories. My guilty pleasure is Hourglass - I dont know what they do but there products just work for me - maybe they have secret fairy dust mines? :)
    But there are for sure HG at the drugstore like Loreal Bamby Eye and nyx Butter glosses.

    I'm a drugstore girl at heart but I'll splurge on eye primer. I have oily hooded eyes so a qualtiy eye primer is important to me. I bought a mini of the urban decay primer potion a while back to try it out. I loved it so much I picked up the full size in the VIB sale!

    • @TH0KH

    Hey Kelly I totally agreed with most of your options about eyeshadow palettes and blushes. I just finally broke down brought the Sigma Enchanted palette to try out. I was wondering if you do a part 2 to this video with your option about foundations, primers, settings sprays, eyeshadow primers and lipsticks/lip glosses of all sorts. I struggle with drugstore verse highend.

  • @morganblalock873

    I'm frugal about eyebrow gel (Elf's is $3 and Essence's is $2 and they're the best I've ever seen) and a touch up powder (to mattify during the day) because I go through these things so so quickly.
    I'm generally willing to splurge on eyeliners (UD's are my fave pencil liner) so they last all day and blush/bronzer products.

  • @redjarl
    @redjarl 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Agree with you on most👍❤ Brushes, hefty sturdy pretty packaging of blushes, highlighters and palettes❤ I will splurge on mascaras, because my lashes start to fell off after cheaper versions

  • @kaitlynw7585
    @kaitlynw7585 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve commented it before but that elf eyebrow pencil is my holy grail now thanks to you. I’m trying UD’s Brow Blade right now because I had gotten it during 21 Days of Beauty and it broke on me twice! Can’t wait to get back to my $5 pencil. I definitely agree packaging matters, I feel like it shouldn’t but it does.

    Totally agree take note people!!! SPONGES a need to be changed every month (especially if you apply make up 5-6xs week! Like most of us do before going to work. Now if your only using your sponge 2-3xs a week you can stretch the sponge alil bit longer. I personally do not keep a sponge any longer than 3-4 weeks. I have like paw paw blenders 20+ lol anytime I make a shopmissA order I buy a lot!
    Also the Juno co sponges perfection!!! I love the lavender and lemon drop! I just bought 4 more of them few weeks ago when I ordered their moonshine primer BOGO! Total steal! 4 sponges plus a brush solid cleanser 11.99! Total steal!
    The elf complex sponges incredible!! 10 bucks for 2 or 1 for 5.
    Incredible products and even better prices!!! There is no reason not to Change our your sponges every 30 days 60 maximum for minimum usage!
    I am a LC Esthetician. I’m passionate about skincare and cleansing tools properly!

    I heard once you can put clear nail polish on the handle of the brush over the words so that they don’t wear away. I did it on a bunch of mine and it totally works. But I have continually forgotten to do it when I’ve gotten newer brushes... lol 😂🤷‍♀️

    For me - as a Hungarian - it is always going to be higher end - mainly because the stuff at our drugstores are bad... we usually receive very late, or never, the newer releases at the drugstores, or if we end up receiving them, most likely it is not the complete range. Also we have 27% VAT (one of the highest, or the highest in the EU), so I also usually buy my stuff from other countries - until UK is part of the EU will be buying from them - because even if something is available here, 80% of the time it is way more affordable to buy them from the UK, example if I buy anything from Smashbox their prices here tend to be 10-20% higher than from an online retailer.
    Also I found that with a lot of drugstore stuff, the things just do not last one me - like foundations, eyeshadows, primers, and so on.
    What I would and will also in the future consider always buying from drugstore: blush, mascara, lipsticks and lip pencils (since I do not really wear them that often I do not mind if they come off easily).
    What I will never again buy from drustore are eyeshadows, primers (both face and eyes), foundations, concealers, powders, setting sprays, brushes. I will never get rid of my ND nor ABH shadows. They are excellent. My newest baby the ND Metropolis - I was so afraid that I spent so much on it, what if I will not like it that much, or it will be like meh, but luckily I love it. :)
    What I might consider and depends on case by case: bronzer, highlighter, brow stuff, eyeliners.

    I like my high end foundation, concealer, loose powder and brow pomade. I like all ranges of liners, blush, bronzer and highlights. However, my brow pencil is elf, mascaras are essence, pressed powder Catrice, eye primer is milani, mascara primer is CG. I love indie, high end and CP eyeshadow.

    I 💯 agree with you about the beauty sponges. Honestly the good old fashioned makeup wedges still get the job done and you get like 20 in a pack for just a few dollars. If their good enough for Wayne Goss, then their good enough for me.

  • @alicel6451
    @alicel6451 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Foundation is one thing I splurge on, it is just hard to find one that I like so I rather buy something that I can try and exchange/return if I need to. That's why I don't buy drugstore ones anymore. But everything else, I just shop around sales. Nowadays, you can buy everything cheap if between Ulta's sales, holiday sales, subscription boxes etc etc. And when in doubt, there is always Colourpop... I do starting to have this mentality of buying a few luxury beauty products that perform well with nice packagings, instead of owning a big collection. I love how they just look pretty on my vanity.

  • @bridgettew.2284
    @bridgettew.2284 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don’t often splurge on makeup but it I do it will most likely be on eyeshadow, lipstick, blush, or highlighter. I feel like for me these are the “fun” part of makeup that come in a variety of colors and finishes that I’m willing to try. Anything else I feel like it is hard to tell the difference, like eyebrows pencil, mascara, eyeliner.... they’re all just subtle items in a makeup routine, they aren’t the final point. However I won’t spend over $40-$50 on any product because to me that’s unnecessary if you don’t have YT as a job.💕

  • @maricellanunez6855
    @maricellanunez6855 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don’t like splurging on blush. I just got into blush. For the longest time, I just didn’t like it. I’m medium/tan so I always felt highlight and bronzer was enough but lately I’ve been falling for peach and natural blush colors. I love the blush from elf in cheeky. Oh I do love my Nars orgasm (I got the mini free for my birthday). I do want to try the blush from Samantha March because I just love her! Lol. I don’t like splurging on brushes. I’ve always bough elf, morphe, wet n wild, or real techniques. I do have some Luxie brushs i got from make up subscriptions.

      @maricellanunez6855 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh and for bronzer, I used to buy too faced a long time ago but now switched to milani and elf. I really want to try essence. Mascara never buy high end unless it’s on sale. Same with eyebrow products. Eyeshadow palettes are the only thing I splurge in. I love my Anastasia sultry!!

  • @michelleacker8691
    @michelleacker8691 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have to splurge on foundation. Unfortunately there isn’t a drugstore brand that carries shades for olive skin tones. There are a handful of drugstore foundations that I would like to try but can’t because none are even close to matching me. Oh well! Maybe one day though! 🤞🏼Great video Kelly!

  • @alexandra109

    For me: Primer - both, brushes/sponges - both, Color corrector - highend, Foundation - drugstore, concealer - both, Powder - both, eyeshadow - highend, blush - both, bronzer - drugstore, highlighter - highend, mascara - both (but only highend when on minis or on sale) Lips - both, but mostly drugstore, only highend I really will spend $$ on is Buxom and only on sale.

    Eyeliner, lashes, brow pencils, makeup sponges, lip liners & I’m starting to do it more with liquid lips. I definitely do know what u mean when u say the experience tho. I’ve noticed that if a drug store product is my favorite it has to be really good!

    I don’t splurge on brow products haha but I’ve thick brows so I’m good! Also I’ve heard you and others rave about the profusion brushes! Are they scratchy after washing like the morphe eye brushes? And how do the profusion eye brushes compare to Bh cosmetics ones? I’m looking for a good eye set that’s not expensive but doesn’t scratch my eyelids out either (which the morphe ones did 😞)!!
    Again great video idea Kelly 😄

    Most of the stuff I "splurge" on I sale hunt for. Tarte blushes? Ofra highlighter? ABH lipstick? Staples in my collection that I wait for sales on and then snag up on the cheap. Eyeshadow palettes are my biggest splurge, though.

    For sure the highlighters are better on the high end. I did not like the Maybelline master chrome one that all the Yt'ers are raved about, and also the Wet n wild one wasn't that great either. My favorite ones are : Fenty, Becca, ABH glow kit, and the Bare Minerals--all love, love. I don't splurge on makeup remover, as I use only baby oil. Packaging is important as most lower end makeup breaks!!! I love my Milani Luminoso blush, but it is broken. I love the Maybelline city mini palettes, but also love UD and TF palettes. Sort of the mid range price point. I use eyeline pencil and eye shadows for my brows. I will splurge on blush as I have way more blush than anything, except lipgloss. I have Hourglass, TF trio hearts, Clinique, four Stila cream blush, and Laura Gellar. I wear all of them and I will try not to buy another one. I too won't buy expensive lipliners. I bought a Wet n Wild bronzer brush that did not last at all, but it worked well for $3.99. Yes, the barrel and the fibers fell off and I couldn't glue it back. Your makeup looks gorgeous!!

    I splurge on foundation, eyeshadow. I think it depends on how fast I'll use it up. I do think indie and drugstore are amping up their game.

    I don't splurge on eyeliners, Lipliners, mascaras, lipsticks. These all have shorter life spans and I don't wear my eyeliners and lipsticks often enough. I don't splurge on foundation, I keep 2 drugstore ones that I don't even finish off before it's time to replace them. I would if I could though.
    I will splurge on Lip glosses if I can (I'll get minis for more options) , eyeshadows, Bronzer, face powder sometimes and sometimes highlighter. I've never splurged on a blush but I'd love to buy Sigma Cor-de-Rosa one day.
    I definitely prefer to splurge on powder products because I know it'll last longer that liquids and creams.
    I LOVE the experience of makeup with luxe packaging and quality but my pocket doesn't love the experience of paying for them too often.

    My thinking in this is that I will NOT splurge on products that I really use up and regularly. For me these are Foundations, Powders, Face mists, foundation sponge, Mascara and brow products. These are products that I use up multiple times YEARLY, so if I splurge on them, it really really adds up over a year. Let's say if I splurge on a eyeshadow palette and pay 40-50 dollars for eyeshadow palette (for me it is a splurge, especially with so many good ones on the drug store) but I might have this eyeshadow palette for 4-5 years, or even more. But if I splurge on a foundation, I might need to buy that again 3 times a year, compared to a lower end, good foundation that might cost me about 10 dollars. If I would splurge on eyebrows pencils, Mascara and Foundations, I honestly think I could double or triple or even more the amount of money I put towards make up EASILY in a year.

    I splurge on eyeshadow, lipstick, primers, and blush. I save on foundation,setting spray, mascara, and brow pencils. To be fair, I get boxycharm so I rarely feel the need to buy mascara or brow products because they come so often in the box.

    I splurge on bronzer. A $20 mini lasts me a year so whatevs. I also buy lip kits when they go on sale lol. Eyeshadow I only have 1 neutral palette at a time and use it till it’s mostly empty, so I’m fine paying for a higher end palette every 1-2 years

    I'm weird when it comes to what I'll spend on makeup 🤣 I don't tend to buy any one makeup product for more than $40. I know it is common, but for some reason colorful powder just will NEVER be worth that much to me. The one exception was my lunatick labs contour palette, it was $45ish during a half off sale, and I REALLY wanted that one 🖤 so I basically stick to drugstore or sale makeup 🤷‍♀️ my "splurge" is probably average for most

    Items that I splurge highend are eyeshadow palettes 🤗 and my powder foundations, I've gotten mascaras, brow products, lip products, blushes, bronzers everything highend, but all of these items for the most part I love and prefer drugstore over highend for the quality, results and price. Except eyeshadows, that I tend to go for the highend, but have found a couple drugstore that I really enjoy.

    I have been so confused as to how you go through bronzers so quickly! I've had the same bronzer for 2.3 years now. The first year I only used it about once a month, but I've used it ~5 times/week for the last 6 months and I am still MILLIMETERS away from hitting pan! And it really doesn't seem like you go in heavy with the bronzer in your tutorials. I just don't get it, and I'm so jealous!

    I am the same way with makeup I am with fashion I love mixing high-end with more affordable options like I'll pay $100 for a pair of jeans but I'm not going to pay $100 for a white T-shirt and I'll pay $60 for foundation but I won't for mascara

    I don't really "splurge" on anything, because most of my high end stuff was purchased on sale and/or with a coupon/extra discount. I guess I have high end taste in blush, though...my two blush palettes are high end, but that's because most drugstore ones have talc. (Milani now has some that don't, but I'm years away from needing more.) I'm drugstore mascara all the way.

  • @BekaJadexoxo

    I splurge on basically everything, look I just like the high end experience. I also find that in Australia we don't have as many of the great drugstore products, and drugstore is like so similar in price for a lot of brands. I buy high end mascara, only because the minis are like $20 and drugstore mascara is $20-$30 so unless you get a mascara on sale at the drugstore it is the same price. I only go through a mini in the 3 months that you can have them open, so not worth getting a full size for the same price. (I have to throw them out straight away on 3 months because my super sensitive eyes can not take it the second they are old).

    Brushes are the only items I'll splurge on, I love my Sigma and Zoeva brushes. However I won't buy anything more expensive than Sigma.
    I guess I also slurge on eyeshadow since I only buy singles. I don't consider them to be expensive (usually 5€-7€) but I know the price of singles deters a lot of people but I love to just own the exact shades I want without any dupes.

    Can someone please tell me why people splurge on high end lipstick? Mainly the cream bullet formula. I can understand liquid matte but I was playing with my lipstick collection yesterday and comparing it to high end I don’t see a big enough difference at all! I have the new Wayne Goss, JS bullet, Elizabeth Arden bullet, and Lipstick Queen liquid color changing. JS is really nice but when I was comparing all of them to my drugstore collection it’s just NOT ENOUGH of a difference to justify the price. Is there a formula out there that really is THAT different to pay almost 30 40 bucks for? I don’t get it! Opinions? I’m curious.
