If you think all American interest is that of Taiwan buying their weapons, then you don't understand American interest. How many Billions of Dollars do you think US can earn by selling weapons to Taiwan, to have such "Strong" interests?

People in Taiwan can live their lives as what they wants based on current political system, the government in mainland had offered them one country 2 systems, but the fact is Taiwan Island is part of China n that's will not be changed no matter who or which political party is in power in the mainland cos the 1.4 billion Chinese in the mainland will not allow it to happen. The authority in Taiwan knew this that's why they dare not declare Taiwan Island an independent state. As to whether other countries especially USA will send their army to defend Taiwan , for sure they will not, ask their own citizens whether they willing to send in their soldiers to die for Taiwan.
