Thanks John. I'm trying to get a video out a week at the moment but sometimes it's not possible due to the paintings taking time...I'm doing my best to get more videos out and I have more in the pipeline. Thanks for subscribing, stay tuned 😊
Thanks, I have been interested in plants since I was a kid, I also studied plant biology at uni back in the day and I am a qualified arborist. I worked in the arboriculture industry for over ten years. 😊
Very nice. Your use of the different mixes and values of green really create the depth, the reality, and the beauty of your painting. I learned a lot. Thank you.
One of my favorite landscape demos on TH-cam. I’ve probably watched it at least four times. Fantastic painting, Sam! You’re such a great teacher as well.
You're good at explaining as you go, especially the colors you're using and the mix. Also.........the music works well and does not distract from the learning process. NICE JOB!
Another brilliant painting by Samuel Earp Artist! Thank you again for your Pateron! I love it! I bought my favourite one of your videos as well I am so happy I found you! Thank you again 😊.
Sam, you’re awesome! I cannot tell how much I love these videos, they literally inspire and courage me to grab the brush and keep painting, thank you so much for that. I’ve always been a huge admirer of New Zealand, its stunning nature and Zealander people and you made me adore NZ even more!
I am learning to do oils for the first time and have found your videos so informative. I normally do watercolor, gouache and acrylic and find doing oils such a struggle. My brain wants to revert to my techniques for my water based mediums, which really does not help me achieve what I want with oils. Just watching you paint and you explaining what you are doing and why, is really helping me understand how I need to approach oils. Thank you for your videos!
wonderful painting as always Sam! i love all the detailed instructions of color, value, etc. - very important! even though i paint with acrylics instead of oils, the basic principles of painting still apply while keeping in mind the differences between oils & acrylics!, bravo!!! 😊👏❤️
Already said this on your instagram but I must say it again... this is absolutely gorgeous! Definitely one of your best paintings so far in my opinion. I love learning how to manipulate light and create more theatrical lighting as you've done here. Thanks very much for sharing, Sam!
This is such a useful tutorial for me. I live in a mountainous area in NSW Aus. I’m stuck reworking a landscape with cows and i❤ it and hate it in equal measure. I think I can see a way forward now
I’m not sure how you popped up on my TH-cam listing, but I’m glad you did, such a descriptive lesson, thank you. Great painting, you are good!! Initially I thought this was in the UK, but as you mentioned you are in NZ, landscape is so similar.
Glad it was helpful Sally. I actually grew up in Devon and a lot of the landscape here in Northland, New Zealand reminds me of the rolling hills in Devon. 😊
Very welcome, thanks Neville. Yes I am very happy with my Portfoliobox website, it's very easy to use. They came to me at the right time as I have been thinking about separating the painting tutorial aspect of my website and the fine art side of it for a while now. It makes sense for me to have two separate websites 😊
I found this and coincidentally I’m thinking of painting a family farm Town Farm which was ours in 1783. But I was worried about all the green. Thank you so much for this. It will help with the colours mixing. I don’t know about adding the cows though, I’m not a good drawer of animals. Thank you again.
Yes definitely! Here is a link to the written tutorial for this painting: www.samuelearp.com/new-blog/2020/8/11/how-to-paint-a-rural-landscape-tips-for-mixing-grass-greens
Hey Kim, I have a Yellowstone pochade box which I use in my studio. I use a standard camera tripod, it's made by an Italian brand called Manfrotto. These are good tripods. 😊

Bonjour Isabelle. J'utilise à nouveau le traducteur Google. Je peins sur des panneaux de lin et ils sont fabriqués par une entreprise aux USA. Son lin belge est apprêté à l'huile et monté sur du bouleau baltique. Merci pour votre subscription 😊
Hi Sam, thank you for another wonderful tutorial. Your explanations are fantastic. Can I please ask how you clean your pochade palette and whether you do this when you get home or leave it until you start again in the studio? Excuse the randomness of the question.
Thanks Kiki. I clean my pochade box on site and then if needs be clean it at home as well. As I often use the same colours when painting in the field I tend to leave them in order on my palette, but periodically I'll use some sort of paint stripper to get all the old paint off and then start again. 😊
Thanks Ian. The trees are tōtara trees (Podocarpus totara). All the native trees here in New Zealand have Maori names. The Maori alphabet is different to the English one and some of the letters sound different, for example the letter 'O' sounds like 'or'. I do my best to pronounce the Maori names correctly but being from England myself I sometimes get them wrong. 😊
Thanks David, the panel is 8" x 10". I've been painting a lot of smaller and medium sized painting as I can get them done quicker and so make more TH-cam videos 😊

Every week I have the thought "I hope Sam is releasing a new video this week". I don't think I've ever been let down. Another fine job!
Thanks John. I'm trying to get a video out a week at the moment but sometimes it's not possible due to the paintings taking time...I'm doing my best to get more videos out and I have more in the pipeline. Thanks for subscribing, stay tuned 😊
I am just as impressed with your botanical knowledge, as I am with your painting and teaching ability.

Another outstanding work, Sam. I've learned a ton about greens from your videos. Take care and thank you once again.

Great tutorial Sam. Scene reminiscent of somewhere in the Yorkshire dales. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. I haven't been to York since I was a child. There are parts of Northland, New Zealand that reminds me of Devon where I grew up 😊

Wonderful again. I have this pochade box in Yellowstone. The largest one! It’s very heavy. What tripod do you use? Mine is getting old.

Bonjour Samuel magnifique paysage, cette peinture est faite sur panneau de bois, est ce que tu mets de l enduit avant de peindre ? Merci

What brand are your colours Samuel?
I use Langridge Handmade Oil Paints 😊
Enjoyed! Are you using oil paint?
Thanks Suzanne, yes I'm using oil paint 😊
Bardzo dziękuję!

@@SamuelEarpArtist Thank you so very much, that is a great method, I am looking forward to warmer weather to get plein air painting.
I love this green color 😍😍😍😍 did you change your green style? I feel like it's different from the green colors of the latest painting
Thanks. I generally use the same group of colours for mixing greens, just in different amounts depending on the landscape I am painting. 😊
Fantastic painting and great info.
What is the type of tree you mentioned? It sounds like "torturer tree", but I don't think I heard that right.
Ah. Tōtara?

Where abouts in NZ was this done and what region are you based?
Thanks. I am based in the Bay of Islands in Northland. This scene is just down the road from where I live 😊
What paint did you use? I want to try this with watercolor.
I used oil paints for this art work 😊
