  • In painting we have to simplify our subject into big shapes but then we have to be able to break up the color and create beautiful color variations.

    Phil- of the hundreds of videos that I’ve watched of yours i think this is one of the best! Simple, to the point, and great visual of your various green mixes. Will use as a reference for a concise greens color chart to hang in my studio. Thanks!

    Thank you for this! Green is the bane of my existence and I'm challenging myself to paint more green. This video is perfect!

    The addition of the fence in the foreground leading the viewer into the middle of the canvas really ties the composition all together ! I have really learned a lot from your lessons and ebay videoes Phil,thanks,Michael.

    Thank you Phil, this helpful for me. However I’d rather see you mixing the paint on your pallet instead of the photoshop blob but I guess that’s because I love the "feel" of the paint. Thank you again though, I love what you’re doing to help us all.

    Thank you for posting a video on mixing green in oils. Very helpful to see the colors you choose and the mixes you develop from these. It is also helpful to hear your thoughts on coloring mixing.

    Thanks Phil! I would never have thought of mixing ultramarine blue and viridian for a blue-green. Lots of possibilities in this video. I have been wanting to explore colour temperature and this helps.

    Thank you. That was very helpful. I live in the Namib desert and I always have a problem with sand and more sand and always struggle to make that look interesting. I will use this method but in Yellow Ochres and earthy colours.

    Hi Phil, I'm thrilled I found your site!! This information you've shared on greens it priceless :-) I'm working on a mountain scene with fall colours. Have you done one on autumn aspens, or do you plan to do one in the future? Thank you for being so generous with your time and knowledge ....and talent ;-)

    I have a question about color mixing. If you were to make a green from ultramarine blue and cadmium yellow light, should you first make a value string of the blue and yellow separately and only then mix each to make the green?

    • @philstarke.artist
      @philstarke.artist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Edward, If you want to make a value string of green, I would mix the blue and yellow first then add white to create 5 or 6 values.

    I heard stefan Bauman say he believes temperature is as important as value. While I understand value is number 1, I believe paintings can look a bit flat if the temperature is not correct. While my values are certainly not perfect, my paintings read as 3d, but look a little flat without being able to accurately see temperature.

    • @philstarke.artist
      @philstarke.artist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Color temperature is certainly more important than local color. It always helped me to separate color and value in my head
