    Put your socket alone on the hard to reach screw head. Take a long handle pair of pliers and slowly unscrew by grasping the socket.

    Here's a short description. The one closest to the gas pedal that's easy to get to, controls WHERE the air comes out. The one buried in the center of the dash controls the HOT/COLD BLEND. The one on the far right down low near the blower housing controls wether or not the system recirculates inside air or brings air in from the outside.

    Thanks so much! I used your excellent directions to replace the mode door actuator on my 93 Silverado. Works great! I didn't replace the top screw after all the pain of getting the old one out. It should still hold fine. By the way, I have no mechanical experience, so if I can do it...

    Thanks for this video! I only stumbled upon the driver side one the other day, and had no idea what it was. That also means I had no idea about these other ones until your video! I find that the air doesn't blow so well out of the "face" setting, so I may go buy one of these HVAC air door actuators to replace my existing one. My truck is a 98 Sierra SLE which I've owned since 2013, and in that time I've never replaced this, so it's probably failing or going to soon. Thanks again.

    This is the best video I could find on blend door actuators. MJ did a great job of identifying which one does what. Taking them out is another story. I have a 99 Yukon which looks the same. My issue is that the rear air blows cold but not the front. The one on the far right behind the blower works to actuate the door behind the plastic grid (shown in video), as you can see it move when the fan is turned on w/ the a/c on. The actuator turns and the door moves. The one in the middle, which controls temp is very hard to see. I tried to take the lower dash out by removing the 4 screws but something is still holding it in near the lighter area and I can't see if it's moving. The actuator on the drivers side also appears to be working, but not sure if I'm getting full travel. However, all the directional controls seem to work fine. Just can't get a/c to blow cold out the front? I did the reset procedure but still heard clicking after about 8 minutes. I may have some broken teeth on one of the gears?
    Any ideas appreciated.

    So does a 1998 Chevy lumina ls 3.1 have a blend door actuator? How do I know if it's the blend door actuator or the temperature blend door actuator? And if so, is the location of the blend for actuator different from the temperature blend for actuator? There is only cold air coming out on the drivers side vent no matter what the slider control is set at. The passenger side control works fine for regulating the heat and cold. I just replaced the dash heating control unit and still have the same problem. Any suggestions?

    Does anyone know if the blend door on the 1995-1998 GMC Yukon can be or needs to be re-calibrated? My modes do work, and there is a change in airflow location, However in vents only mode there is still air coming out from the feet and defrost vents, making vents only feel pretty weak.Thanks for any info!

  • @MJ-oq1bj
    @MJ-oq1bj  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If the click sounds like mine in the video it would likely be that solenoid. Sometimes mine clicked and still functioned correctly. No reason to replace if it's still working right...the difficulty in replacing it is the upper screw that has very bad access. Need to use a 1/4 drive specialty ratchet and apply pressure to the head of the ratchet to keep it on the screw if you know what I mean. A standard 1/4 drive ratchet is too thick at the ratcheting end.

    Mine made that clicking sound , it was the actuator for the recirc ( down by the blower motor ), I just made sure it was set to recirc inside air and unplugged the acuator. This would happen everytime I turned the key on or off, I removed blower and verified it was hitting its open or close limit and then clicking.

    I got a 99 Chevy Tahoe & I had my control panel stop working, it won't kick the A/C Compressor on,even since removal of the Control Panel & a friend suggested replacement of a temperature switch I think it is, but regardless before I flush & fill the coolant after an overheating issue may have blown a seal,I put a sealant leak stop in & got it up to temp & it's no longer blowing white smoke out, indicating coolant in engine & oily residue in coolant reservoir & want to flush/fill but want heat working again, esp in cold north & to allow coolant to flow freely through the whole system for flush, to flow through heater core too, but that 1 screw behind the metal bracket on blend door is seemingly impossible to get to, no room to get your hand or a tool in..any ideas. Did you get that blend door on the blower motor out? & if so how in the heck did you do it. I swear the "Flat Head Engineers, are alumni of "ScrewU" ugh, such a pain in the neck!

    • @MJ-oq1bj
      @MJ-oq1bj  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean the uppermost screw of the 3? If so get the thinnest head 1/4” drive ratchet you can get and something to wedge against it to keep it on the screw like a long screwdriver and go at it. It has a small swing radius so take breaks to maintain your patience. I believe Autozone has such ratchets, the thickness of the head of the ratchet should be the thinnest you can get.

Do you think I damaged the Climate control panel?

    • @HeSavesMankind

      All it was was the climate control panel failing. Replaced. Works great.

  • @philp8168
    @philp8168 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    that's weird because that's the blend door actuator and I know for a fact mine is bad. Mine doesn't make any sort of clicking or popping and when I turned my heater on I get heat and when I turn my AC on I get ice cold air. The only thing that doesn't work is the max AC. and that's because that motor closes the fresh air door allowing just the air in the cab to be circulated. Now every once in awhile that door will lift up and it'll sound like there's a clogged in the HVAC system but there's no clogged the door isn't being held down by the motor because it's bad.

    It is bad, do not have a video. You will need a specialty thin head ratchet for the upper screw. That is the only hard one. Used a harbor freight long handled scraper to reach up and leverage against the ratchet head to keep it in place while you unscrew it. Very little swing radius so be prepared to be patient.

      @@MJ-oq1bj my blower motor is out anyway… I gotta replace it. It just blows hot air out without the blower on. And I can’t get the air from outside.

    • @MJ-oq1bj
      @MJ-oq1bj  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThatOh5Cateye might be the flapper is stuck open and is allowing the heater core heat to enter the cab. I have no other info on that but it’s a good place to start. If it’s stuck or the actuator is stuck open then that would possibly do it.

    I have had the same problem but I cannot get to it to change it how do you change it

      Need one of the thin head 1/4” drive ratchets and torx bit and a screwdriver to put pressure on the head of the ratchet for the upper screw. It’s a small swing radius as well so take breaks to remain calm. Might be a small socket actually, been awhile. Auto zone has the thin ratchet by the registers I believe

    Do you have the part number for that actuator. I have been trying to figure out which one that is and this is the only video showing someone taking about that actuator. Good video thank you

    • @MJ-oq1bj
      @MJ-oq1bj  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The popping could be an indication of the same issue. Does the AC blow front and back when you turn it on?

    • @worldundermythumblink4861
      @worldundermythumblink4861 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No ac
      does not work

    • @MJ-oq1bj
      @MJ-oq1bj  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't be sure then. That actuator switches between the heater core input and the AC input depending upon temp setting. Usually it will stick on one or the other, sometimes it will intermittently stick and then unstick and work correctly.

      compressor freon and labor

      A bad solenoid won't cause low flow as far as I know. I will try to find a link that I saw to replacing that solenoid. Its tricky.

    • @MJ-oq1bj
      @MJ-oq1bj  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It diverts air to run thru the heater core or ac unit.
