That's why I like this channel, this guy uses and tests stuff that I can buy at an Auto parts store. I'm not a pro detailer just a guy who takes pride in his ride.
Would LOVE a video with a master list of your favorite cheap/cost effective products for detailing from A-Z. Wash, clay, polish, sealant, apc, brushes etc etc.
The two thumbs-down are from the marketing directors of CarPro and Optimum respectively...a great suggestion Scott. (BTW... it's still in the mid-80s here during the day but it dips to the high 60s at nite.)
The concentration of Ammonia Thioglycolate comes into play. I'm sure with these wheel cleaners the majority of the chemical is a degreaser with a small amount of the AT. I've tested numerous fallout removers are you generally get better performance when you pay for a higher end product. I've noticed the more expensive products remove more fallout in a single application leading to a much smoother surface (which then makes claying less risky and faster) than when I use cheaper ones in the same way. Just my 2 cents.
The biggest take away from all these detailing videos I’ve been watching is that meguiars is pumping out some really good products. They’re kind of putting other companies to shame too when you start comparing prices and ease of access/availability
Hello Scott, from Puerto Rico at the caribbean. I just have that same problem with my Toyota Tundra and this weekend I'll run to Autozone to get one of those 22oz bottle to fix my truck paint. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all os us.
Hello Scott, I just purchased a brand new White Hyundai Tucson Limited and found your videos and am hooked. I have learned a great deal and continue watching old as well as your new videos. I will be picking up my vehicle on Sep 2nd and want to complete a new car detail. My plan after watching over 50 of your videos was to 1. Apply Meguiars mirror bright wheel cleaner as a iron x substitute. 2.Rinse and wash with Purple Power, 3. Use armor all ultra shine as a clay bar lube and clay bar the needed areas, 4. Use rust-oleum wax and tar remover as the last cleaning step. 5. Apply Jescars power lock and wait 12 Hours. 6. Finish off by using Meguires ultimate fast finish. I have already purchased all the products above based on your recommendations but have one issue I’m trying to resolve and have been unable to find an answer for. How do you recommend protecting the black plastic trim from any potential overspray or dripping when using the Meguires wheel cleaner? The Hyundai Tucson has a 3 to 4” Black plastic trim that runs along the side over the wheel wells among other places on the car. Should I tape them using painters tape? Should I just try as best as possible to avoid overspray and after rinsing the car just give the plastic a double wash with the purple power? Is there something that I can apply to the plastic to neutralize any possible damage? Am I over thinking the issue? My 7th and final step was to apply Chemical Guys VRP on the plastic trim to seal and protect it. I have already purchased that as well. Thanks for your tutorial and hope to hear from you soon. John
In my opinion, one of the best of your reviews, Scott! Seriously. Thanks a lot! Super informative, useful, plenty of tips (it's too bad that I didn't see it before using ironX, now I need a little restoration of rubber trim :( and more than all - money saving. Thank you again!!!
Meg's wheel brightener is certainly not PH neutral like this example. I know very little about what can be used on paint, and since I'm still learning I'm super hesitant with things I'm not sure of. But Meg's wheel brightener is, if I know what I'm talking about, an acid based wheel cleaner. I think Scott did a video where he used MWB to remove bugs from the clear coat of his own car. He says he doesn't like using it on paint and also said in the video it was very important to remove all the residue from the paint. Since I'm not every 100% sure I did anything 100% correctly, I tend to stay away from things that have the potential to cause harm if I'm not very very careful.
Hi i have a white 2019 tucson with black plastic trim and would like to know if iron x is safe to use on all plastic (headlights & black plastic trim) as well as alloy wheels? I read a negative review on Iron X off Amazon saying their black plastic trim turned chaulky white after using so I'm hesitant to try it. I am in need of decontaminating my new vehicle with a fallout remover as i have lots of orange dots on my white paint that are driving me crazy 😩 what product do you suggest? And what is the best way to use this type of product? Thanks in advance 🙏
HAPPY NEW YEAR SCOTT I HOPE YOU ALWAYS CONTINUE TO TEACH AND INSPIRE ME I HAVE FOLLOWED YOU FOR AWHILE NOW AND I HAVE PURCHASED MANY OF THE PRODUCTS AND EQUIPTMENT YOU HAVE SHARED WITH US FOR THAT I AM GRATEFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lOVE YOU TOO.
Was using Iron X today to clean off well water rust from my car and unfortunately ran out before I was finished. Based off this video I went and picked up some of this wheel cleaner and let me tell you it isn’t even close to IRON X. Don’t even waste the 7.99 that this stuff cost, wasted 2 bottles of this stuff and can 100% say it did not remove one spot. Spend the extra couple of bucks and go iron X you will not be disappointed.
Glad I saw this comment. I have a 2018 Nissan silver and we just moved into a new house and one whole aide has rust water stains on it. I guess I will try Iron X instead. Where do you get it? Also does it work on the glass?
And the way you fix the trim when you do do that. and you will. Just get a heat gun or butane torch and re heat the the plastic. and it will look new again
Hey Scott wanted to say thanks for everything that you do for detailing community. I have learned so much watching your videos. You always give it to us straight and you even save us a few dollars from time to time. Looking forward to see what you got for us in 2018 be blessed my friend.
another alternative is to buy a gallon of Adam's wheel cleaner for like 45 bucks. There's deal going right now on Amazon for the Adams wheel and tire cleaner at 31 bucks.
Ok, so how do you use it when there are plastic trim pieces? I know you mentioned never apply on a wet surface, but what about the over-spray coming into contact with plastic?
I have tried many different types of iron removes and i have to admit, nothing seems to compete with IronX. Sure there are plenty others like what you showed that "work" but i havent found anything else personally that removes as much and as easily as IronX. Again, this could just be me but ive tried a handful
Wheel brightener is not the same. It is an acid based wheel cleaner. It's good for removing water spots but is not safe on glass. It also won't remove fallout like any kind of iron/fallout remover
I own a Mazda CX-5, should I take the time to put painters tape over my plastic pieces? I have a decent amount of rail dust and I would like it to go away, but I’m worried that it will wreck the plastic now! Or should I just work on small sections and hold a towel over the plastic pieces?
Another top tip to start the new year! Thanks and happy new year to you Scott. I learned lots from your videos last year and wanted to take a moment to say thanks.
Scott, what is the active ingrediant? For bleeching I believe they use Hydrogen peroxide (or is it Oxygen Peroxide?)... In any case, would it not be even cheaper to purchase the bleeching agent from a supplier and use it? You gotta give more info! But next time I run out of Iron-X I will check Mirror Bright, thanks!
Scott, I have a 2017 RX350 with stainless steel running boards that are starting to show areas of rust/heavy deposits. Would you recommend this product for that? There are composite plastic inserts as well.
Discontinued, but check those clearance aisles of auto parts stores as they liquidate remaining stock. I nabbed a few bottles today at pep boys @ $4 per
I just wish they sold this stuff at my local Autozone. I doubt that here in Puerto Rico they sell it but now I have to check tomorrow when I got out and buy my first gallon of Super Clean. Thank you so much for your sagelike advice Scott!
you can look at the MSDS sheets, it would give you the ballpark of the concentration.. they won't tell the exact % but they are legally obligated to issue those informations in order to market chemical products because if its used in a workplace, you are required to have those documents for health and first aid reasons
You're probably thinking of the MSDS (Materials Safety Data Sheet), and the answer is... sorta. I looked up the MSDS for Meguiars Wheel Bright Cleaner, and it lists the concentration as "1 to 10%, Trade secret". So at least you know that it's between 1 and 10 percent. That's the concentration given for both ingredients. (DECYL-N,N-DIMETHYLAMINE OXIDE, a surfactant, and SODIUM MERCAPTOACETATE aka thioglycolate) It's the thioglycolate that reacts with iron to form the colored product.
He really doesn't to be honest. As informative as he is, he's kinda arrogant. There's some videos i really enjoy because he seems excited about stuff, and there's many i don't because it seems like he hates everything out there. there's a difference between a person who is a grounded but can accept both realism and fantasy. And then there's this guy who's just too grounded in reality.
Branden Lucero hi. I wrote this some time back n now i agree with u. After he started to promote his dpc products i realised he has ulterior motives. I felt cheated too. I have since unsubscribed and never looked at his channel.
scott, lets say i already have sonax full effect wheel cleaner, its a ph balanced iron remover which is "safe for all wheels including painted wheels and will not deteriorate clear coats" would you think that it is safe to use that on car paint itself? THAT would be a good money and time saver, 1 bottle to do both the rims and paint and would decontaminate both. tell me what you think or if youve tried it.....or if we are really lucky, make a video out of it
Hey Scott, are these products safe to apply multiple times. Sometimes my white car's have very stubborn iron deposit spots that one pass simply does not remove them without rough agitation. I hate to have to agitate too hard, might scratch the paint, as well as waiting too long for the product to continue working as it might dry on the surface.
In my country, we have this product called "citrus iron decontaminant". It costs nearly 6usd. Meguiars products are expensive here and rare to find. Sir, do you think this so called citrus iron is worth the investment or should I go for the expensive ones?
P.S. that 6usd product is only in a 16oz ready to use spray bottle. Does this word "citrus" makes it any better compared to other iron remover products?
Just to be clear, ALL iron removers can potentially damage plastic trim, right? Or does Mirror Bright have an ingredient that the more expensive options don't have? Thanks for the video Scott. I'm currently shopping for iron and tar removers. Coincidence that when I opened up TH-cam next to my Amazon page, I came across this video
Awesome, Scott. It's as if you read my mind! I've been eyeing iron removers on the shelves at home Depot wondering if there were safe alternatives to carpro IronX at a lower cost. My searching so far didn't come far and then I see this! Thanks for your awesome informative videos!
Mr hands, I found and have been testing successfully Nanoskin IronFree. It's half the price per gallon than iron x and is very effective. It even beets out the meguiars. Give it a shot. The speedybrite from Nanoskin is also phenomimal. Thanks Tx Jerry Seinfeld, you rock !
Hi Scott, I have thought about this one myself but what keeps me from trying this is would there not be other chemicals included in a ph balanced wheel cleaner that are just meant for the wheels? And could these chemicals not be harmful for the paint? Cheers.
hello Scott I have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee as you know buy the bumper area and all around it has those black trims all around the car and there are not painted will this product damage that
Megs wheel brightener contains Ammonium hydrogen fluoride which is the inorganic compound with the formula NH4HF2 or NH4F·HF. It is produced from ammonia and hydrogen fluoride. This colourless salt is a glass-etchant and an intermediate in a once-contemplated route to hydrofluoric acid. I’ve seen megs wheel brightener etch glass first hand.
lot of bumpers are made out of plastic, are you saying on spray on the metal parts of the car? What do you do about the same body colour parts that are plastic and have the orange spots on them?
Scott, say if I did get some on a plastic panel(I’m asking for a friend wink wink) is there a way to fix that plastic panel? It’s a Scion tC with a big black plastic panel on the rear bumper that has all white spots now. Thanks in advance and great videos dude!
What do you recommend for gallon size cleaner for good price? Nanoskin and Adams seem to be the only ones that are relatively inexpensive at around $50/gal. Tried meguiars ultimate wheel cleaner but oz for oz I'd rather just get a gallon. Any input is appreciated Thanks!!
Scott for your subscribers as i am in europe i did a reasearch for you.... Autoglym has fallout remover 5litres (1,5 gallons) for 35-40 euro, and sonax aprox to 50-55 euro 5litres....
Hi Scott, how come most videos show fallout demos on light cars [ yes I know the obvious answer ] - how about showing on red paint to show us the "bleed turn" when not obvious?
Went to auto zone to get a bottle and found out that Maguiar's recalled the whole Mirror Bright line, I was told that it was not selling that well. Bummer, I was going to try out some of this stuff. FYI for you scott
Griots fall out remover is supposed to be a thicker sticker formula. I wouldn’t mind trying it out. Not terribly expensive if you buy on the gallon. 58 bucks on amazon
dear scott, i found that Irox has a product called ironx snow shoap witch is a shoap with the iron-x ability to desolve metals................in us costs 28-20 usd per 33oz ...BUT...we can buy in europe 50 euro for 1,3gallons(130oz)..........if the cost is not matter.....would you used this product ? wash+fallout metal?? it would make sence in your world???
I found two iron/fallout remover products that are very cheap Adam's Iron Remover gallon for $50 and Nanoskin Iron Free gallon for $42. These seem the most economical for a full paint contamination and a lot less than other name brand iron/fallout removers. Wonder how they compare.
Scott running the math this comes out to 52 dollars a gallon. Adams wheel cleaner and jay lenos (excellent cling) are 59.99 of course shipping right? Well often times adams has a 20 percent off sale and that more than covers the shipping. I believe those are other comparable options. But for me having a one gallon jug and delivered to my door seem to be worth the extra few dollars. Thank you for your continued insight. I only share this info incase someone may want more options.
Hi scott love your videos, happy new years! I wanted to know how do you typically clean and protect convertible tops? Do you use super clean? And just use a plastic/ vinyl dressing?
Scott, do you know If any of these companies offer a different color effect other than purple,?? Is it a dye or a chemical reaction that causes the color change? I ask because most of these products are advertised as best for white or light colored cars. I think it simply because It is so much easier to see the effects of it working. I completely understand that the color of your car would not affect the ability of the product to do its job, but It would be nice to see it in action and to know if you got complete coverage and how much contamination is actually on your vehicle on black or dark colored cars..
That's why I like this channel, this guy uses and tests stuff that I can buy at an Auto parts store. I'm not a pro detailer just a guy who takes pride in his ride.
Danny lmao
Would LOVE a video with a master list of your favorite cheap/cost effective products for detailing from A-Z. Wash, clay, polish, sealant, apc, brushes etc etc.
Appreciate you being logical and efficient! Especially when it comes to price and avoiding the plastic trim. Very effective review 💯💪

David Morales I’m using them for my new ram man and I like them a lot .. the ceramic wax is very good and easy to use
We need more folks like you on TH-cam and in the world! Thank you!

I just started detailing. I’m glad I found your videos. Thanks heaps.
Thank you! My favorite channel on TH-cam by far. So much common sense!
In my opinion, one of the best of your reviews, Scott! Seriously. Thanks a lot!
Super informative, useful, plenty of tips (it's too bad that I didn't see it before using ironX, now I need a little restoration of rubber trim :( and more than all - money saving.
Thank you again!!!
what do you think of autoglym magma? seems like the same stuff as iron x but lower price.
Good video. I live near Toronto Canada and just ordered Iron X because I understood the ph level is safe on plastic. Ok so now I'm a little nervous.
Nice video Scott. Another money saving tip and recommendation. Thanks for that.
Ammonia Thioglycolate is the active ingredient.....
😍 ok!
Tip; if you actually go this route wear a mask. Thank me later.
I AGREE...the active ingredient in all these iron removers stink!...lol
Protip: dont use it in your garage... bog of eternal stench from Labyrinth comes to mind.

You're a hero - I wish someone would have given me this tip my first time. I went balls deep on a vehicle mid Winter in a closed up shop. Oops
@@MtnXfreeride ludo..smell bad
Scott you are a breath of fresh air in an industry that tends to foul it.
Just bought Meguiars ultimate wheel cleaner at Walmart it's the same thing and they have it on rolled back price of $8 I got 5 😉

I knew it! I was thinking about trying wheel cleaner first before buying Iron X because it seemed to react the same as I saw on TH-cam. Thx mate. 😀
Best wheel cleaner for me meguiars wheel brightener, can dilute 4:1.. cheap, very fast cleans on wheels and body

nice video. Do I have to wash the car first and apply the product? or apply on the dry surface?
How does Carpro get away with not damaging the plastic trim when it is marketed for use with a foam cannon?

Just did this and it was super easy
I'm subscribing! I love the scientific breakdown!
I have a Subaru Crosstrek with a lot of plastic trim any tips to prevent this like taping off etc.

Thanks! Do you need to apply any wax after using this to take off rust in your car’s paint?
I would as you will remove the wax as well
Can you use any wheel cleaner as long as it paint safe
So this stuff you spray it on wait 3-5 min and pressure wash it off? Or do you wipe with microfiber cloth?
Great video as always Scott!! Happy new year and god bless!

There is a product I have been using for years it’s called brake fluid dot 3 it’s very good on paint
Jacob Monroe i hope yous joking
If the plastic turns white can it be removed?
Just to be clear, ALL iron removers can potentially damage plastic trim, right? Or does Mirror Bright have an ingredient that the more expensive options don't have?
Thanks for the video Scott. I'm currently shopping for iron and tar removers. Coincidence that when I opened up TH-cam next to my Amazon page, I came across this video
Can we use Meguiar's Ultimate All Wheel Cleaner instead of Meguiar's Mirror Wheels?
Awesome, Scott. It's as if you read my mind! I've been eyeing iron removers on the shelves at home Depot wondering if there were safe alternatives to carpro IronX at a lower cost. My searching so far didn't come far and then I see this! Thanks for your awesome informative videos!

hi Scott, thanks for the heads up.. yah,, Iron X is so expensive.. how about the CG Decon Pro iron remover.. have you tried it?
Hi , will this product remove RUST SPECS ??????
I am in love with this channel!
IT may contain the same active ingredient, but does it contain the same amount of the ingredient by volume?
How does this product react with paint protection that’s on the vehicle? Aka wax or sealants.
Sounds almost identical to Howard Stern.
Great video and advice
Scott is the goat! Thanks man
I have a white car. Can I use this stuff on my white plastic trim?
Megs wheel brightener contains Ammonium hydrogen fluoride which is the inorganic compound with the formula NH4HF2 or NH4F·HF. It is produced from ammonia and hydrogen fluoride. This colourless salt is a glass-etchant and an intermediate in a once-contemplated route to hydrofluoric acid.
I’ve seen megs wheel brightener etch glass first hand.
So you're saying don't use on paint because it's caustic? What sort of timeframe does it take to etch glass?
What happens if if the product accidentally dries on the paint? Does it leave a residue?
Hey Scott. What about using Meg's non acid wheel cleaner?
lot of bumpers are made out of plastic, are you saying on spray on the metal parts of the car? What do you do about the same body colour parts that are plastic and have the orange spots on them?
ducebigalow Its fine on painted surfaces. He's talking about plastic trim that's just exposed plastic with no paint.
Yea he is talking about textured plastic trim, or flat plastic trim
Hey Scott what do you think of Adams h2o guard and gloss? Is it worth it ?
Scott, say if I did get some on a plastic panel(I’m asking for a friend wink wink) is there a way to fix that plastic panel? It’s a Scion tC with a big black plastic panel on the rear bumper that has all white spots now. Thanks in advance and great videos dude!
What do you recommend for gallon size cleaner for good price? Nanoskin and Adams seem to be the only ones that are relatively inexpensive at around $50/gal. Tried meguiars ultimate wheel cleaner but oz for oz I'd rather just get a gallon.
Any input is appreciated
Thanks!!
I've never tried Nanoskin but Adam's is extremely slow to react if it does at all. Imo, spend the extra money on the expensive/good stuff.
Thanks for this info Scott. BTW Happy New Year, Much Love From Puerto Rico 💪🏼✌🏼🙏🏼
Is this safe for painted rims, and or chrome stainless wheels?
Have you tried wheel brightner?
Ive been wanting to try some of the mirror bright stuff i guess ill start with this
Bless you! Thanks for the insight!
What you think about Autoglym liquid clay?
Went to auto zone to get a bottle and found out that Maguiar's recalled the whole Mirror Bright line, I was told that it was not selling that well. Bummer, I was going to try out some of this stuff. FYI for you scott
Griots fall out remover is supposed to be a thicker sticker formula. I wouldn’t mind trying it out. Not terribly expensive if you buy on the gallon. 58 bucks on amazon
Been wanting to try out an iron remover without the price. Thanks Scott.
dear scott, i found that Irox has a product called ironx snow shoap witch is a shoap with the iron-x ability to desolve metals................in us costs 28-20 usd per 33oz
...BUT...we can buy in europe 50 euro for 1,3gallons(130oz)..........if the cost is not matter.....would you used this product ? wash+fallout metal?? it would make sence in your world???
I found two iron/fallout remover products that are very cheap Adam's Iron Remover gallon for $50 and Nanoskin Iron Free gallon for $42. These seem the most economical for a full paint contamination and a lot less than other name brand iron/fallout removers. Wonder how they compare.
Is that safe on plastic?
Is this safe on matte paint? I'd hate to mess up my car
🤓 thx! i will check it out cause i need some purple power cleaner, pu Megs Ultimate Wheel Cleaner, same stuff 😍
Ed Heinz they both have the same active ingredient and are both safe for paint
Worked like a charm. Thanks!
I completely understand that the color of your car would not affect the ability of the product to do its job, but It would be nice to see it in action and to know if you got complete coverage and how much contamination is actually on your vehicle on black or dark colored cars..
nothing?
Why did you not apply and show how it works?????
