    Idk why this version isn’t promoted more. It seems to work well like this.

    Captures the essence of human futility in a haunting timeless melody. Pure genius

      His tempos weren't always faithful to the original piano works when he transcribed for orchestra. He knew well the difference in sonority and attention. Still, I would like to hear this at a more ponderous pace. Some of the tragedy is lost

    Le Gibet is perhaps one of the darkest pieces of music I've ever heard. It's gloomy and brimming with despair. Really demonstrates the evil of this world.

    I get it that the piano’s texture is thinner and more mysterious. However, Ravel himself orchestrated Une Barque… so, it is ok and this was done well.

    I don’t have an orchestra at my disposal, some players, but I can certainly produce stuff like this..
    Le Gibet is one of my favourite pieces period.
    I’m going to make a good orchestral addition when I get a new computer..

    Le sombre est moins présent que dans la version piano... Peut-être y fallait-il un tempo plus pesant dans la version orchestrale... au risque peut-être d'atteindre une couleur plus solennelle... Cela reste une orchestration magnifique en l'état, même si éloignée de l'orchestre de Ravel ! Cela dit, Gaspard de la Nuit, et en particulier le Gibet est une des œuvres pianistiques qui m'atteint le plus... ce qui ne me permet pas sans doute le recul nécessaire à l'exclusion de la digression.

    • @adriandurand4531
      @adriandurand4531 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ravel se refusait à orchestrer Gaspard, non sans raison j'imagine. Des trois pièces orchestrées par Constant c'est celle-ci qui est la moins convaincante. Il faut le noir et blanc du piano - et un grand pianiste ! - pour rendre justice à cette pièce hallucinée.

  • @gnikcohs

    Too lush and sonorous for me. Ravel made this piece very _skeletal_ and the piano gives it the stark bare bones sound and feel that is perfect for the haunting quiet intensity of the piece.

    Je ne trouve pas ça spécialement "evil" comme le dit un autre commentaire, c'est surtout puissamment onirique, il est d'ailleurs assez curieux de se dire que Ravel était athée, tant cette musique semble venir d'un au-delà !

    • @thomasthompson6378
      @thomasthompson6378 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would say it is not so the idea of "evil" that is being portrayed here as it is a portrayal of the "dread" that so often accompanies it. The piece portrays a hanged man swinging at the end of a rope (thus that relentless rhythm).

    Tem um monte de gente aqui dizendo que a música está muito rápida , e por isso a orquestração seria "ruim" , mas eu acho que a culpa seria mais do maestro do que do orquestrador perci

    • @akadetrorjk
      @akadetrorjk ปีที่แล้ว

      Ravel sempre acentuou que Le Gibet deveria ser bem devagar e sombrio, ainda é interessante de ouvir essa orquestração, mas nada chega perto da orquestração de Ravel

  • @williammanning5066

    Orchestrating it is a cool concept, but the original piano version is much slower, and I think that works better. Ravel literally forces you to play it painfully slow, by instructing you to keep the pedal held down for the entire length of the piece! You have to wait for the noise to clear from every measure.

    • @rigel48
      @rigel48 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GarredHATES Lacks drama ? I am not sure that drama is the point. This piece must be hypnotic and distressing. And Ravel indicated as tempo: "très lent" (very slow).
