    I was there! Glover was definitely the fastest that day but couldn’t keep it on 2 wheels. Bailey definitely deserved to win especially after what happened the previous year.

    I like Sam Posey. I don't think he knew a whole lot about motocross, but I like his enthusiasm. As far as the race goes
    I've probably watched this Moto 200+ times. I never get tired of it.

      I recorded this on VHS when it aired and still have the tape. I was 16 then and raced CR's. Bailey was my favorite

    Glover very underated,to be competitive against those factory Honda,s on that dinosaur is a testament to his skill,👍

      ...yep. A bit like Stanton when he was on the YZ490 a couple of years later. Mind you, get the suspension sorted and the YZ was a potent weapon.

    Bailey was simply the best 500 rider of his time.

      Look I am a big Bailey fan, but Bailey had the best bike period, take Glover racing a older inferior design technology wise and still gave Bailey a hard time in fact beat Bailey in 85 for the 500 title, what would have been if a Broc had rode Honda from 83 onwards, seriously as good as David Bailey was he had the best equipment as often the most dominant riders do, respect to Glover must be given in the 500 class, very underrated imo, Carlqvist also.

      Yea, Bailey was just a B amateur racer on the best bike. Glover had made his decisions, and Hannah left Yamaha in 82. Glover could have done the same. Nobody said the West coast racers made the best decisions.

    Is there a better depiction of American dominance of this period, than Glover and Bailey passing Gebores in the same corner? (min 0:50)
    Yes. O'Mara the next year at the MX of N. That was the best depiction of USA dominance IMO.

    • @rapid13
      @rapid13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed - O'Show at the '86 MXDN is the greatest motocross performance by a single rider ever, never to be equaled. Possibly the greatest motorcycle racing performance in _any_ genre.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Who got beat by Johnny O' on a 125, (and Bailey on a 500), the next year.
      He is a talented and nice guy, but he did not show his face in the USA for the next 2 years. But yea, he was the greatest in 85 in Europe, (the champ), and especially that day. OK, if you are the greatest 500 rider, and get beat by a 125, I guess you can still say he was the greatest 500 rider,---accept for 1986.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was a hard pack track that the Euro's never felt very comfortable on, and a local track for Glover who had probably raced it 50 times before this race. During this era, the track did not matter. The USA would win no matter what dirty tricks the Euro's played at 13 MX of N's USA wins after 1981, (and with B teams).

    • @russellhelms2835
      @russellhelms2835 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very good point indeed...noted! Thorpe was very good, but to get beaten by a 125...on a track more suited for the 500?! and a true Works bike at that. It just wasn’t to be that day. Johnny O was incredible.

    Love Bailey natural style but Glover on that YZ490 no match for the Hondas i think both using identical machines Glover would have taken Bailey to the cleaners

    • @heartfanjim01
      @heartfanjim01 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think Glover would be any more worry for Bailey than Johnson was. Every rider had their time to win. I think Brock had to press to be a bit faster. That led to his many crashes like in this moto.

    • @gdv4612
      @gdv4612 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heartfanjim01 If I had to put my money on any of those 3 at their peak I would chose Johnson unfortunately crashing is part of that sport.. like Jeff Ward said "if your not crashing your not going fast enough".

    I want to shout to David Bailey,just a thought I had to share,from when I used get a buzz out of watching you and RJ race supercross videos from my local Honda shop...it don't mean a whole lot today,but it just something that bothered me then,when I would watch your suspension to learn it used to scare the holly sht. out of me cause it would squat so easy,but every time I see clips from old races it would make me crunch just hoping it wasn't going bite you,more kick the bike and get hurt on a jump,nothing that you did,I know RC was running that sort of set up,but I never had a factory ride,hey wait I had 86 CR 250 close,that soft rear is more for fast out door tracks right...thanks hope that helped,I know when i see crashes you always wonder what could anybody do different if anything...
