  • Originally shot on VHS, these are the home movies of Rick Johnson.
The once a year US Grand Prix of Motocross, at Carlsbad Raceway in California.
The 1984 World Championship would eventually go to Belgian Honda rider Andre Malherbe. Honda was in full force at the GP, with Malherbe, Eric Geboers, Dave Thorpe, and Andre Vromans from Europe - they had the cool jerseys with the number in front. American Honda had champions David Bailey and Johnny O'Mara.
Nearby El Cajon was represented by Johnson, and Broc Glover, both on clapped out Yamaha 490's.
Glover would win the overall on this day. Bailey, Johnson and O"Mara were fast as well, but each had their problems on the day. Malherbe rode smartly - he knew his competition was the guys he raced against in Europe - Geboers, Thorpe, and Georges Jobe (Kawasaki).
Special shout-out to track announcer Larry Huffman!
