I think what we have here is a very hard working woman. Mr Vengerov is trying to expand her dynamic range, and having her exhibit more of her inner soul, but having a difficult time. Ms Lee appears highly introverted and not at all used to Mr Vengerov's manner. Mr Vengerov, a top teacher and communicator, does get instant results. I would guess that Jascha Heifetz would not even accept this most talented violinist in his class, as I never saw him try to connect with a student of Ms Lee's manner. Half way through, Ms Lee has definitely modified her playing with great improvement, a huge credit to Maxim's warm style. When I first became acquainted with this piece, over 50 years ago, I felt it to be the most melodic piece I had ever heard, especially the second movement. I'm glad Maxim got to this! Here he opened his soul and gave Ms Lee an incredible gift. While Ms Lee looks a bit overloaded by Maxim's style, she cannot but greatly profit from the care Maxim gave her in basically opening up the secret to this masterpiece for her to contemplate. In summary, she needs to be most aware of the venue she is playing in and reach for the rafters even in what may be softer playing.

Vengerov has imagination and he wants to hear it and he wants the energy . Poor girl . She must be pretty good to be playing for him but what he wants will take so much growth . Its a science at Vengerov's level . In this lesson one can feel and see the natural power akin to Oistrakh this man has ! This concerto has haunted me all my life . Never studied it . It's so big it feels like a completely imagined world . The 2nd movement should be the most famous music in the world . Pianists should cry that none of his 5 concerti except the one also in g minor has this kind of lyricism. No.3's variations are great music too but none of the piano concerto beats this world he creates. I cant remember that cello thing he wrote .

Inspiring and overflowing warmness throughout the session! The missing note at the end and to see both student and teacher smiling from that is really something else! :)

Watching Maxim Vengerov draw the full abilities from this amazing woman was inspiring. The finale was brilliantly performed. Who was she though?

When so much is already there musically and technically Mr Vengerov should first give complements. This concerto is extremely difficult. In a later stage I would make comments about the violinists grandness and articulation. This girl has huge talent.

The best interpretations of this concerto that I've heard are those by Heifetz, Oistrakh and Kogan (esp. his performance with the LSO). Vengerov is a marvelous violinist but his opening phrase is more lyrical and sustained, as opposed to sustained, but quiet with a below the surface tension and intensity shaped to reflect the melodic line and minor chord it traces. I think there is a suppressed energy, and violence that it suggests and foretells in the opening phase.
