Exactly, my perception can vary from anothers, a high percentage is universal yet some just have seen so many versions of Merlin, King Arthur etc. We already have expectations and that's where the problem may exist. Well, well, well, Rick Mayall as Merlin, what a turn up for the book, and what brilliant casting, not to mention his devilishly sardonic incompetence as the great wizard in the way distant past, and Maureen Lipman as the majestically mad keeper of the magical Morris Minor in (arguably) Modern times is pure genius - but mostly I absolutely adore Guinevere's implacable tripping performance in character and her stunning clothes that justify my belief that beauty is not just in the eye of the beholder but flows from the river of life itself. Happy days..

I’m glad I found this again, I like this version, makes a twist on the legend of Arthur and Excalibur….for me it’s a good movie, better than some of the junk that is out there nowadays…👍❤️🙏🏼😇
What a good movie this is when I first saw rik mayall I thought to myself who is this actor that plays merlin he's bloody brilliant so I waited for the credits so I could find out what his name is when I did I looked him and become a fan ever since
I loved Rik Mayall in Drop Dead Fred! He was brilliant in that, think Phoebe Cates was Freds friend, victim, partner in crime, It was my daughter who wanted the film ( D.D. Fred i mean not this merlin one) she was just a kid at the time, & as kids do, played it over & over until even i knew all the words.. Sorry i should be commenting on this merlin thing but its not my kinda film. BUT ... should you release DROP DEAD FRED, it would be Brilliant
...the knights attacking the tanker was a HOOT!!!...lol, shades of Benny Hill and Monty Python...great stuff...adrian paul=a "young" highlander... 38:00...no, no, not the MERLINXZ2000 cattle prod?!??...
I remember watching this as a kid, not a great film and all the actors other than Rik were wooden. He shines through and to be honest it looks like they blew the budget on getting him. Out of all the films and TV shows featuring the character, Rik is the best Merlin, even with the shitty lines he's still better than Sam Neil and Nicole Williamson.
If you can beat the power of the adverts, then maybe there is hope for us all, otherwise they will only get stronger as they are about every five minutes at present.
I'm having a hard time understanding what exactly is supposed to be happening in this movie. This isn't the worst movie of its kind, but it's not the best either. I just wish it wasn't so confusing trying to get a grasp on what is going on. There are too many inconsistencies that aren't explained making the movie almost painful to watch. Too many unanswered questions leaves the plot empty of substance.
Moredred always was bit of a spazzybellend to be honest........... And also a swordfight between Athur and Lancelot is ridiculous! Lancelot is a superior swordsman in every respect, Arthur would have gotten an right royal ASSWHUPPING!!
One person missing from this movie and that's Eddie. For some old slapstick Bottom classic humour. Eddie playing the part of Merlin's sidekick or better still his dad,
