I love that you put this out. You and Auspex Tactics are the only channels that have put out anything specifically for this. That being said its just you and him that have a video out that covers any content from the BRB and I'd love to see more. Im looking forward to actually getting a Army going through this. Might motivate me enough to take time off from work and work on my recently recruited unit for the next game.
Yeah exactly!!! It's all about creating more hobby motivation for me. You're not just planning your next win, you're planning the next phase of your story!
@@Zorpazorp I play guard in a sea of Space Marines and Tau with a occasional Necron and Nid player. So this is honestly going to be interesting.
That was way easier to understand man, thank you. Me and some friends are trying to do Crusade but with this I now know we have waaaay less RP than I thought lmao
No problem at all mate ,glad I could help!
You can't just insert a prequel meme into the middle of your video like that! This is outrageous!
It's unfair!
“Crusade is basically Battle Companies on crack” F A C T S
FFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
F A A A A A A A C T S
Excellent video! Can’t wait to throw my DeathWatch into Crusade!
Wow, it sounds like Crusade could do with its own version of Battle Companies Manager to help players keep track of it all! Really looking forward to trying Crusade out, but the rules will definitely take a bit of learning.
Ooooh potentially mate!
Thanks for this mate, I usually just collect and paint but I have been thinking of playing a game of 40k one day.
Go for it!
do it brother!
Do eet!
Experiences may vary with this player base.
@@adriangoodman8901 oh boy you said it!
I couldn't be more excited about this game mode if I tried. Character development, sense of improvement.... I think this is going to be a great mode for non ultra competitive players like me that rather playing different games every single time. Thanks for the great video!!
I'm really excited by it too! I only play 40k for the story so it's a perfect fit for me :)
After reading the crusade rules in the core book 200 times and still not understanding it your short video has made me confident in the rules of crusade thank you very much
Glad I could help!
I've been wargaming 'narrative ' style I guess since I began. The guys that taught me were older than me and generally played balanced, non points based scenarios. You've done a good job of clearing up what GW tried to explain 😄 I guess they aren't used to catering to that crowd. Great channel & content. Always enjoy your stuff.
Thanks Adam! Glad it was useful and stoked you're enjoying the content :)
My friends wanted to start a small Crusade with 1000pt lists just to get a taste for it. I read the first page in the rule book and immediately went cross-eyed, so I'm glad videos like this exist to de-GW-ify the process.
Unsure if this was clear in the rulebook or not, but I believe your character can have a normal relic as well as multiple of the crusade relics if they level up enough. It might be putting all your eggs in one basket but that basket might be anything between an Imperial Guard Commander to a Chaos Knight.
Let me check for you Craig, gimme a bit to get my little one to bed.
Finally proper narrative play!
Yesssssss, no more 'link you'r competitive games to tell a story'
It's AOS Path to Glory for 40k
Indeed!!!
Just found this as I have been preparing to get started on my Death Guard Crusade army. Liked & Subbed. Keep up the great work!
Hell yeah dude!
Really appreciate this video. We're about to start and this video was much more helpful than the rule book.
No problem mate, yeah the RB is a bloody mess.
Great production quality, good job!
Much appreciated!
I think the penalization for death is interesting, its pretty common for certain units to die in game so those penalties might stack up quick.
Potentially, I just wish everything was a tad more hardcore haha :D But no reason why we all can't homebrew the bits we don't like!
@@Zorpazorp my playgroup are discussing some sort of homebrew to try have characters or units "die" under some condition, but its hard to know until weve play tested a few times.
This is the first of your videos I've watched. Very well put together, very easy to listen to. You, sir, have gained a new subscriber!
Welcome to the family! Glad you enjoyed it :)
what, this is MESBG! loved your explanation and love the idea of battle companies in 40k another banging video
Glad you liked it! cheers Matty :)
Great video, will come back and watch this video several times once crusade is out to understand it. Good work as usual.
Much appreciated!
Thanks for making this. Got me up to speed a lot quicker than trying to unscramble the rule book
Rule book is garbage haha
Narrative is the best. I love playing 50pl with the tempest of war cards. I also am doing Crusade soon with my Orks. Gonna be fun.
If its integrated into battlescribe or the 40k app I would definitely play this. Thanks for the explanation tho 👍
No problem 👍
100% need that
Many thanks. You saved me mental anguish of understanding the mess in this book.
No problem man, it's actually a ridiculously poor layout haha
Nice condensed version of what is a very confusing rule set (at first glance) can’t wait to get my Ork crusade force on the battlefield now. Thanks for a great video 😃👍🏼
Glad it was helpful!
I've wanted a narrative system since I started 40k in the 90's. I grew up on DnD, and every time I paint a guy, I start thinking about who he is. Thanks for this breakdown. I can't wait to delve into my Death Guard force, The Grim Paladins. They're slimy, they're decayed, but they're still warriors to their core. They need something to fight for, and this system can give it to them
Oh I loooooove that name bro! You are most welcome!
I super appreciate this video! Watched it for the 3rd time, just to hype myself up. :))
Hell yeah Mykey!
Hey you just released this video and it is lit midnight so yeah. This is the first time I have seen a vid so early
Yeah I usually release later in the evening your time haha :D
Cheers. Played my first game with my cousin the other day, this video is great. Ty
Oooh nice did you like the system?
@@Zorpazorp yeah, I think it's a great idea. I'm hoping more of my group will be game to try, more narrative games do it more for me, they can still be mega competitive.
One question however. It's said you can play crusade Vs none crusade how would that work, do you have agendas and secondary? Do they get the extra CP and where in the rules does it say about playing crusade Vs none crusade? Do you just not have the buffs and nerfs gained?
I know the questions aren't in the spirit of the game, but figured I'd ask.
Cheers
@@laam999 So essentially their CP score is zero because the have no buffs and debuffs, and then they just have no agendas, because of course agendas don't actually contribute to total VPs :)
As always, amazing work!!! This will definitely help clear up several questions.
Cheers Dan
Thanks so much for this video. I too only care about narrative play and am so glad to see a video covering the Crusade system as most videos on the new edition seem to only care a matched play, something I have no interest in.
No problem at all my dude! I am very much the same!
Awesome video dude! Thank you so much. I can’t wait to get a crusade going!
Me too!!!
I swear , every 40k channel no matter big or small subscriber get this box for FREE and EARLY!! So goddammm enviousss
Yeah they sent out a LOT of review copies.
This crusade system may just help me create my commander especially so when he might be the only one stand out for his model.
Yeah exactly that's one of the things that most excites me I'm converting my judicial model into a librarian with a relic blade because of the Crusades system
That intro hahaha. Instant thumbs up.
😁 hehehehe true though
Extremely interested in this. Thanks for showcasing!!
Awsome vido helps with the basics I'll get my head around then eventually
40k clawing me back into the system
It's a but like that haha
Love it! Can’t wait to get into this!
Me too!!
Great job on this video. Only wish i had watched this instead of stumbling through the written rules first.
Glad it was helpful!
Me and my friends are starting a crusade game, so thanks, not very clear but way better than the book, my friend will explain if I have anymore questions so thanks
No problem!
I’m going to jump into this at my local club (Springfield Gamers). That explanation really helped!
Thanks
Sounds great... But, this really needs that promised app to keep track.
Oooooh yes imagine Crusade tracking in the app!
Holy crap, a pen and some paper man, I tracked my entire Necromunda gang over 3 campaigns back when it was first released (yes we had apps then also).
@@riggermortisfpv526 I was there. Apps ran on something called a personal computer... Which I used to make even more nuanced character-sheets to print... Including gear/artifact-cards.
But that was not a full army...
Without an app to track turns, special rules, and such... I respect the time and brain-power to manage that... But rather be back to locational damage and nuanced lines of sight "in-game", with complex tables of Effects and the like for added complexity.
@@riggermortisfpv526 Nothing wrong with old school Pen and paper either! done manyt campaign myself that way
We got to the end of the requisition portion and were like "what is a crusade score"? This seems like a new, unexplained thing right at the end.
Many thanks for doing this. Battle Companies on crack indeed. Like you, I would like it to go much further than it has so far. Every d6 table should be double the size, with rolling costing 1 but selecting costing 2 or 3 points. As it is, there's just not enough unique stuff to make units feel unique, and the best options on each table is likely to be cherry-picked repeatedly in all armies. I look forward to the codexes and other supplements adding (much) more to the system. Imagine if the Vigilus books had this and each battle granted named wargear, titles, relics and honours to be gained. I was also hoping to be able to follow the path of a lone Scout into a Marine to a Sergeant then Lieutenant, for example, but that doesn't seem to be the case other than just narratively with no rules to do this with any picked up traits, gear, honours or relics following him along. I hope that's fixed in future supplements because that's what was promised and this doesn't appear to deliver on that promise unless I'm missing something. Fingers crossed. Thanks again, and I look forward to your Crusade battle reports.
Yeah I'm basically in the boat with you on all that, needs a lot more detail to make it flavourful and interesting, hopefully we see specific narrative updates!!! Stay tuned man they should be really exciting!
They’ve already confirmed that faction specific updates will be in codexes, like turning a SM character into a dreadnought.
@@dannyaland6968 this comment gives me hopes that i can turn my infantry squad into a veteran squad, or promote a conscript cannon fodder into a fortification.... see what i did there?
Have to be honest my mate and I dabbled continually in 40k but could never commit, always just got a bit meh! Crusade however is a biiiig step in the right direction. Never fully understood before because of the rules layout and explanation you rightly brought up. I think we may very well indulge in this progressive narrative side now. Do you think they may introduce more drastic consequences to units post battle? Or will that mostly go down to house rules and what we want from it?
They have released some updates, but I don't think they've made the injuries worth, but I haven't checked it all out yet :)
I really like the Crusade system thus far. I would like to find a way to work it into a tile map campaign system for me and my friends though. Specially considering I have a nice Planetary Empires set with added 3d printed tiles! Any ideas?
OH MY!!! That sounds amazing! I'd love to see photos of the planetary empires set, feel free to throw them up on our facebook group linked in the descy :)
Love this. I am so hyped for 9th edition.
Trying to restrain it but me too tbh haha
You can use requisition points to increase the unit size to maximum. Does that mean all of your initial units have to be at minimum size or can I take bigger units if I can fit in the increased number of power points they cost?
Sorry there's no answer. I have the same question.
I’d love to see some crusade action on the channel sometime!
Me too Ben, me too. Soon hopefully.
So helpful, i can't wait to try it :)
Me too!
How will the Crusade rules work with reanimation protocols with necrons? They're technically destroyed and come back. Would you only roll for the ones that didn't come back I take it?
So the battle scars are per UNIT, not per model. So as long as there are some necrons alive from your squad at the end of the game they're not destroyed :)
@@Zorpazorp Ah right. That makes sense. Thanks haha
@@Zorpazorp My Termagants say thank you since they're backed by Tervigons lol
Amazing video man. Thanks.
My pleasure! Gald it was helpful!
So, what are the melee weapon enhancements?
Nice video dude
Glad you enjoyed it
Oh my god, the Jay Claire shout out!
lololololololol
Did I miss something or was this just not in the video? I heard that you'd be able to use a crusade army against a non-crusade army in some way
Yeah so it's played at normal but the non crusade army will have no crusade points so they'll have the maximum command point bonus :)
@@Zorpazorp ok, so everything is solved with command points
How will this account for the difference in point value between the two armies? My local community is convinced that since Crusade is built off of Power Level it’s unbalanced against armies built with points, and as such the two modes can’t be mixed.
Great review, inspired me to play in a Crusade. However, I'm not understanding how you can ever play a game over 1500 points if you never have more than five RPs to increase the Order of Battle. Thanks for sharing.
I absolutely love the Crusade system. But I have no one to play with. So I basically playing with myself. Thanks to Indomitus box I can do it.
Good job. Subbed.
Thanks for the sub! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Nice! Thanks for explaining!!
Happy to help!
Thx zorpa!
Thank YOU!
That thumbnail 🤣
Hehehehe beean wanting to do it for ages, but doesn't look great in a Middle earth setting haha
Zorpazorp hopefully we will see one in SW legion some time 👀
Definitely wanna see Lachie as Captain Rex 🧐
Kinda hope we can track all of this in their new app.
I'm definitely not buying that overpriced nonsense, but it would wanna be in there for sure.
@@Zorpazorp yeah I guess 8 euro's a month, for something as trivial as tracking and building your army is a somewhat ridiculous price. I at first assumed the price would be justified as all new codex would be added, free of charge, but who was I kidding. We're talking about a GW product. But I guess, I could try it for a month and see if it's worth the 8 euro's. I kinda like things to be neat and streamlined. If that app does it for me, then fine.
Great video!
A question; how does a 25 PL game work for Imperial Knights? The rulebook specifically says for a Combat Patrol game the Knights have to use a super-heavy detachment, yet unless they run 3x Moiraxes it's impossible right now for them to do this.
Thanks Richard! The only thing I know about he knights is that they can purchase the character keyword they gain from their Lances special rule is by spending the specialist reinforcement requisition, nor sure about their detachment structure. As always I'd just confer with your playing group and gop with what makes the most sense story wise :)
THE RULE BOOK SUCKED AT EXPLAINING THIS.....THANK YOU!!!!!
It was bloody useless aye haha
I love narrative games. Like I will go to a tourney and compete but I would much rather do fluffy games. :P
Yeah me too. For Star Wars legion my only interest is narrative. In middle Earth I love both because it's such a fantastic competitive game as well as being amazing for story.
Good video, deffo earned a sub...
Question tho, if i build a battle forged army put of multiple sub factions i. E. GSC and tyanid because its probably easier to explain, how do i factor in sub faction abilities.... Do i have to run 2 detachments, 1 for each or can it be souped together in one big ball of biomass and if so do you get sub faction abilities like kronos and rusted claw or do you just get cult and nid abilities
I think they have to be run as separate detachments but I'm not sure yet to be honest!
Follow-up question on the two pages in the crusade journal: Does each crusade use only one Order of Battle sheet and one Crusade Card per unit? If so, what does the "...During this Battle" column refer to? Or does each battle require its own Crusade Card for each unit?
Hey Steph! So Your order of battle is like your overall roster. One sheet that you update as required. It should NOT be ptined on every second page, fucking stupid decision on the Journal.
Each unit was it's own Crusade card, which you record everything on and update. The 'during this battle'section are there for you to log kills and objectives in pencil, then tally up at the end of the game, convert to experience or battle honours if required and then erase to be ready to track next game :)
Hope that helps! Fire through any moree q's you have.
@@Zorpazorp Thanks for the explanation. I didn't buy a journal for exactly that reason. That makes perfect sense.
@@stephaniesulik1009 yeah I felt completely ripped off. The quality was abysmal!
Well this vid just got me to sub.
Yay! Welcome mate!
Thanks for this, just about to start Crusade and this broke it down really easily!
Though the question I had before from reading the rules, and I'm not sure if its really been answered... my Death Guard units with Champions, can be upgraded (for 1CP in normal games) to allow that champion to take a relic - can I spend 1RP to apply that stratagem, and then another RP to give the Champion a relic? Or is it hard and fast that in Crusade only characters can be given relics?
I feel like I understood that, yet am still confused, lol... welcome back to 40k...
Hi! Are you allowed to use specialist detatchments and its warlord traits and relics from the vigilus defiant book in crusade?
The victim? 4:22 ish cheeky. why can't named characters gain exp? That aside does it apply to models you have named? And how does one make characters? I would have liked a finding custom powerful gear tables like miniwargames deathwatch irem generator.
Haha the ''Victor'', and named Characters are unique profiles designed in a Codex.
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Can you add a 10 man tactical squad (paying the extra power level) when you add it to the battle order or do you have to use the rp to to make it a 10 man squad? Unsure on how to add units and weapons as usually use points and not PL
Great video thank you
Hey David! So you only need to spend RP to change a unit on the order of battle, you can add it to the pool in any configuration :)
@@Zorpazorp brilliant thank you just couldn't see where it said that, the video is great please do more, I am writing a new planetary empires rules set for crusade its gonna be amazing
@@davidankers2697 I would love to see that rules set when you get it done :)
I have a question, I run orks in Crusade. Do you have to use Requisition Points to give your orks their abilities like Dakka Dakka, 'Ere We Go, Mob Rule, and any other ability?
So if I understand correctly, the Specialist Reinforcement Requisition is for upgrading things like Intercessors to Veteran Intercessors, or upgrading a Chaplain or Captain to have the BA’s Death Vision of Sanguinius, be in the case of the later they can’t take relics or warlord traits, so would be unable to give a DC Captain a warlord trait, or am I misunderstanding things?
~That sounds correct Dustin! Although they can access relics and warlord traits with a different requisition :) And it has to be purchased when you initially add them to your roster.
it helps thanks
No problem Mike!
Question, Deep Concussion battle scar: Unit cannot be affected by Stratagems. We got an Apothecary on our Crusade Game, with that Battle Scar. Can he use Combat Revival? Cause the Stratagem doesn't "affect him" directly, but the unit being targeted.
Know this is old topic, but have conflicting battle trait/battle scars. Don't know how to rule on it for my gamers.
Battle tested gives objective secure.
Fatigue makes a unit unable control objective.
So what do you do. Even if it is a troop unit or not?
I am so sorry for late reply but is that Mcragge blue on the space marines? I reslly need to know.
I came here due to furry apocalypse by flashgitz and that's how I found out about the warhammer crusaders
I have no idea what that is haha, but yay?
I am playing necrons and my group isn't allowing PL increases which means RP means nothing to me unless I take off a battle scar or want to change out a unit. Campaign hasn't been fun for me playing necrons. I need to add PL so I can have more choices to play if not I am stuck with the same units.
i know this is a few months late but i have a question about Crusade points and battle scars. If a unit gets a battle scar after the first game does that mean their crusade points go to -1? or do they stay at 0 and go up by 1 when you spend Req to get rid of the battle scar?
thank you if anyone answers this
Quick question with regards to the weapon upgrades, if you have a squad leader does that mean you can only upgrade two weapons in the entire squad or once his are upgraded I can move onto other weapons?
where can we find these crusade cards you show in the video?
Hopefully this will be the model if we ever get a Dawn of War 4
That would be sick!
Love it!
Thanks!!
Question: In Crusade you can use your models from a single faction, ex. faction :Chaos. So i have a mix of models from CSM, Daemons or Chaos Knights etc. up to PL 50. But when I go to play a game and make a battle forged list, I assume you can't use the faction Chaos as a keyword and can only build that force with faction: CSM ??? I am new to 9th and was under the impression that a battle forged army can only be listed as one unless all units are from the same Codex? help me......
hey, is there anything in the Crusade rules regarding running a soup army list, or are we forced to be mono-faction?
Soup isn't a problem at all mate you build your army using the traditional battleforged attachment system so you can easily make an army with multiple factions
sweeet! cheers for the reply! Looking forward to seeing more of your content, brother. Cheers from the SF Bay Area
Seems like units can get pretty strong as you can get a lot of bonuses, but if a unit gets too many negatives, you can just replace it. Or am I misunderstanding?
I think that the system is a good first step, but It's going to be hard to regulate. How do you know if someone didn't just build a Crusade list to get all the buffs and bonuses they want and just say they got them all through a campaign? Maybe I'm too used to getting stomped by min/maxers at my local GW since I play quite casually.
Kinda wish there was more of a penalty for loosing too much, like your crusade could have a failure point where it would fail and have to start over or sometimes you'd be forced to replace specific units in some way? Just seems a little too "we got the shit kicked out of us, but walked away" for the grim 40k setting.
You can remove a unit fro myour roster at any time, but obviously you lose any bonuses too and can never add them back :)
I don't think regulation is an issue, this isn't really the type of overlay you use if you're worried about power gaming. If someone has a çrusade'list you think they've just gamed, then play someone else because they're a wanker who has totally missed the point. Although I appreciate sometimes it's hard enogh to find opponenets so just say you don't want to use the crusade component :)
I also wish the penalties wer eharshed, the onethign I don't like is it doesn't seem to matter if you win or lose!!
@@Zorpazorp Okay, that's what I thought.
Yeah, true enough. Not a lot of people lining up to play a pick up game though, especially now. I suppose though, that does in a way fit in with a narrative. I mean realistically you're not always going up against an opponent with the same strength as you... hmm, would be cool if there was some kind of way to modify the game if one side was much stronger than the other. Will have to draft some house rules after I get my hands on the book and see what's in there.
Yeah, exactly.
@@Zorpazorp i don't believe there is anything stopping you to add additional victory rewards for winning ( like +1 RP for winning the battle ) ofc, story wise its from securing vital supplies or something like that. again, i always see the rules as the rails of a roller coaster, you can always add props to theme your roller coaster. but its still the roller coaster in the end.
@@FNLastname I couldn't agree more mate!!! It's a great foundation.
I remember 4th ed and cities of death. We're of school lol
Yeah Mikeyyyyyyy
im surprised xp isnt based on the PL of what you kill, might homebrew that.
That's a veryyyyy cool idea!!!
So wait does namesd characters get upgrades ?
DEUS VULT! Sounds cool, although maybe a little convoluted.
I think it's something just plays out easily as you do it but seems wierd when you explain it step by tstep
So if your playing a Crusade army and your new codex comes out will you have to start your army all over again?
That's a bloody good point! I think you'd be able to just make the changes you need to and play on, its not competitive after all, just keep the spirit of the story in mind and you'll be right :)
@@Zorpazorp i believe there will be house rules for codex releases, ex: 1 time edit of your crusade list. essentially, they keep their battlescars they accumulated, and you 'redistribute' their XP in at least 1 thing from the codex change, and all the rest as you like. otherwise they remain untouched.
@@FNLastname yeah that makes the most sense to me too.
What do you prefer, 40k or MESBG
MESBG of course!! Best games in the world! But I do love the 40k universe too.
Zorpazorp right choice
Do u have to pay for the warlord trait of named characters?
No it doesnt cost RP, it's just an automatic upgrade :D
Ok you talked about it, but the rules are only in the main rule book?
They were at release :)
