Makes you REALLY wonder just how awesome the16mm footage in The Beatles 'GET BACK' COULD'VE looked, instead of the DNR freak show that Ring Lord ultimately presented us with. Yes I still have a chip on my shoulder about that LOL. LOVE your channel !!!!
It is simply magical! I have read some comments. ( My English is very bad) I think I understand it does not have the recentered objective for the Ultra 16 format. I have an unmodified krasnogorsk-3, it is not M42 thread. It is Russian Bayonet system. I have seen that in this system it is not possible to center the lens. Can you please confirm this is the result without centered lens? Thank you so much.
Beautiful shots! I notice in all K-3 Ultra 16 footage a reflection on the lower left side between the sprocket holes, which very likely comes from the pulldown claw slot, which is situated very close to the gate. I myself shoot with a Super 16 modded K-3, but that represents a whole new set of challenges. Framing needs "rehearsing" and "faith" in run and gun situations. Perhaps there is a fix for that U 16 reflection on the inside of the camera. I will watch your footage again on my PC monitor. Looks fantastic on my cell phone already! Thanks for sharing.
Yeah I haven't heard of any fixes yet for that reflection. Seems to be standard amongst the U16. Completely understand the super16 framing challenges. Thanks for checking it out! Just looked at your channel and realized I have already seen many of your videos when I was prepping to get my K3!
@@jacobpiller cool! Glad you find my stuff helpful. Depends on what your goal is. If I'm not mistaken, your U 16 gate extends also to full Super 16. So you just slap on a re-centering ring and you're good for S16. Framing is a challenge, but you are not stuck between sprocket holes if you want to frame for 16:9 or 1.85:1. Ah: focus. That is super easy to mess up with film. The viewfinder had some tolerance. So what looks sharp may not be in focus. I screwed up some shots with the Zenitar 16, which looked sharp through the viewfinder. I found out that I dialed -in 3.5 meters instead of 30 meters. The aperture was rather open, so the DoF was shallow. There are situations where you are unable to focus through the viewfinder.
Amazing footage! What was it like traveling with a K-3? I have one, but it seems like it may be a lot of effort to lug it around. Also, did you buy the K3 already modified to Ultra16 or did you do it yourself?
Thanks! Yes, it was very heavy and could be quite a burden at times. The camera plus film took up half my carry-on. So for my whole trip I only had a backpack and half a carry-on of other space. But overall, worth the hassle. I had my K3 modified to Ultra16 when I got it!
I definitely get some vignetting on the right side when fully wide. I hear it with the K3 and the meteor lens it can differ from camera to camera. For this reason I try not to be all the way zoomed out but sometimes I forget and it just happens. You can see this happening @2:51 during this video
The saturation we see here is what the stock does look like. It may be a matter of taste, but I feel the contrast (or black level) is very, very slightly overdone in the grading here, where personally, I would've allowed for a little more transparency. But it certainly looks a lot better than entirely ungraded.
Some of the sharpest 16mm footage I’ve seen! what lens are you using? Did you overexpose the image or what did you use to meter when shooting? Everything looks very uniform as well! Do you credit the sharpness to the low iso film stock and lighting?
Thanks! I had pretty consistent sharpness through all the different iso stocks (50, 250, 500) so I'd say it was more from the lens. I had the meteor 17mm-69mm zoom lens (the standard lens that comes with the k-3 camera). I used a light meter app on my iPhone to get the readings and overexposed everything by 1-2 stops. I did this knowing I was going to get a very good flat scan that I could make color corrections on. Now to be noted.... there were plenty of shots that I got that weren't sharp. Many out of focus completely. I just didn't use them for the edit. Hope this helped!
@@nathanmarin6927 Correct. There are 2 possible reasons. The first (not as common) but sometimes the diopter/viewfinder would loosen and change visual acuity since they are built to adapt (if needed) to people who wear glasses. So when that would happen it would look in focus but not actually be in focus. The more common reason was likely because in the heat of the moment I didn't go through the "proper focus method" which is to zoom up on the subject, get the focus, then zoom back out to the desired composition. This gives you the most accurate/sharpest focus. Sometimes I would have a wider composition on a subject and focus from that (which looked in focus in the moment), but in post when everything was enlarged I realized the subject was slightly out of focus.
Hi, what lab do you use to develop and scan your film? How do you measure light, seconic? or from an iPhone? what application do you use to measure light, please give the exact name. Thank you)

4k in 16mm? AMAZING!!!!
Sex and the city is avauble in 4K
Wonder if you know this or not, try gaffer's tape on your film magazine to stop the light leaks. That's what I did on my Super 8mm camera.
This is really beautiful looking footage, well done! Where did you have it developed and scanned?

Is the stock this saturated out of the can or has it been graded this way?
