As a person rooting for Kobe to get as many rings as possible, I was upset when Ariza left. Solid young player and actually respected by Kobe unlike most young players.

When I look back now, I think the lakers should have kept Ariza instead of artest. Sure, artest helped beat Boston in 2010 but it was clear he declined the next season. Ariza was younger upcoming 3 and D.

Diehard Lakers fan here. I love Ron Ron and was so happy when we signed him. But I wish we kept Ariza man. Kobe was turning Ariza into an Allstar when he was at home with us. I loved watching Kobe and Ariza playing together. We don't beat Denver and win the Chip without Trevor Ariza . . .
At the time I was upset about losing Ariza but in hindsight. Lakers don't win Boston in game 7 without Ron Artest and Ariza in his place. Ron was waiting for that moment, that was the biggest stage against the fiercest Lakers rival.
I wanted to keep Ariza because he was younger than Ron. Might have given Kobe 2 more shots at a title.

A lot of people right now already know that Kobe was a much harder person to guard than Lebron because of how talented Kobe was from an offensive standpoint. Kobe's bag was deeper than even Kyrie's because Kobe could score at will from any place on the court. There was a point when Kobe had 8 straight games of scoring 40 points in the NBA (at the highest level) and the only thing that stopped him was his coach (Phil Jackson) at the time.💯

Nah Kobe just shooted a bunch of tough shots, he was harder to guard iso because he would shot anyways, so you had to pray that he would miss the shots. The thing is Kobe missed alot of shots... The majority of times he was not taking quality shots but was making tough shots.

People look at Kobe’s field goal percentage and contrast it with Bron’s to basically diminish Kobe. Not realizing LeBron, at 6’9 barefoot, is closer to a center than a guard. Additionally, Kobe’s field goal percentage is based on a MUCH wider array of offensive moves (as well as deeper range), which is why he’s harder to guard. The majority of Bron’s field goal percentage is made up of shots within 5 feet. Bron’s field goal percentage beyond 14 feet dramatically drops.

Kobe is more efficient than LeBron outside of 3 feet. Inside of 3 feet, LBJ shoots 74% to Kobe's 64%. That makes sense. LeBron is bigger, stronger, taller, and jumps higher. 3-10 feet, Kobe 43.7% to LBJ 42.6%. 10-16 feet, Kobe 43.0% to LBJ 36.7%. 16-3pt, Kobe 40.2% to LBJ 38.6%. LBJ has the edge from 3, 34.5% to 32.9%. But you need context there. Defenders wanted LeBron to take the 3. LBJ is the best driver of all-time. He got cleaner looks from 3 than Kobe. LeBron has definitely turned himself into a very good deep shooter in the 2nd half of his career. But using context again, that is also a natural byproduct of how the game has changed. If Kobe was LeBron's age, he would take and make more 3's.

One of my most disappointed moments as a lakers fan is when lakers didn’t keep ariza, it was cool that they got artest, but I rather have kept ariza. 22 year old with top shelf defense, improved 3’s. Great on fast breaks and iq. Underrated part of the championship that year
Lakers wanted Ariza to stay, but Ariza’s agent was greedy after the good playoffs showing of his young client they thought he thought Ariza could get more money elsewhere. When the Lakers and Ariza’s agent couldn’t make an agreement that’s when the Lakers talked to Artest.
If people really pay attention a lot of former and current players who had the opportunity to play against both usually say the same thing…… we don’t hate on lebron but sometimes you gotta dig deeper than stats because they don’t tell the whole story or context…….
Kobe one of the more versatile scorers had lot of go to moves. Off right or left hand didn’t matter he was always adding stuff to his offensive game. His shot selection was his weakness to me but when he was hot he could really pour it on.
Yeah I think that was one of his flaws and kept him from reaching Jordan.

The way LeBron plays/played basketball is equivalent to how Magnus Carlsen and Bobby Fisher plays/played chess; he's going to punish the opposing side when something is out of place or undefended by using every piece at him disposal. Very strategic, consciously aware, and methodical.
Kobe played the game as someone who opens the game of chess with their queen; aggressive, relentless and successfully effective in Kobe's case. Kobe's game was immensely tactical. What was happening across court didn't matter, Kobe was focused on dominating whoever was infront of him with his full arsenal (Mamba Mentality).
Both are historically great players that achieved greatness within basketball through different means and mindsets.
However, for the few, trying to discredit either of their dominance and achievements won't enhance your own personal success. What they accomplished or failed at doesn't make you any more or less successful. So just appreciate the entertainment that they both have given us over their 20+ year careers.

This isn’t surprising in the least. Kobe had length, but he wasn’t packed with muscle, he had to use his skills and craftiness, and his god-tier fadeaway/leaner to get over defenders and we all know how well that turned out. LeBron has that muscle he can throw around and put his body into, not necessary a level of skill, but just using what you have as a tool, as an advantage.

When you ask a hopper about “guarding” someone, they’re thinking of your bag. From how many levels can you efficiently score if I’m playing the absolute best defense ever on you and have help, and how many different ways (moves) can you do that from for each level.
What Bron fans, and what most of the media heads who never played basketball do, is ask “who is tougher to guard” when they really wanna know who is tougher to STOP. This would be Bron easily as his scoring isnt about his talent for it, it’s more about his size, which can’t be taken away with good defensive like a mid range pull up off the dribble could.
The problem tho is to hoopers, your talent as a scorer is about your bag not your size. It’s the reason why Shaq isn’t considered a scorer even tho he’s arguably the most efficient 30ppg scorer ever.
Hoppers aren’t wrong about this either. At the end of the day, if you COULD neutralize Shaqs size, I’m not sure you’d still want to bet the house on the actual moves in his bag because he doesn’t have many.
Same with Bron. If you could neutralize his size, you need his driving game, and I don’t think that mid range fadeaway he just added to his game a few years back and that jab step 3 he does are gonna be enough to make him a difficult matchup.
He doesn’t even have a shot off the dribble. This is why hoopers don’t say he’s the hard to guard or consider him a scorer really.

The more fascinating thing is NOT if Kobe was traded to Chicago. It's the canceled CP3-Lakers trade that robbed Kobe, CP3, Bynum, David West (was a Dec 2011 free agent PF) & D-Fisher of the 2012 Chip and robbed Kobe of a 3rd Finals MVP. Viewed another way, Kobe would have taken those 2 achievements from LeBron. I can lay out a compelling case to prove it.
