Wedgemanship is KING! Former logger in Central Mid Atlantic, wedge learnin' is priceless! Haven't logged in 14 yrs but all the guys that used to work for me I taught wedge and they still practice it to this day. I still use it too and learn something new each time. Every tree is a completely different adventure! Love the channel!

Buckin', 3 yrs ago I had never run a saw in my life and my parents bought a 271 farmboss for me for xmas out of the blue as we needed to clear some brush/very small trees on a lot of ours. I stumbled upon your page and was instantly hooked on how technical this profession is and the skills required to safely & successfully do the job. I have been an avid watcher/learner since then and I can't get enough of it. It has gotten to he point that I am felling/bucking trees for my neighbors out of pure enjoyment & desire to gain experience..they think I am crazy but when Im runnin & banging wedges its like heaven to me. I am a CPA approaching 40 quickly and I sit in my office and think about felling all the time and I wanted to share my thanks and gratitude for all that you post on your page. All the best to you and your family, Cheers!

My old man always told me the small ones will kill you just as fast as a big one if you don’t know what you’re doing. Excellent execution and explanation of this technique! This was a perfect example of how important it is to know how to determine the internal integrity of a tree, before marking any cuts. Falling small diameter timber is dangerous. And even more dangerous when you’re dealing with rotten trees. Stay safe buckin. And god bless you, your family, and the whole buckin army!

Volunteered to cut down some dead trees about 30 years ago, climbed up a ladder and reached overhead with electric chainsaw, never did anything like this, just figured the weight of tree would chunk out the way it was leaning, i was wrong, the saw got stuck, that thing went over my shoulder, I hugged the tree and it touched my shoulder as it fell. All by myself i would have been a goner.
Now, many years later, i weigh all the dangerous factors and work toward the safest possible scenario.

Indeed, Buckin, ya can hear a saw talk to ya. When she's happy ..... and when she's not. Just yesterday we put a couple trees on the ground. A sugar maple and a red oak. Took a side leader off the maple by hanging it with a rope and pulled the rest over. The red oak had a large canopy and had to be rigged out. At the end when the 30'' dia spar was on the ground, and most of it was bucked up, 4 of us were chattin away. I listened to the MS 361 in it's last cut. It was grunting with a 24'' bar on it. I walked around the machinery to get a look. The kid was laughing at his boss's saw not getting anywhere fast. I started up one of mine and finished the cut. I looked at his boss and said, " Couldn't you hear your saw whimpering?" Yup, you can definitively tell by the sound how a saw is cutting.

BBR, I never see you make any mistakes in your videos. You should do a video where you talk (or show) your biggest mistakes. That would be interesting.

    O
Since you brought it up about putting a rope in a tree and wedges, could you do a video about when not to put wedges in
and use a rope instead, to direct your tree to go where you want it to go.

In Sweden and Finland a lot of people use a RH pusher. It's a jack that does not go in your cut. It has a handle with gearing. This was developed for small diameter leaners as they have mostly small fir and birch.

You got skills. When I started in 91 it seemed that everyone was good now it’s seems kids just go and get tickets and think they are it. I look good without even trying anymore. It’s such a shame.
