Billy Ray, these are the kind of videos I enjoy most. Not only do I like the tree climbing, but I really like the explanations you give regarding rigging. You explain why and how you do what you do very well. Please do more of these. I'm 64 years old and a complete novice, but I learn a lot watching you. Thanks friend!

The mumbling is where the true knowledge lies, reminds me of listening to my grandfather and the old welders and carpenters I used to work with! I love you channel, I am a young arborist, do line clearance for work but pick up side jobs. The knowledge of the older generations is often passed off as unsafe, but I love learning your techniques because you guys d8dnt have all of the fancy equipment we do these days.

Yes, I look back on all the things my dad and I done together when he was alive and in good health. I cherish every memory of those occasions that seemed so ordinary at the time. Now, they are priceless.
And Mr. Smith's son does think his dad is special! Had he not, then he'd be doing other things instead of working alongside his dad. This is clearly a show of the love and respect that a son has for his dad. 🙂

Buckin I need to thank you. I've been watching your channel for years. I've had a love for power saws for awhile but only ever on the ground. But not much longer! I'm a young 39 years old and have decided to learn a new skill. Bought some used Buckingham climbing gear, spurs, saddle, ropes, etc and I'm teaching myself to climb! (With your help of course) so thank you!! I've learned so much about saws and sharpening chains from you already, now I'll be learning to climb! I have a few huge white pines on the property that will be on the ground, chopped into fire wood before I turn 40!! Thanks again for your help and inspiration. I feel like a kid again excited to learn a new skill and save a ton of money in the process!

Dude I would never usually tell someone what to in the tree world because that's what everyone already does. Let alone ever take time to comment on a social media page. But it drives me absolutely insane that when I was learning from all these pros and badass climbers, that they never taught me the one thing that made climbing go from feeling impossible to absolute cake. They like to let you learn on your own and struggle like any boomers really haha. But dude when you are in the tree from the first two steps all the way to transitioning to splits and moving around the tree. Put your safety strap on and PUSH AGAINST THE TREE WITH YOUR ARMS. Your natural reaction is to hug the tree. Stick that ass out and push against the tree. It's the difference between being capable of doing the tree comfortably, or being terrified and frustrated and having to come down n give up. Trust that rope brother n good luck to you.

I have watched a buddy cut trees to drop without climbing when they are open areas along with him climbing too but he never had time to really show me or explain alot. I always asked questions which helped me Two months ago when i dropped my first tree which was 85 feet. Landed it 2 feet away from hitting the house luckily but after a cose call I have been educating myself to become better.. love your approach to facilitating your ground men, rigging techniques, and the way you explain the best way to keep the process moving while staying safe. I really enjoyed this video, and others you have done and this video helped me to understand a bit about rigging without pulleys and over expensive hardware that isn’t always necessary. I don’t necessarily use tree spikes, I use a climbing rope and another rope as a safety in case one breaks or as a means to navigate around a tree so I can relocate my main climbing line. Thanks for showing everyone your videos and your work and some education. Very inspirational stuff

9:26 Totally agree. I've been on the ground for climbers that bury the groundsman, makes their job so much harder for no gain on overall job time. In many cases, it actually makes the job take longer because it takes a lot more time to untangle things than it does to simply move it away from the tree as it comes down.
Having had that experience on the ground, both having been buried, and having been allowed to take things out as it came down, knowing that difference, i'm mindful of my groundsman and make sure to calibrate the methods I am using with them and their resources. If they have machinery to work with, I keep an eye on the pile and gauge what access they have with the machine or winch.
The job goes so much smoother and they aren't burned out at the end of the day. Morale stays high, and high morale means motivated crew.
I love working on a motivated crew, it doesn't feel like work. If work feels like work regularly, something is wrong, things need to change. I've been fortunate enough to work with motivated co-workers who like to do a good job in a timely fashion, take pride in having done a good job at the end of the day, having done the best they could with the resources available.
There are times when tree work is hard work, and there are no two ways about it. When there is an option to do something easier while being close on time, I go with that so we aren't burnt out when we get to the day where its hard work no matter what. An experienced crew knows the difference, a motivated crew appreciates that you respect their energy, and will apply the same motivation on the days there is no easier way.

Entertaining, Good with your cameras, Full of love, positivity, Skill, And knowledge. You are also an EXCELENT climber sir, extremely comfortable, good paced and always keep the ground guys busy to. I really love that one handed throw clove knot technique its pretty damn slick. "when in doubt. rope it out!!!" that wrap you took on the small limb was cool to see and take note of. your experience really shows when you left all the brush from the top cut in your landing zone and then blocked her down using one cuts that spun one time landing perfectly flat on the padding below, leaving the ground free of holes! I too love a good set of suspenders on my belt but I prefer to be tied into a tree at all times, Just give me a throwball and rope ;} and is that the Stihl 200? cuz its a straight up monster!!! wish they where still around, id give you 5 new 201s for a 200..

No matter how good your video content is, it is always better with Buckin"s mothers voice belting out the feeling of the soul that lies within all of us. We just need to shut up and listen.

Great video man! Love the up high camera angle combined with the slow mo shots from the ground. Great detail on the flip line and prusseks as well. Well done. One of the most enjoyable tree videos I've seen. You are a brave man. Stay safe.

Good one Buckin'. I'm wanting to get into climbing but on a minimal budget so getting to see and hear your process using only simple components was really helpful. Some nifty little tricks there I loved getting to see.

I stumbled across your channel; glad i did. I'm trying to learn everything i can about tree work. Ive got a bunch of huge trees around my house that scare the crap out of me every time the wind blows. I've fell a couple but it normally takes a hour or two to get the courage to make the cut. Ive got a buddy who's an aborist and he's super good at it so between TH-cam and Graham i'm starting to get a little more educated. Climbing gear is expensive.

HI TO SOPHIE; LILLY AND OLIVIA!!! Hey, Billy. Spent most of my youth in the tops of trees (scared the begeezers out of my mom) so I've been thinkin' of picks and flip lines lately. Got lots of tall spruce to practice on. PS Love yer mom's new track.

10:05 I totally agree with that, I'm a young climber but I started as a ground man and I felt so insanely upset when the climber completely covered us with branches and then he was complaining about why are we so slow... Well he did not like my answer

Worked with a contract climber at one of the companies i was at. There was a reason he was contracting, he was tired of bosses that didn't respect their crew.
