- In this video we get after another Brutal Review, and this is for the Losi Lasernut. Having had time to really test this rig, AJ walks you through what we've learned about this vehicle from Losi. Having problems straight out of the box, we didn't think this truck was going to be one we would run very often, but we were wrong. Absolutely fantastic overview and real world review. Everything you have modified and fixed are 100% true to real life normal wear and tear. I love the look if the original wheels and tires but you're 100% correct in what inevitably happens to them. I have stripped put all 4 of my stock wheels.

I really like the U4. After driving mine for a couple of days I had to buy a 2nd one. It's really not that great for jumps AVC or not. What I like is the fact that it can go over stuff like rocks and stuff. I think the stock tires work well but like you say they strip out easy.
I realize this is an older review, but RPM just released RPM arms for this car, and Exotek just released some new stuff for this car as well (Alum hubs, top brace, etc..). Hopefully that makes this bash worthy?

Loved my lasernut. Had a lot of issues out the box and losi took care of it over time. If I didn't destroy the chassis I would still have one. It was a great city basher.

@@AJJAMStudios Hello Sir! The Lasernut front bumper...well, not much of a bumper. All the bashing you have done with it, have you found it to be good enough? Losi does make one for the TEN-SCTE, but I do not like the look. How is your front end holding with the stock bumper from your bashing, Sir? Thx
I just picked one of these up and started a series with it. Needs a few parts replaced and I’m going to put the rpm arms on. Can’t wait to try it out!!!!

all 5 of my wheels stripped out also,dog bones broke and bearings disintegrated, BUT love the lasernut 😀 👍 👍

The one thing I do like about the laser nut is it’s multi purpose .. you can rock race it , track it , and bash it ..

U4 Racing, it's made for those bigger squishy tires so you can get up over the rocks, it's also part of the suspension. Great review and testing.

AJ, I loved the way it floated across terrain. But it just wasn’t for me. I did have fun with it but it needed upgrades for my driving style. Great review! As always your great!!!!

@@GuyOnTwoWheels I actually was looking at them early today at the shop before seeing your comment lol. I am considering it, looking up videos on it now. They had the kit on sale for $299 and the RTR for $499, debating between that and the DB pro. Or ima just say fk it and get a Kraton exb 6s lol
I have a Lasernut… Been awhile since I drove it, but getting ready to do a few repairs and upgrades. So far, I have swapped out all shafts for beefier parts, also , new drive cups, axles, aluminum steering, steering rods, stronger steering servo, added skid plates, added a Losi Course Truck bumper (TLR03008), beefier sway bars, removed the spare tire and added wing.
I had to do work on the center diff… seems a bit cranky from the factory. Check shims and oil.
I intend to replace all the gearboxes with CNC from GPM, the center diff with Exotek. Vitavon makes premium parts, but they are way overpriced IMHO. GPM, Exotek and Integy offer reasonable prices on the same exact stuff, mix and match at will (hopefully no incompatibility between brands). I am oscillating between CNC or RPM arms, BUT… I saw a review that the rear RPM arms are too thick to fit the original pins in… too short. So that’s a problem. I may just try the Integy CNC arms connected to the GPM gearbox. Hopefully that does the trick.
Integy also makes a CNC rear tire mount. I may try that also but just add the wing. I have had issues breaking that chincey stock rear plastic tire mount cage.
New wheels/tires also planned. I found the stock tries traction to be pretty good. Great drifting and traction when wanted, but def felt tall and “tippy”. Stock wheel plastic hex-mount is chincey as you noted. Def want to fix that issue.
Adding rear lights for easier driving at night. Front light work well. Drove this thing in packed street snow many times and boy does it drift really nice. So addicting to full throttle this into the driveway at speed going sideways. This is probably on place where the taller tires actually help out more: snow.
Also wanted to mention that I took the advice from Mojave Valley RC adventures website and moved the ESC and receiver. Battery is relocated forward and the receiver and ESC are behind that. This keeps it much cleaner and drier. I did have to drill out the chassis and champfer for the hardware. Not hard. Motor upgrade may happen as well.
Plenty of mods and fixes to make this thing much more durable and fun. I like to edge on bashing, but… this is a rock racer, so I’m not launching this into oblivion and expecting miracles.

Definitely agree with the wheel rims, they are very poor quality plastic with a stupidly shallow hex. I took the tires off and mounted them on proline raids..problem solved.
The diffs,especially the centre are pretty notorious for failure in stock form. Losi scte ten diff gears and proper shimming they are as good as anything else out there.
The arms ,hub carriers, spindles etc breaking I've never experienced myself. I've snapped a few hinge pins with really hard crashes but never any of the plastics ,they from my experience are super durable.
Also I've never had an issue with getting a 4s battery that fits.
The lasernut unfortunately has had issues since its launch (mine is a very early one) which being honest was very frustrating when compared to my DB and TT pro which were both pretty much bullet proof out of the box, but with a few relatively cheap upgrades is now every bit as reliable and durable as any of my other trucks.
No criticism intended here, I really enjoy your videos. I hope you stick with the Nut as it only needs a few tweaks to make it a 10/10 truck like mine😃👍 ...It even survives our local Bmx track which is an rc killer 🤩

It's technically impossible to be as reliable using the same parts with a heavier vehicles. We always have to remember 40mph with a 1/8 scale is 320 mph so it's still amazing reliable compared to its full size counterparts
I like the dbpro I made it a budget build using a older blx 185 I had feeling was on its way out with heavy 6s use , cheap Amazon light strips and 2 high power capable fans I get from computer servers also the small arrma heatsink and fan . Duratax sct wheels wider offset in back did accidentally but actually handles and tracks well
. The motor esc stay around 100 degrees even pushing on 4s , on stock spectrum motor . I like the dbpro but too perfect if that makes sense, just boring after bashing arrmas for couple years . They say racing 🏁 is pushing vehicles to the limits before going out of control , that buggy just eats up my course with no challenges or chances of being out control. Needs a track to be challenged. It's amazing how just little bit bigger or going up in voltage ⚡️ can change reliability or now pushing the rig to its limits . I thought it was a dog stock and they wanted us to stick to low gearing or 2s 7.4 volts
my tt pro has been great. never broke any hubs or arms.

Fantastic vid really like the info you guys provide. I have a question for you? I bought an Axial Bomber because I liked the rock racer idea, of course I made it brushless and spent a fare bit on upgrades because like you said about the Lazernut it just brakes every time I touch the thing, aluminum diffs all suspension arms you name it, anyway the steering servo mount is totally open to abuse and ua I know it’s a crawler but I’ve gone through like 8 servos and some of them very expensive, long store short it’s a shelf queen because I like looking at it and I’ve got a lot into it, the things useless for what I wanted it for which is a rock racer basher, jumper, steep hill climber, what If any do you suggest as a good starting point truck for this?
I’ve had my eye on the Lazernut by Losi for a long time now and after watching your vid I’m second thinking that too, not that im not willing to put the $ into it to get it there, I’ve seen things about Redcat that I liked as well, I have like everything Traxxas, Revo, Hoss, Maxx, Losi LMT but I’m really stumped on a rock racer and I’ve spent a tune on that Bomber and it’s cool but not that cool!
You are too generous, AJ! I am disappointed in my Lasernut. I didn't break an arm, but I did strip a wheel hub and break a dog bone, and I was running it on grass! It's too expensive of a truck and needing so much in upgrades with just a few rips. I think Losi rushed this into production to capitalize on the real Lasernut vehicle. For now, it's sitting on a shelf. Any buyers?
Surprisingly, grass has a high traction rating, so it is harder on the rigs than dirt. But that's not an excuse, the parts should be tougher, especially for the cost. Thanks for the comment 😎👍
I always lose durability going to the longer chassis of the said platforms. My granite outcast typhon were night and day more reliable than its longer chassis brothers . Ik we can't list emails but if used my name plus 1018 an aj doesn't mind I'd be interested. Some vehicles I use lightly or atleast lighter than others losis , kyosho more or less I buy for collecting. I use gmail
Thing is cool looking , look the new curry even cooler using same diffs and it huge but you won't be straining the gears .Joel you Still have a well thought out quality rig , just its partly a novelty .

Love my Lasernut, one of my favorites in my fleet... I stripped the rear diff, I'm starting to wonder if that's the reason the breaks were set so low from the factory.
The diffs come poorly shimmed from my experience, i went through all this with mine.
Losi have done a good job of giving a great truck a bad name I recon.
Scte ten diff gears, new shims in the diff and the ring and pinion gears will make it absolutely solid 👌

@@rcrangers2751 Thx Boss.... my new rig has done the same. I have the SCTE diffs in the center now. But need to add diff oil. The other two are still stock and not ready to change them now. At my current state, what would you recommend putting in the center with the new diff gears.
@@AJJAMStudios Did you say you added 500k to the center or you did a mix of something else? I added the new gears to the center. The F/R are all stock but I want to come up with a diff weight oil for the center now with the new gears.
Honest review, thanks! Sorry this is long winded. I got one of the first ones so somethings have been improved. I was very careful reinstalling the stock wheels, then using oversized serated wheel nuts which I loctite in place. I haven't stripped out a wheel. I love the extra ground clearance for trail running. For me the single greatest problem is the rear diff. It comes with a larger input bearing now so maybe the newer ones will hold up. I recommend replacing it one time after it breaks with the Vitavon case In the long run it's a less expensive solution. I have a lot of Vitavon on my Lasernut and it is my most expensive rc. Total blast on 4S. I don't bash it much. Interestingly I have only broken one control arm on mine. I've put close to 100 packs through mine. The Spectrum batteries keep count. I used it a ton during the lock down I have subscribed to the channel and liked this review. Keep up the great work 👍!!!
I cannot find information on larger input bearing with newer models. Is it your personal experience or information available online? Thanks
@@phyoaungkyaw85 I'm getting this information from the Fast Eddys website that sells a complete bearing kit for the Lasernut. I have not seen a newer Lasernut so I can't 100 percent confirm this. I would call Horizon Hobby or your local hobby shop to ask the question. That said, if I were to do this again, at the first rear diff failure I would replace it with Vitavon diff case off Ebay. Hope this helps.

I want one of these so bad, almost pulled the trigger today but decided to wait and research it before hand. They have them on sale at my local RC shop for $399 right now. I’m thinking about picking it up tomorrow and if I have to spend the $250 for the Vitavon then so be it. If I don’t go Lazernut I’m going with a Kraton or Sledge so I’d still be spending about the same 🤷🏻♂️.

I've had mine since December and I've been able to play with it maybe 4 times every time something breaks the thing that breaks the most with me is the pin that holds the control arm in the front I mean I just run it off the road into the yard and flipped it and it snapped the pin Have you any ideas on that or do you know of any aftermarket pins that I can get?

made a lot like imex samurai SCT the old one at least on the a arms nice for aluminum upgrades cool how one can use stuff on many brands .yea ill use something different than that brand 40+ hubs nope
AJ - in your unboxing video for this machine you said after the 2nd center diff rebuild you put a stiffer material in there. What did you use? How did it hold up in the long run?

It is a matter of what you want it for overall. Bashers come in all shapes and sizes. Durability "is" important but what you like is also as important. Driver style and experience also plays a big part in durability. Company matters to a lot of people too. Example: Traxxas Maxx and the Sledge are both awesome and tough as nails. Arrma makes good hardware, but most require an upgrade or three. Associated makes the MT10, which is 1/10th scale, but also requires an upgrade or two to get that high durability. You can find fireteam 6s on sale for 399.00 I got mine at hobbytown usa and that's a great price and then you can upgrade for a great basher

I've had my Lasernut for about a year now and I've bent multiple driveshafts, and destroyed two center diffs. If I could change anything out would be the diffs but aside from that I jump it and bash it like a cheap Ali express special

My Lasernut is pretty new & I’ve had it out maybe 7/8 times & I’ve broke something almost every other run. Now I seem to have things running ok but now the pinion keeps coming loose no matter how much lock tight I use. I Love the look of it & wanted to get my first Losi but man I’m thinking I I just get a money bit. I want to use my RC’s not constantly take them apart. Maintenance etc. is expecting & replacing broken parts but constantly taking them apart just because the pinion keeps coming loose which to me is a factory thing it’s nothing I did. But anyway would I buy it again I’m on the ropes with that question I see other Losi models I’d probably get now but no I’d get it I didn’t have that type of RC & wanted my first Losi so no matter my goal was achieved. But can I have some dam Fun! 😂
As far as the pinion issue goes, these parts are mass produced and there are times when the threading is not as precise as they need to be, and thus, the grub screw never really gets a grip on the threads inside the pinion the way it should, and this prevents the Loctite from working properly. Also, the heat produced by the motor during use nullifies the Loctite to some extent. I would recommend simply replacing the pinion with another one and your issue should be fixed. Mass production always has variations that cause wins and losses; that's the way of things in any industry. I might get a good one, while the next person might get a faulty one. It sucks, to be sure, but it is also the way it works. Thanks for commenting. AJ

Funny thing...I don't know what they are. My local hobby shop had the things in bulk and they were dirt cheap so I bought a couple of sets. I wish I could help but I honestly don't know who made them.

This time Im not agree I own 3 of them with some mods, only running in the sand or beach and they are wonderfull, depend a lot of your abuse over the driving style, is not perfect but if you runn them the rigth way they are very fun enjoyable and it a very nice looking car

See both point sums up the hobby . The lazernut going shine at the beach in its natural habitat. I bet the losi curry would be nice at the beach too . As basher we gotten spoiled with rigs geared just for that .we just crossing over there race designs in cheaper rtr fashion. I was going buy outcast 4s because ultimately I'm a basher too but than u thought how many vehicles no matter what I'm going break do I need. That's arrmas job bashing and I have rigs set up my style. Really thinking about the losi curry instead outcast 4s .

its kinda my 125mm drone battery should be like at the end of his possibility just to feed the normal consumption of the car...

okay i was 100/100 gaz ont the radio,
but ive like do 3 4 launch kinda impresive on red hig grip thing they put near sidewalk here
and now harf i can buy a new rear diff spur.. disapointed...
the losi mini8 was handling the smalest motor spur with the lagest courona for the shaft so max couple less speed for those launch well..
and those diff didn suffer, its kinda the mini 8 arm shaft dug halfway trought the exiting diff slot after 200 pack
(yeah ive put road tire smaler than mini king ping so less stress on the transmission but ive smoke 2 set of king ping before optimising the launch with smaler road tire but no main issue doing that...
and this lazernut diff rear spur death doint that 3 4 time with micro drone battery that was like 1/5seize of the recomended batt? ? ? da fuuck it is normal it broke so fast?

its like this battery short burst rated for 120 amp ... not the 130 that the esc is rated and with normal 5000mah half C rating of the tatu should able give peak power 2.5 time more than the tatu.. wath happen if u full gaz on road with a 5000 mah? that car will explode into part on the road???? daaa fuck??? and its me that borke the diff, the 4 first launch i didn hear any spurr stripping

We had issues with the center diff straight out of the box. Running on roadway is usually very high traction and puts a lot more stress on the parts. The battery should not be the issue here. We’ve found shimming to be very important when running on high traction. Any play in the diff could cause stripping. The diff will have to be rebuilt and shimmed properly. Best of luck 😎👍
Have u tried soaking the arms in WD-40 over night to get some more give out of them?? “Out of pocket” are you from Nor-Cal??? 🤣😂
WD-40 does work in that capacity. I have used it, but we try and find bolt on answers to these durability questions so the really new people can simply upgrade. That might be a little cautious on our part, but that's our focus. Thanks for pointing that out. You rock! AJ
If you're afraid to break it, it's probably because you're expecting too much, and you very well may break it.
You new age newbies need to understand physics.
Seriously, if you think at scale that ANY full sized vehicle could porprtionally do what we do with our rc cars your nuts.
Their meant to have fun with, not intentionally attempt to be destroyed and expected to survive.
If you don't know how to jump and land it perfectly, don't expect it not to break.
If you think it should take a scaled 100ft high jump and land wrong, don't be surprised if you destroy it.
Common sense people..
