    Description:
    In this video, we tell all for the Losi 1/5th scale monster known as the DBXL-E 2.0. We've had enough time with this bad boy to finally feel ready to bring this video to light. We've pushed this car in ways it was likely never meant to go, and still…it lives. Big, tough, and fast, the DBXL-E 2.0 is a definite warrior on the battlefield when it comes to ripping around and bashing. Of course, this is all our opinion, but we stand by what we say, as we will always tell you the truth as we see it. Does this mean we are always right?, absolutely not, but we do endeavor to be accurate and forthright. So come along as we revel in the carnage and the glory that is the Losi DBXL-E 2.0.

    Greetings from North Idaho... I'm new to the RC hobby (I just got a Furitek FX118 about a week ago) and am looking at different platforms/categories to grow my fleet. This is the first video of yours I've seen and I really like your style and editing so I subscribed and am looking forward to seeing many more. AJ, just a note to say thanks for a great brutal review and all the extras you did on this awesome vehicle. It made setup and upgrades way easier and took a ton of guesswork out of it. Mine was loose at the motor pinion like yours and took a little tweaking to get it right but now shes perfect. The frame braces and tire mods were a breeze and not super expensive. I agree totally though that it should have come with it. Mine wont ever see the abuse but having the peace of mind is nice. 6s and 8s are definitely where its at. Happy New year man and keep bashin em!

    I honestly think that this buggie out of the box is more durable than my Outcast 8s and EXB K8S are even after upgrading them with aftermarket beefier stuff. But I air out my rigs at least 30ft off my ramps, so that might not help. Still, the shocks, chassis and driveshafts are better on the Losi. Great info as usual. Great bashing!

    Lots of fun, great review! Had 1st version and sold it..this makes me want the 2nd one now! I would buy those aluminum chassis supports with it and install b4 i even ran it. Easy to spend money on these, i had probably 2200 to 2500 in my last one including the car price of course. Once u start upgrading stuff it's addicting for sure! I totally agree for 1200 dollars it should have the aluminum parts with it, other than that it's a pure beast!

      Thank you. If I may ask, why did you sell yours? Just curious of course. I get pretty attached to my rigs. And with the investment you put into yours, it makes me wonder, was it too fragile. I never owned the first edition, only the second one, and this one’s pretty durable. Thanks for the comment. 😎👍

    Very nice review! I got a very(!) moderately used DBXL one week ago and I love it. I own a couple of Losi's (including the DB Pro, which I also love), so this one was a no-brainer for 600€ cash. What needs to be mentioned is the great Paintjob and Design, which is next to the sheer size, a big part of the enjoyment for me. I also love some of the Traxxas Cars and own a Slash, Bandit and X-Maxx, but designwise for me only the UDR is on par with the DBXL 2.0. Concerning the alu braces I will wait how long the stock plastic stuff lasts. My concern is, that something else brakes or the chassis bends after really hard nosedive-landings, if the braces are too strong. The plastic ones are at least easy and cheap to replace... Cheers from Austria!

    When i got mine 2nd hand, after my first run with it i went ahead and stuffed the center diff with silicone ear plugs, nice and solid to allow for even power output to the front and rear diffs but with just enough give to not break things on those hard impacts and sudden shocks to the driveline.

    I recently absolutely scored a fully upgraded dbxl electric conversion as a roller in trade for a kraton exb I had a extra one I bought for 330$ on sale. Such a crazy trade. It's got all the Shiney aluminum upgrades and prestine body. Was babied. I put a max5 800kv combo In it and just ironing out a couple kinks. First run I lost a drive pin from the rear diff input and the second run my pinion loosened up on me but got it sorted. If you care to see the truck it used to be on a channel nezzys rc world losi dbxl brushless under the hood and you could see what a beauty it is! Great review as always buddy.

    Great video review AJ! I 've been running my 2.0 for about 2 years, stricktly on 8S with (2) 4S 5000mAh 100C. I like to keep weight down, but have the same aluminum chassis mods you have, plus few other little mods, like a billet motor heatsink and (2) powerful fans on the stock motor, Jofer skid plates, Hot Racing aluminum steering bellcranks / adjustable servo saver. I use a 5 channel radio, stock reciever.
    This buggy is super easy to drive and very predicable!
    I have had one wheel come apart, but that's all that has broken so far., so, it's quite tough.
    The only things left that I would like to upgrade would be
    1. The steering servo. It's too weak for me. It works and hasn't broken, but I would like stronger, faster steering.
    2. Possibly a stronger wheel, (if I can find one I like) but want to keep it as light as possible.
    3. Much thicker oil in the center diff. I've done this on other models and like more power to the back wheels.
    This DBXL-E is an awesome handling, durable beast of a buggy! The only negative with this buggy if I could find one would be the short run times, but that's to be expected with a heavy powerful beast and this is one of the heaviest models I have.
    I've been very impressed with Losi's. Losi's are awesome fun to drive and durable. I haven't run the DBXL2.0 as much, but I've run my SBR2.0, on 8S over 200 cycles, flogging this truck all year and it keeps going strong even in winter below zero F and with only a few minor mods like (rear chassis brace and skid plates). Its been super durable except for maybe the front bumper which I've destroyed a couple times. Overall Losi's have been very durable for me. I like your complete reviews and your concluding four questions and rating. Keep up the good work AJJAMStudios!

    Advice to owners of this beast: don’t run it in very cold temperatures. I broke an a-arm two days ago on its maiden voyage during some pretty light bashing. Fixed that and took it out yesterday to finish running out the packs and broke a c-hub. Temperature was about 20° Fahrenheit. The plastic in the suspension isn’t nearly as pliable as my Arrmas and doesn’t fare well in the cold for sure. Aluminum hub carriers, chassis braces, and c-hubs are going on, and hopefully RPM or someone will make some tougher a-arms at some point. I don’t want to go to aluminum for the a-arms. What little time I’ve run it has been awesome though, it handles great, it’s fast, and just a beast overall. Thanks @AJJAMStudios for the great and informative videos!

    After upgrading the reeper where does it rate amongst your big bashing trucks. im using your reeper build as an example on building mine love the way yours handled after putting side mounted battery trays on it and the copperhead 2s along with shock upgrades. as for the dbxle thinking about that one now but if they upgraded those parts that broke on yours ill definitely purchase it ---- way to much money to have weaknesses'. But if not that one ill purchase the 30 degree north lose5t clone. if you have any videos on that one let me know.

    Great video, Thanks for the review. I am looking for a 1/5 scale right now. If you had to chose between the DBXL or Krayton which way would you go? Also do you think the steering upgrade is worth it for either truck? I will be watching your Kraton review.

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. I would have to ask what you plan to do with it. Both are excellent if you’re considering the Kraton V2. Both are tough. But I would say the Kraton 8s is a bit more versatile. For groomed or track like situations the Losi may have the edge. Of course, you opinion of each car plays a huge role in a decision like this. Either way I don’t think you can go wrong. As far as the servo upgrade goes, I would only do the upgrade if you have issues by adding larger tires but stock the servo gets the job done. Keep in mind, faster servos are always better. The choice is yours. I hope this helps 😎👍

    Hey guys great video. I’m also new to this scale and area of rig, but man I can’t wait to get this I’m excited. I have a question. The battery I ordered 2 x 5000 100amp battery. Any suggestions out there on that set up. Plus any basic upgrades you guys would recommend watching this. Thanks

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The battery choice is valid, but you could go for a slightly larger pack set to get a bit more runtime. We run 6000 packs in ours and it seems to help. As far as the upgrades go, pretty much just the center braces, aluminum is the only way to go on that front. Then, just replace what breaks. It is a tough rig, but driving style makes a giant difference. It is a heavy RC and the weight transfer is enormous, so try and keep the frontal impacts down; sudden stops break everything at that weight and speed. Best of luck 😎👍

    Stick an 18T pinion in that sucker and you have something. That said, with and 18T in it, it will blow the stock tires off the rims. It has happened to me and a ton of folks on the web. This car is highly recommended but just know if you want to put an 18T pinion in it you will have to budget for wheels and tires also. Worth every penny of the upgrade and a total beast. If your sticking with the stock 13T pinion I have found the stock tires to be awesome.

    I’ve wanted a 1/5 scale Losi for several years but unlike most videos I see (including yours) I don’t have a large dirt field to run it on; I have to run my cars on soccer fields. Often with tall grass. Would you recommend this car for that environment?

    • @mach1941
      @mach1941 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My brother and I run our large scale RCs (Kraton 8S, Super Baja Rey 1/6th, Rovan Baja Max T, X-Maxx, DBXL-E 2.0) in tall grass a lot. The only time grass has given us issues is when we ran our cars for almost a full battery in tall grass and the grass filled the body blocking airflow overheating the ESC/motor. Thankfully no damage to the cars happened that way though. We are more wary about checking our cars for grass when playing in grass for extended periods of time since that incident. Also I'd recommend a baseball field as well if you happen to have one nearby. The clay from the field is fun to throw around, and you have the grass/dirt to run through as well depending on how well your cities/schools take care of it. If you can afford it it's a beast to have

    • @alimaleki217
      @alimaleki217 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mach1941 Very useful reply; I will try baseball fields but which of these is better in grass: Kraton 8S, X-Maxx, DBXL-E 2.0? It seems that the X-Maxx has more clearance than the others and is lighter but for all I know the narrower DBXL-E tires may be better?

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Both the Kraton 8s and the Xmaxx are well suited for constant grass running. Plus, they handle odd terrain pretty easily as well. The DBXL-E is also good, but the tires are not as aggressive and that might slow things up a bit. However, the Losi should out maneuver both of the other cars without tipping as easily. My Xmaxx rolls sideways fairly easily in the grass and high traction situations, while the DBXL-E slips and slides much more making it more fun under those situations. Check me if I'm wrong. As far as baseball fields go, I tend to stay away from those simply because of the damage the bigger cars can do to the clay areas. Constant digging up of the field may irritate the players and cause unnecessary drama. Just sayin', AJ

    • @AJJAMStudios

      Check a few things first. Is your adjustment on the radio center? Is the dual rate turned down? Is the servo arm set correctly? And lastly, are there any binding points in the steering? If all that passes inspection then another servo may be required. However, you may try rebinding your radio, that may help. Let me know how it goes for you. 😎👍

      The Kraton 8s is number one in our collection as of this writing. The Losi is a great car too, but the Kraton is a better all rounder. For track style performance, the Losi wins the day, but to go out and bash with the fellas in rough terrain, it's the Kraton all day long. The V2 is a lot tougher than the V1 was, and there are some easy upgrades you can put on it to make it even tougher. Depending upon your situation, the Losi is a better handling rig. With some minor mods it can be pretty tough as well; of course driving style has a lot to do with durability. Hardcore bashing, neither one is rock solid without some mods. With the Xmaxx it is arms and such; see our video on that one. With the Losi, it is center braces for the most part. Keep in mind, both cars weigh a lot, and impact can be tremendous, so piling either one into a sudden stop (a hydrant, or phone pole, or even a tree or board) will break even the toughest RC. For me it is hard to pick one over the other because I love them both. The Xmaxx is awesome in its own way, while the DBXL-E is also. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Check out our videos on both; that should answer your questions better. Thanks for asking. AJ

    Mine in it's current form, weighs 37 lbs. Way to heavy to do big jumps plus I suck at jumps and parts are too expensive to have to repair after every run. 99% of my repairs is because of me crashing it. After many repairs I've learned not to crash any more. I recently put a center locker in it, while it helped with acceleration, it's too much for the drive train. 2 bent rear axles at the same time and now front and rear diff needs to be rebuilt. Needless to say, the locker is coming out and the original center diff put back in. I run an 18t pinion and 46t spur, I get 57 mph on grass, haven't tried it yet on pavement. I also think the max 5 esc isn't up to the task for the leopard 58113 870 kv motor. I am considering an MGM esc, but they are very, very expensive, $735 plus shipping. I would try a castle xlx2, but I hear they are still catching fire.

      I see you've upgraded quite a bit in your DBXL-E. I prefer to run mine mostly stock. For us here the excitement is seeing how far we can push things without sinking all that hardware into the rigs. Durability is where we concentrate our efforts. For me personally, I like the power I get straight out of the box with this car. Perhaps keeping it below 50 mph is what helps me keep mine from breaking so much. I do hit the big ramps with it, and those jumps are usually pretty cool, but I have not broken the car substantially due to jumping...other than breaking the top plate and front chassis brace. I find the challenge of seeing how far we can push things "stock" to be a pretty heavy challenge. If you've seen our jumping videos you know how bad ass the Typhon 6s is. Here's a little secret about that car...its drive system and gearing is all stock, and we still hit 110 feet with it. Pretty cool huh? Thanks for the comment. 😎👍

Like I said, most of my breakage is from crashing into things, very little has actually broken just from running it. I had a rear diff bearing explode which destroyed the housing, pins on the front wheel axles have come out, plus I have all the stock spektrum electronics break or not function correctly except the motor, I have it as a spare. But the top bracket and front brace haven't broken yet, which is a very big surprise seeing as I've have some damn hard head on collisions. Over all it is a very tough buggy.

    If traxxas can give me an app on my phone why can no one with a decent channel give me a dashboard on the screen???

      Dashboard? Like from inside the RC?

      @@AJJAMStudios no not POV more like a corner of the video screen, not too big but not too small but like the dash of an actual vehicle. I’m sure just a Speedo with rpm gauges would do but an actual temp gauge would just be going the extra mile 🙌

    Aluminum? For the price it should be titanium. They mark up too much. Realize a set of 4 tires for full scale car is cheaper the a set up RC tires. You know how much more rubber we're talking about. ? So they have less customers.
    And now we have electric cars . Do a comparison

    Losi's quality is Sh*t, absolute garbage for the money that we pay. Ever since Horizon's overtake of the company the quality dropped drastically. I own a few of these DBXL'e and the quality is garbage....Parts are sloppy, there is play in the A-Arms and all turnbuckles and the list goes on and on.... Let's call them RC models, not cars lol come on man :) great video!
