@@bigjohnsbreakfastlog5819 Writing fanfiction has given me so much more respect for every Yugioh anime, because making engaging Duels is not easy. And I have the luxury of not having to have it be a weekly series, and not having to feature Dueling every episode. Worrying about my OC's decks being the same every Duel is a serious concern of mine, as well as each deck using the same cookie cutter staples. Yes, it might be more accurate to the TCG, but it's also boring and makes deck feel like they lack their own uniqueness. Although having to try and make a playable vehicroid's deck was like pulling fucking teeth.
Funny thing is that the guy responsible for scripting duels has stated that salamangreat of all decks was one of the hardest decks to write for because the pure version of the deck was so strong that it made it near impossible to write him losing or even nearly losing
@@thestain8004 ugh, not looking forward to that either. Making my cast feel powerful, while not so powerful that them being beaten feels unsatisfying is a chore. I literally have a whole-ass spreadsheet detailing how many times each major character wins and loses, to make sure that even if they do lose, they at least have a respectable handful of wins under their belt, while the losses still feel both entertaining and believable. In a fic where fucking Sho Marufuji is a major character. I have to make vehicroids seem believably strong.
Not only did that Kaiba trap against pegasus come out not too long ago, but because it's an exclusive to that one set that came in an attache case, it's like 100 dollars per copy lmao
36:18 Apparently the Egyptian spoken in the movie is actually pretty accurate with only a few made up words since we don't know *everything* about Egyptian. The word 'ankh' was (to our best knowledge) the word for "life" and "live" so it wasn't a random insert but Anubis commanding the mummies to live.
I gotta commend them for putting in the effort for finding legitimate Egyptian words. They easily could’ve spoken random words and no one would’ve questioned it
That is the most random unimportant detail for them to put effort into, when the rest of the movie is so slapdash. Who wants to bet someone on the production team was into Egyptology?
I remember seeing this movie with my grandma and loving it so much, especially remembering getting Blue Eyes Shining Dragon from the pack. It’s so bad, but still, I can’t help but love it.
I never got why from kaibas perspective he thought pegasus was lying about having two cards to beat the gods, one of them literally says "destroy the god cards" and the other is blue eyes shining dragon... I guess he was butthurt he hid a blue eyes card from him.
Because he only made Shining Dragon. It was Anubis who snuck Pyramid of Light in there. Thats why Pegasus was claiming he only made one, and Kaiba figured he had been lying as a result.
@JacksonJinn I think you're misunderstanding my comment. Yeah, pegasus only knows about the dragon. But from kaibas pov he shouldn't think pegasus was lying. He should think the pyramid is the card he was referring to.
I wondered the exact same thing 20 years ago as a kid. Blue Eyes Shining Dragon is just a monster with an effect that can destroy a monster. Nothing specifically mentioning the God cards or offering any specific counters to them. If Blue Eyes Shining Dragon is a special God card destroyer because it can effect destroy monsters, then so is Man-Eater Bug.
Yeah. There is nothing inherent about Shining Dragon that's a counter to the god cards. It's weird how Kaiba just assumed that was the card Pegasus meant for him to take. But apparently, he assumed correctly because the Pyramid of Light was added by Anubis.
@@justanothergamer9570 But its destruction effect killed Anubis which had strong enough magic powers to beat the gods, so maybe there is something special to it, after all, this is supposed to be a world where a card's strength and abilities are related to a spirit behind it.
Hey, check it out! At 27:42, they hadn't released Queen's Knight or Magician's Valkyria in English so they had to poorly edit their card names in a non-matching font!
16:20 my favorite thing Yuga from Sevens ever did was lose a duel where if he lost he had to stop trying to help a friend that was in need, and then went “yeah im still gonna help him” and then yeeted.
I actually played against a guy in a locals trying to run Pyramid Of Light and the Sphinxes. You know what's better than having a Dagger of Fate against Anubis? SAKURETSU ARMOR.
The best way to run the Sphinxes is to run Uriah at the same time. That way, you have a way to send the Pyramid to the Graveyard, and you get Uriah out as well.
If this was long enough ago they actually were fringe viable. Back when they first came out and for a very short while after they were actually a viable rogue deck. The tactic was using Heavy Storm and simmilar effects to pop your own Pyramid of Light and then OTKO your opponent with Thenian the Great Sphinx + Megamorph. It was by no means a top meta deck, but actually was a totally viable rogue deck all those many years ago way, way back in 200X.
My mum went with me to this movie twice when I was a kid because I didn’t get Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon with the ticket the first time. My mum is a fucking hero

@@sho9585 no. 4Kids re-write everything and basically changed the entire story whenever they “localise” an anime. That’s why the dub of the Yugioh series is so butchered compared to the Japanese version.
@@TheGuyWhoIsSitting that’s not their job though, their job was to bring the anime to an overseas audience but there’s so much censorship and nonsense in the 4Kids version it’s not even the same show anymore. Holy fuck I just realized that Blue Eyes Shining Dragon was the prototype for cybernetic dragons with Konami orbs that would define the future of Yugioh aesthetics. Thanks Blue Eyes Shining Dragon: now I hate you even more.
My favourite part would have to be Anubis using Inferno Tempest & Fallout to nuke Yugi & Kaiba's decks but Kaiba just picks up Blue-Eyes Shinning Dragon, like it was nothing. So basically all Amubis did was knock their cards off the table. It just gets funnier the more you think about it.

I agree with Rata on how hard it would be to make fun duels using every real card. I’m currently streaming a yugioh tabletop and keep the decks fresh and fun is my biggest challenge
49:58 This feels like when a TTRPG player tries to do the cool thing to solve the party's current predicament but whiffs the roll, but the GM just lets it work anyway because they've been at this for way too long and everyone just wants the encounter wrapped up already before they have to spend yet another session on it.
I know people have mixed opinions on YGOTAS but LK's Pyramid of Light abridged is still pretty funny. "Behold, the future. Since none of you will live to see it." *Plays the GX Intro*

Shocked Rata did not bring up the fact that Kabia legit won this duel when he attacked sorcerer of dark magic with shining dragon but the production team forgot how many dragons Kaiba had in grave so Yugi lives with 200 lp
The same duel has Kaiba use Card of Demise to draw 5 with 5 turns to use the cards drawn, and you expect them to get the other cards right? Also Yugi special summons Ra with Return from the Different Dimension which Ra can't be special summoned (unless you use the newer support that lets you special summon Ra but only with Monster Reborn, and only from the GY) I know the TCG/OCG versions of the God Cards weren't printed until 2012 for whatever reason, but still. Also Also, Blue Eyes Shining Dragon couldn't be summoned in the TCG until way too late when we finally got BEUD... "It never happened for 5,000 years, then it finally did!"
@@TheGuyWhoIsSittingRa in the anime can absolutely be special summoned. I had no idea about the mazinger stuff. That's cool. I also never realised that the simulation actually goes through the entire duel like it actually happens (pre-anubis intervention)
49:29 since you brought it up. As much as I love the yugioh card game/show would never want it to change, part of me always sorta wanted to see what the series would had been like if they continued with the original intent/pre DM. If you don’t know original Yu-Gi-Oh! wasn’t all about card games but just games/board games in general (with duel monsters being their version of magic the gathering). Your comment on the crew really rings true because I felt the gang were a lot more active during that time/versatile in what they could do. tea was a dancer so she was great at handling rhythm games & such, and while Joey & Tristan weren’t the smartest they were great at physical games like laser tag or ones that involve taking risks, they had opportunities to be active in the conflict. (Plus the constant talk of friendship fits thematically since board games at their core are meant to be with friends. I still love the series regardless and it’s been a big part of my life, but it’s one of those things that make you wonder
THANK GOD THIS VIDEO GOT RELEASED FROM THE SHADOW REALM I watched like the first 20 minutes of the original, left to do something, and when I came back it had already been copyright striked 😭
This was originally the only way to obtain Slifer the Sky Dragon in the TCG. Obelisk the Tormentor was a Shounen Jump subscription promo and the Winged Dragon of Ra was included in an Xbox YGO game.
Ngl, Anubis showing up in the dream/vision of the future, grabbing Kaiba by his head, screaming about Light and Dark, made him seem far more intimidating than he really was as a kid Not to mention, the creepy chanting in what I assume is Egyptian or a similar dialect
so something that genuinely bothers me about this movie is that a lot of media gets anubis wrong, portraying him as a sinister god of death, when he just isn't. it's kinda like what disney did with hades. normally this is such a common thing that it wouldn't bother me that another thing messed this up, but the yu-gi-oh manga actually represented anubis spot on, so the movie calling its villain anubis unironically makes the franchise worse, since even though it's not canon to anything, it's still gonna be the first thing a lot of people think of if you said "anubis in yu-gi-oh" kinda like how a lot of fans will start thinking of the capsule monsters anime spinoff rather than capsule monsters chess.

Bad news, Internet Archive is far from safe. Lawsuits and hackers are making operations there pretty dang unstable :(
36:18 Apparently the Egyptian spoken in the movie is actually pretty accurate with only a few made up words since we don't know *everything* about Egyptian.

@@sho9585 no. 4Kids re-write everything and basically changed the entire story whenever they “localise” an anime.

@@jk844100 I dunno, 4Kids still wrote an entertaining adaptation. GX is goofy but I love it.
@@TheGuyWhoIsSitting that’s not their job though, their job was to bring the anime to an overseas audience but there’s so much censorship and nonsense in the 4Kids version it’s not even the same show anymore.
Imagine if a company was brought on to dub Attack On Titan and instead of being what we know they turned it into a goofy comedy with all the violence censored, it’d be awful (not saying Yugioh is as violent as AoT, I’m just saying).
Like the “shadow realm” for example, that’s fake. That’s something 4Kids made up, whenever someone mentions sending someone to the shadow realm that’s just 4Kids censoring death.
They did the same thing for Dragonball Z too, in the 4Kids dub whenever someone is going to die they say they’re “fading into a different realm” for example when Chiaotzu is going to self destruct to try an kill Nappa they have him say “I’m going to try and take him to a different dimension”

So he did a Boogie and flipped the table?
The power of Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon allows it to negate the part where it can't be used for the rest of the duel.
@@SakuraAvalon I like to imagine the even funnier idea that it worked since Inferno Tempest stops you from playing YOUR monsters, so they cheat by having Yugi use Kaiba's Blue-Eyes instead of Kaiba using it.

Your comment on the crew really rings true because I felt the gang were a lot more active during that time/versatile in what they could do. tea was a dancer so she was great at handling rhythm games & such, and while Joey & Tristan weren’t the smartest they were great at physical games like laser tag or ones that involve taking risks, they had opportunities to be active in the conflict. so something that genuinely bothers me about this movie is that a lot of media gets anubis wrong, portraying him as a sinister god of death, when he just isn't. it's kinda like what disney did with hades.
normally this is such a common thing that it wouldn't bother me that another thing messed this up, but the yu-gi-oh manga actually represented anubis spot on, so the movie calling its villain anubis unironically makes the franchise worse, since even though it's not canon to anything, it's still gonna be the first thing a lot of people think of if you said "anubis in yu-gi-oh"
