I will note, however, that it sends Nervall, which is probably the most relevant thing for it to send ever, because that lets you start whatever dumb tribrigade combos you want.
Here's the most interesting piece of Harpie trivia you won't care about: They misprinted Harpie Girl during her original release by using the OCG artwork instead of the "censored" TCG artwork.
Similarly the original printings of the vanilla Harpie Lady were uncensored. And when they did finally get around to censoring her, they did so differently from the anime.
This is the obligatory comment saying that for the span of a couple of weeks the Duel links meta was completely dominated by Harpies and Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane. They were only removed from tier 1 because easier access to Digital Bug Rhinosebus pushed Gagagas basically into tier 0. Duel Links is one hell of a drug.
Harpies are the main reason for why Fire Kings stopped seeing play. Cyber Slash Harpie is the only reason for why they even see any play at all and it's enough to overpower other decks. Is the RDA-deck even good? Red Nova Dragon is a strong beatstick, but the deck doesn't have a lot going for it.
Two things I learned about Ojamas in this video: 1.) Their weakness lays in their toes. 2.) They’ve been dodging taxes w/ their artworks & will likely continue that trend in the future.
@@mikeoxlong1395 So he wants to be tied like Gulliver? It's pretty rare to like being subdued as it is frankly, let alone TinyDom which seems a whole new can of worms.
Love how you can easily see the change from older to newer support cards just by looking at the length of the effect. Seeing Harpie Queen having not even 3 lines of texts, then next seeing Channeler with 6 lines of text always makes me laugh.
I find it really funny that Harpie's Hunting Ground doesn't even depict any defining features of said hunting ground, and instead just shows a Harpie about to swoop down on the Ojamas.
Fun fact: did you know that "Harpie's Feather Storm" was translated in French as... "Le Dragon de Compagnie de Dame Harpie", which literally means "Harpie Lady's Pet Dragon"? Even though Harpie's Pet Dragon came out ages ago and had been translated as "Dragon de Harpie"? anyway no one mentions Duel Links please
They're really not that bad in Duel Links. Most other meta decks easily overpower them and they instantly die the second you do anything during their Normal Summon, which every deck in the game has the potential to do going first. The main things Harpies have going for them over most of the rest of the meta in DL is recovery (one of the best, IMO second only to Resonators), and they have a tiny bit more disruption than most decks (about on par with Gaia). They do have a very strong & consistent turn 1 board state when uninterrupted, but so do Gaia, Resonators, Onomats, Water Xyz, and several others.
@@jaernihiltheus7817 I can often play around Harpies using Photons. If I can stream their first summon it's pretty much over unless they chain Swallow's Nest. On a good day I've got enough gas to power through Cyber Slash, but they'll usually be smart enough to wait to remove Starliege Lord on summon.
Of note: the reason why Mai has no screen time in Dark Side of Dimensions is because it's a continuation of the Manga story instead of the anime. And in the manga Mai disappears after Battle City, never to be seen or heard from again.
I always saw the name "Triangle Ecstasy Spark" and, maybe it's my degenerate mind corrupted when I saw the uncensored art of Dian Keto the Cure Master, but...anyone else beginning to wonder what they're implying when they call it an "Ecstasy Spark"? Is the joke that they're well...uhhh...you know...doing something from a different genre of Japanese animation?
I enjoy how Triangle Ecstasy Spark and Ojama Delta Hurricane have similar artwork, together with the fact that it's seen the Harpies hunt Ojamas, make it seem lore friendly. Oh, and we all know Harpie's Pet Baby Dragon is a clear Joey reference.
I honestly wish all the archetype archives were like this, with everything being lumped together in one big chronology, it gives a much better idea of gow the archetype evolved over time
On top of the iconic Harpie look, gotta give a shoutout to the *mwah* Harpie Lady monster SFX. Harpys were barely on anyone's radar, so the anime wasn't making her sound like a Harpy - they were inventing the most iconic sound of a Harpy with her!
I'm glad we got the anime deck made IRL but it still lacks Glorious Growth, which was the real bullet in the chamber, for the deck. Spectre was one of the few really good characters from VRAINS, though.
@@pickyphysicsstudent201 Maybe they'll print the rest of the anime cards soon. And while yes, Specter was great character, Vrains had a bunch of interesting characters imo.
Also I just want to say, once all the jokes are done and the cards are analyzed, I love the end sequence where you give an overall summary of the deck while showing off the fanart. You always find the BEST, most evocative fanart that really gets me engaged and wanting to play the deck even if I normally don't care about it. Like I have a friend who stans Harpies, and I don't care about them, but that art was so nice and lovely that it just gets me ready to play some bird women. Even tho I won't. But I hope you know I appreciate the work that goes into finding just the right fanart to put under your voice.
The downside of Harpie Hunting Ground was it target spell/trap on both player if you have only this card on field and summon harpie lady basically card effect was destroy itself or destroy your own spell/trap card in process
Harpie is an archetype that really shows off the way the game used to be designed. Partially as a factor of how the original manga was written and how back in the 90s card games were still a very novel concept. Monster cards were usually bland with little to no effects and stats that almost made sense in the context of their level. While spell and trap cards were increasingly powerful with no restrictions of costs. It’s most certainly a way to do things but it something that could never have lasted. It’s still fun to look back on either way.
And now Dawn of Majesty is going to make Rata cover the support for "Alien" and "Triamid" ,"Majestic", "Stardust", "Synchron", might need honorable mentions as well. Edit: realized Dimer was in the Archive video after all.
The end artwork is so adorable :3 all of them, my favorite was the girl riding the dragon. I'm biased to harpies due to the retro style, though they barely got consistency until nowadays despite their potential. Ojama Lime's journey is always a treat. Where is Jeroid?
Back in the days of dueling network, I used to hybrid a Vampire Vamp engine into harpies as well as a Phalanx Pike. That no doubt sounds like madness, but it somehow won me many a game against meta decks of the era. Phalanx Pike is and has always been a meme instant death card for Harpies where you play it in the lategame and score a one hit kill, which was nice for a single copy of it, and if you drew it early, you'd just summoner monk it. Vampire Sorcerer and Vampire Vamp however opened some very interesting options. You had easy access to Dark Simorgh, could mill out spent Vamps with standard Harpie XYZ rotations, just consuming Dragon and Vamp instead of Channeler and Dragon. But, because Harpie could completely strip backrow and make attacking an absolute pain, and getting sorcerer killed was not very hard, you could at any time pull off a Vamp play once you had the enemy hand low and go for lethal. Later I added Red Eyes Flare Metal Dragon to the extra deck at one copy to set up a defensive scenario that would enable Vamp, since between the LP loss from REFMD and Vamp's ability to swing for giant numbers, you'd easily be able to take people to zero if they pushed into it. It won most of the time in rated duels and I actually got pretty high on the ladder with it. People just do not expect out of nowhere vamp instant kills.

Is it just me, or is Triangle Ecstasy Spark the opposite of Ojama Delta Hurricane? I mean, both attacks require three (originally) normal monsters coming together, they are almost perfectly opposites in the artwork, and we know from Hunting Grounds that Ojama and Harpy ladies fought. Lol and here I was worried she was drunk in a gutter somewhere with Launch. I’ll need to track that down

I thought mai was 17 at the time of the anime.l?
There’s a card named Hysteric Party that’s in a archetype about bird women… huh.
There's _Hysteric Sign_ . Sure, the myth portray the harpies as screeching women, but that's a bit on the nose, no?
@@KlavierMenn They also in-universe multiply by summoning eachother through parallel dimensions often shown as mirrors and reflections (Elegent Egotist, Hysteric Party, etc), which if I saw an evil BDSM monster-lady-bird-women start refracting reality to become multiples of itself then I'd be a bit hysteric as well.
It’s nice to see more Archtype Archive. Harpies are an interesting set of cards and I had fun playing them in Legacy of the Duelist reverse duels.
What are reverse duels
@@17-MASY after you finish a story duel in the campaign, Yugi vs Weevil as an example, you unlock the option to flip the script so you play as the other duelist. so you'd use Weevil's deck and try to beat Yugi.
7:45 Harpie Girl was among my first waifus and probably one of the key things that led me down the path of weeb, WHY DID I NEVER SEE THE MASTERPIECE THAT IS HER UNCENSORED ARTWORK UNTIL NOW ;-; Oh how happy the seven year old me would've been to see her like this
9:23 well you didn't say it this time so... _god I wish that were me_
Yeah her uncensored artwork somehow went under the radar for some reason when she was first released.
Fearsome Fire Blast is one of those cards that's absolutely broken, and we're kind of collectively holding our breaths while we all figure out _where_ it's broken (because it certainly isn't its native archetype).
I used to own a copy of the misprint. I lost it while moving and was pissed.
Similarly the original printings of the vanilla Harpie Lady were uncensored. And when they did finally get around to censoring her, they did so differently from the anime.
The harpies, A.K.A the most censured archetype in TCG
idk, flluffals were pretty censored too
No no no no, that title goes to the Dark Magician Girl

This is the obligatory comment saying that for the span of a couple of weeks the Duel links meta was completely dominated by Harpies and Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Bane. They were only removed from tier 1 because easier access to Digital Bug Rhinosebus pushed Gagagas basically into tier 0.
Duel Links is one hell of a drug.
Hot Red isn't even in the fucking game you fake fan
@@__-be1gk I guess the five that I own are only a figment of my imagination.
This all feels randomly generated.
@@Zzz-j2f Hot Red Dragon Archfiend isn't in Duel Links. That's true and what "__" is talking about.
I only noticed today that elegant egotist has faces in the artwork. Always thought that was just some weird looking flower
Two things I learned about Ojamas in this video:
1.) Their weakness lays in their toes.
2.) They’ve been dodging taxes w/ their artworks & will likely continue that trend in the future.
Oh no, my little tosies!
I absolutely love the "Once per turn" Elegant Egotist parody.
Cant wait for an actual card called "Harpie's Brother".
I wish I were that dragon.

Ahh everyone's favorite BDSM monster girl archetype. It'll make sense when looked at closely and smelt. See? Even RATA made the joke.
Harpies are great archetype but they all share one distinct weakness - they've all been censored by 4Kids.
Say that to my uncensored copies of the level 2.
_Deeeeeeeep_ cut.
Me: Mentions Duel Links.
You: Gosh darn it!
God, I wish I had a pet dragon.
What? The bird women? Sure whatever, I want a dragon.
Hello Seto.
Of note: the reason why Mai has no screen time in Dark Side of Dimensions is because it's a continuation of the Manga story instead of the anime. And in the manga Mai disappears after Battle City, never to be seen or heard from again.
Whaaaat? God dammit she was a great character
As someone who only started watching Rata about a month ago, I'm so glad he's back again!
I love how birdface is called birdface despite the rest of it being very bird like.
I mean, yeah, probably. This *is* an archetype that has had a bondage theme on the side from day 1.
And in Ojama delta hurricane. The Ojama’s are blocking this attack apparently. So the Harpies were shooting their........ _electricity_ at the Ojamas
They're BDSM birds; I'm pretty sure it's exactly what you think it is lol
"Robot dragon!"
**The entire fucking screen fills with monsters**
There's a lot of robot dragons in this series.
Wait you can actually summon cyber slash with lady sisters and harpie girl. this is the future of harpie ladies how is this not tier 0
If you change it to 4
but six from sisters and 2 from girl still makes 8 right?
At last Harpie Girl has a second use!
0:29 I recognize that OMORI somethings sfx anywhere. Good game :)
4:17 I don't know what made me laugh here more, P.U. Great Moth appearing on the screen suddenly or that gentle continuous fart in the background xD
Honestly, it would be interesting if Rata makes a video about Sunavalons at some point. The amout of memes and Specter content will be great 😂
Yes please!!
Harpie’s. The OG waifu cards.
The downside of Harpie Hunting Ground was it target spell/trap on both player if you have only this card on field and summon harpie lady basically card effect was destroy itself or destroy your own spell/trap card in process
Give harpie girl pompoms and a cute skirt, plus an effect and you have a perfect retrain of her "harpie cheerleader" perfect
That sounds super adorable
4:34 I see rata is a man of culture
Is this what it feels like when Dad actually returns from getting smokes?
Rata is like the dad who shows up around the holidays (or randomly) but is away on business a lot.
And now Dawn of Majesty is going to make Rata cover the support for
"Alien" and "Triamid"
,"Majestic", "Stardust", "Synchron", might need honorable mentions as well.
Edit: realized Dimer was in the Archive video after all.
The end artwork is so adorable :3 all of them, my favorite was the girl riding the dragon.
I'm biased to harpies due to the retro style, though they barely got consistency until nowadays despite their potential.

I’ve been waiting for this video for like 28 years now (since I was born). Yes, I love this archetype so much that I loved it before Yugioh existed
Ah yes, the archetype that gave a sizeable portion of the early yugioh audience a spandex fetish

Not until he finish with EVERY SINGLE HERO CARD.
Anyone else keep getting the Dark Magician statue commercial?
how do they even dress up those claw hands look ridiculously impractical for everything except ripping and tearing ojamas
I imagine on Harpie's Hunting Ground that Harpie Lady's eyes are glowing as she swan dives Ojamas
Rata: "Power gets a 3..."
Me: "Chain Feather Storm to negate and smack all your plays for the rest of the turn."
Response Red Reboot fine?
The second the notification popped up I made a noise that scared my roommate
Ok 2 minutes in and "if we find out you activated this effect twice per turn, your fucking life is on the line, but only once per turn" killed me
Is it just me, or is Triangle Ecstasy Spark the opposite of Ojama Delta Hurricane? I mean, both attacks require three (originally) normal monsters coming together, they are almost perfectly opposites in the artwork, and we know from Hunting Grounds that Ojama and Harpy ladies fought.
Is... is there yugioh lore that says Ojama and Harpies are long time enemies? Or am I finally going crazy.
not only that, Ojamagic also have similar effect like Hysteric Sign by adding 3 different Ojama's when it's send from the hand or field to the graveyard.
