@Waynesworldofgaming I'm around 400/500 ish into it so far. On your comments about physical games, the older stuff right now is crazy expensive. I don't wanna know how much I've spent so far. Ebay prices are a joke lately too

Great take on it bro you’ve covered all bases on this subject! I have told you my opinion on this and we see a different outlook for physical media as we know it and licenses being revoked so physical media we all own won’t be functional!

@Waynesworldofgaming I think in terms of quantity and choice, yeah. Possibly due to how many games now end up as indie titles on online stores, but you just don't get made aware of? In past gens, some of these games eould get full physical releases but now it's cheaper to skip and throw them online. Which is good in some ways (for smaller) developers, but you do then get pretty wild degrees of quality. But, yeah, it's been an underwhelming gen so far..
I agree with the playing games to get away from life.. that's why I play them, it's my coping mechanism.. I'm starting to lean more towards older games too

Great topic. Personally I only collect things I have an interest in playing and don't see the appeal of having a rare expensive game because it was a flop 20 years ago with a small print.
As for newer games they just put too much into them, I don't have the time to go on fetch queets for 20 hours of a 60 hour campaign. Give me 5-15 hour games all day!

You make some good points Wayne. I was only talking to a mate today about PS3 gaming popularity. Hes just dug his old one out for his boy. Loving it. No desire for modern games.
Also I do question if it’s worth collecting PS5 physical media (I’m physical as much as possible). The reason why is … games today rely on digital updates as soon as you put the disc in. PS3 and before media just worked as soon as you put in the disc. So have longevity still. Regardless of the need for a digital connection. My thoughts.
It’s seems to be what a lot of people are doing, that’s why I think the prices are only ever going to go up.
Would the ps5 games not just run without the latest update and not have the improvements and bug fixes on the updates?

Yeah to fair probably the majority will work. But for example my original PS4 cyberpunk disc would probably be broken. The full PS5 version I have includes the 2.0 update (I think) but wouldnt have the Phantom Liberty. To be honest I’ve not tested it. Just pondered ha.
@@Floyd_Mann I have no idea myself, just thought I’d ask 😅 yes i think different generations will have an impact as nes wouldn’t be valuable to an 8 year kid now in 30 years as they would have no nostalgia for it. To them ps4 would be retro and they’d be paying top whack to get those memories back

Fantasic topic! I have said this for many years and escaping reality, I'm with you and the wokey arguements, I'm with you too.
Physical collecting is a hard one as if you want some the heavy stuff. You've missed the boat. £525 for Rule Of Rose, you can do it if you save up. However, do you want to drop that for one game. I would never do it. All of my collection that is dumb price, has been mostly accidental.
You've seen some of it.
To me buying a game for that price that is crazy moola.
However on the other hand, you can have an epic game collection for cheap at the moment for PS2, Wii, DS, 360, PS3, PS4 and Xbox One, no problems.
You could get probably hundreds of games for a £5 and below right now on those systems and be content for a decade plus.
On the heavy side of all of those consoles. It will become very hard.
I personally got a heavy today, that everybody wants for PS3. (I'll send a pic soon) and I don't take it for granted, as I hustle for every game and it isn't going anywhere except for home. 😂

As he got into hardship at one point. Sold some games and was fine.
It hurt him to do it but he bought them back.
Why I always support physical for the fact that you bloody own them! You can do what the f*** you want to do with them. You own it. You want to turn it into a frisbee. (Which I won't 😂) you can.
If digital only happens tomorrow, I'll be on PC. It's 100 times cheaper for a start and all indy titles, start on PC. I'll be content for the rest of my life, even if my PC can't play all triple AAA gaming.
Completely agree with you mate, this I why I would say now is the time to buy as games are cheap enough (most of them) to build a decent collection, but I feel playing older titles is only going to get more popular and bump prices up.

CEX has reigned in prices to not be mostly stupid. Some are but without them. WTF would eBay and Vinted be right now over here without them.

ATM people should really be looking at the PS4 the games are still generally in ready supply but I've noticed that older titles and some of the recent release's are starting to get hard to find Signalis been a prime example.
Personally I have zero expectations for silent hill 2 to the point I probably won't buy it, uglifying Angela and the nurses proved to me that the current team have zero clue about the original game.
Completely agree with the ps4, some titles are rare and very pricey!

Personally I think switch will be the only console with physical games in a few years. Switch is probably the way forward
Well said !!!!! Personally I can't stand the fact you pay stupid price for a new game and it's just a download file! You can't beat having the physical game disc in your hand, Can see what you gota for your money. Also yes the older games are better without having to wait hours to download a game before you can play it, can't beat putting the disc in and playing right away!!! Rant over haha

I 100% agree, people can do whatever they want and live how they like but leave all this wokeness out of games and other forms of media - it does not belong in games.
I don’t mind it in games, if that’s how the devs have designed the game, but to change a game that teams of people have worked hard for years on to please a minority is just a slap in the face for the developers imo

The xbox 360 games going up narrative is fake, the ones that are a lot of money have always been a lot of money.
You maybe right, I have no idea really as I don’t collect Xbox it’s just what I hear. But spec ops flew up once it was no longer available digitally
I wonder what will happen when all of us "of a certain age" shrug off our mortal coils and bequeath our collections to a disinterested younger generation. Will the market be flooded and prices drop? Not that we'll be around to worry about that, but i do often wonder where we'll be in 30+ years time.
Oh, and rant away anytime you like. I couldn't find fault with any of your comments. I think we're all a bit sick of cookie cutter game production where the creatives can't be truly creative any more because of infestation by certain schools of thought and their advisory agents/companies.
More than likely, as I think in 30years the people in our age range won’t want what we have, there for the value will plummet

I say now is the worst time to buy retro games, hot subject and a pretty overpriced hobby as well. from lockdown to now prices just haven't made sense so i expect in 5-10 years time will be the ideal time to start collecting - number of collectors will drop drastically as this is a generational thing.
We are in the "money making" phase, hopefully that fizzes out soon.
I kind of agree with you, but I do feel it’s going to get worse before it gets better as prices are still increasing. I’d say buy them now or you may have abit of a wait before they go back down

I personally like inclusivity in games. It isn't "woke shit" to include an LGBT flag in a game. It's such a small thing and it shouldn't interrupt your enjoyment of a game. I hate that term so much.
I’m with you, I like inclusivity in games also,If that’s what the creators have decided. What I disagree with is developers being asked to change content to be more sociable acceptable. If you make a game, make it how you see fit and people shouldn’t force your hand any other way. It’s ruining creativity

Spot on with everything you've said, I've dropped buying games for my PS5 and gone back to my Xbox 360. Although expensive, it's a lot more fun collecting and finding games you've never heard of. The current generation feels dead already.
It is! This gen is garbage, I’m debating whether to buy the cheap ps5 games now in case they go up in the future and will cost me double if I want to play them
They didn’t change Mary Jane’s face in Spider-Man 2. They just changed the tech so she looks different. They did change Peter Parkers face though but not sure what that has to do with being woke. As for the Stellar Blade thing, I don’t support the boycott but thats a small minority of voices making that claim - I guarantee you that nothing throughout human history has happened without people having different opinions about it. It’s not censorship increasing, it’s a mix of times changing and you’re being exposed to more of it simply because of the internet where it’s easier to spread information and opinions. Video games have always had changes to them based on different markets they are sold in whether it be nudity, violence and gore etc ever since their inception. We’ve all seen entire features of segments of games removed for those reasons in the past. I’m afraid thats nothing new. I guarantee you if the internet didn’t exist we wouldn’t be exposed to 90% of the ‘news’ we see and hear nowadays.
Pat and Ian recently spoke on how even if an indie game is critically acclaimed (HiFi Rush in this case) the big developers aren't interested unless the game has a long tail/game service to be able to charge you for the years that you play it. I think the company who developed it, Kangaworks, got shelved even after making a hit which must be so demoralising for the indie developers. It's a sad business model the big boys are all adopting, I remember when Diablo announced a mobile game and that one guy in a red shirt called them out 😂 everyone was expecting a proper sequel and they got micro transactions shoved down their throat. I can't remember the last 'new' game I played that wasn't a remake, I guess Elden Ring would be it but even that was very DS like with bumped up graphics so didn't feel like a new experience. I'll stick to my retro, atleast those are tried, tested and complete 🤙🏻
