    Sorry everyone, I've just watched this on TH-cam and realised that the captions and pictures got out of sequence somewhere between the editing software and the TH-cam upload.
    I will try harder next time.

    Wow the accuracy with those cheap excite pellets is insane through that barrel. You're lucky to be able to feed your gun cheap ammo with good results!

      @@nickvending9688 I traded in a Vmach tuned HW35 yesterday for a new Lightning SE. Probably a huge mistake but so far... Seems great! The trigger is terrible though, as per your earlier videos. I'm tempted to try a CAT trigger conversion for the 1st stage tunability. Bloody gorgeous rifle, I must be mad!

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RuffsTV@RuffsTV yes the trigger does let them down a bit.
      If you are swapping in a Gamo trigger don't forget the Safety catch will move to infront of the blade, unless you can get the BSA's lever to work.
      Using a Gamo trigger with the Gamo safety should make it possible to use the Charlie DTuna trigger, now that definitely makes an improvement.

      CK interesting exercise carried out in a scientific manner, do you have your own laboratory or do you rent? Pellet selection is very important and can make a rifle good or bad ( or indifferent ) but as a scientist you would know this already, how about a pellet penetration test under laboratory conditions?

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @mikedolman7056 sadly not my own laboratory but fortunately provided to me free of charge due to the world changing scientific innovations.
      Pellet penetration testing would be an interesting one. The problem is material selection. One of the airgun magazines has a contributor that uses terracotta clay but the shooting has to be completed before it dries out.
      I'll be honest, it isn't something I currently intend to look at, but maybe one for the future.

      @mikedolman7056 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@nickvending9688 nick as a scientist what are your thoughts on the shape of the head of the pellet, as you know there are dome headed, wadcutters, semi and full pointed to name a few perhaps a lab trial is in order? And perhaps you could head one up.

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have found through extensive scientific research that dome headed are the best all rounder.
      Pointed are a waste of time, I've never found an accurate one.
      Flat head are used for target shooting because they leave a neat hole in the paper. As they are intended for target shooting many flat head pellets are high quality and as such more accurate than a mid range dome head.

    Hi Nick, great video and as your science proves you should definitely test a bunch of pellets. I absolutely love your sense of humor and great videos, it was most enjoyable. On the std deviation I read that a SD of between 10% and lower shouldn't influence POI up to 10m very much however with longer range shooting you want to keep the SD under4%. High end PCP'S are usually around 1.5% SD. That is %of the fps

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your comment, much appreciated.
      That makes sense, I was shooting at 25yards so I guess it was probably too short a distance for the SD to make a difference.
      I will have to get to a longer range and try again at some point.
      Thanks again for your comment, keep up the good work on your channel 👍🏻.

    I grew up on BSA air rifles. Had a supersport, meteor, gold star, you name it. I mostly use PCP these days but I do always keep a springer in the cabinet, I have the lightning XL-SE in .22 and other than the ridiculous twang it makes it's a very good rifle and I don't think I'd ever part with it.

      I must confess that my introduction to modern BSAs was the gun in the video and initially it didn't go well. However one very protracted rebuild later it is a very good gun and I wouldn't part with it. Agreed on the twang. I'd imagine there is a tuning kit that would remove it but now I've got the rifle shooting well I'm cautious of taking it apart again.

    This is one of the key factors of getting more accurate performance from any rifle. Sometimes you get lucky and the first brand and weight of pellets are bang on, but other times you need to test as many pellets as possible. My Artemis P15, I tested 30 different brands and weights to get the most accurate pellet, the majority of them were all over the place, though after many test I narrowed it down to 5 or 6 different pellets with close groups at 10 yard, then tested each of those at 5 yard intervals, from 10 to 15 to 20 etc up to 50 years and found that one pellet had consistent close groups at all distances whilst also staying in line with the vertical elevation as some groups began to drift sideways.
    This week I've been testing my BSA GRT Lightning .22 cal rifle and out of 30 pellets 19 are a definite no good, whilst 5 others are good close groups and the other 6 are debatable as to whether they had a flyer with a close group and 1 pellet out of all 30 had the closest group with more consistency. I will retest those 11 pellets again to whittle it down further, then test which ever pellets are chosen out of those at different range distance. So far the JSB RS 13.43 grain are the best despite JSB Jumbo, Jumbo Heavy and Hades, were all no good.

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's quite amazing really, the pellets that the lightning preferred were the cheapest ones and the most expensive ones. So I've bulk bought the H&Ns, because they also suit my air pistols.
      Although technically the GAMOs were the most expensive because they are in a tin of 200, I will be running them through a sizer to see if I can tidy them up a bit.
      Pellet testing, a great way to spend a day.

      I remember Browning bringing out an adjustable muzzle brake so you could wind it in and out to tune the barrel harmonics, I think it was on the A bolt, that was a fair few years ago.
      How thin a lot of PCP barrels are it would likely help them out.
      Probably not something I'm going to look at though, there aren't enough hours in the day already.

    All my pistols Co2 and ,springer the excite in 22 and a good rifle the lightning. C02 use bigger pellets why C02 is a liquid and it has more time to change to a gas there fore more power and 30m targets it become a very accurate , but turn it to winter and its the other way see 24 shots in the the summer but winter half the shots

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My CO2 pistols like the Excites too, as do my Gamo PR-45 and Compact. A very good pellet, I'm still working my way through a quite ridiculously large bulk purchase that I did a couple of years ago.
      The impact of atmospheric temperature on the performance of CO2 is pretty dramatic, I don't bother using my CO2 pistols in the winter.

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like the Lightning now it is rebuilt and shooting well (I came close to breaking it up for parts) but I much prefer the HW98 in every respect. Most important for me are:
      - The stock adjustment
      - The trigger blade is metal not plastic
      - The trigger feel is infinitely superior
      - The 98 is built like a tank and never needed work
      - The components of the 98 are all top quality, even after years of ownership nothing has worn out.
      - The 98 barely moves under recoil.
      I will say that the lightning is much better looking and being lighter it is much nicer to carry around.
      The new price of a Lightning will buy a new HW95 if you shop around, that would be my recommendation if funds can't stretch to a HW98.

      Hola, gracias por tu comentario. Disculpas por no saber español, así que espero que mi respuesta a través del traductor de Google tenga sentido. El rifle más silencioso que he probado es mi Air Arms Ultimate Sporter. Viene con un muy buen silenciador de serie. El ruido cuando se dispara proviene del perdigón que golpea el objetivo, el respaldo de metal suena con fuerza. Si puede disparar con una losa de pavimento inclinada hacia abajo detrás de su objetivo, entonces el impacto es más silencioso. También me han dicho que llenar el soporte del objetivo con masilla reduce el ruido, lo intentaré pronto.
      Hello, thank you for your comment. Apologies for not knowing Spanish, so I hope my reply through Google translate makes sense.
      The quietest rifle I have tested is my Air Arms Ultimate Sporter. It comes with a very good silencer as standard.
      The noise when it is shot comes from the pellet hitting the target, the metal backstop rings loudly. If you can shoot with a paving slab angled down behind your target then the impact is quieter.
      I have also been told that filling the target holder with putty reduces the noise, i will be trying that soon.

      Feliz de ayudar, mis disculpas por haber tardado tanto en responder a su mensaje. La mayoría de los rifles PCP se vuelven muy silenciosos cuando se instala un silenciador. Mi PR900W es silenciosa con un silenciador Kral, una carabinas muy ligera y divertida de disparar. ¿Qué marcas de carabinas de aire están disponibles para usted?
      Happy to help, my apologies that it took so long to reply to your message.
      The majority of PCP rifles become very quiet when a silencer is fitted. My PR900W is quiet with a Kral silencer, a very lightweight and enjoyable gun to shoot. What airgun brands are available to you?

      @@antoniomartin1526 En términos del pistón Nitro, puedo decir honestamente que mi Gamo es ruidoso, a pesar de que se le llama "susurro", ciertamente no es silencioso. Se agrieta como un .22lr.
      No he probado las otras marcas que mencionas, ¿podría valer la pena unirte a los grupos de propietarios en Facebook y hacer la pregunta?

      Hello, thank you for your comment. I had to use an online translator, it says you asked "Hello, what gas spring is worth?"
      Do you mean price or power output? Just the gas ram unit or the whole rifle?

    Gamo pellets are terrible inconsistent size not even good for plinking.

      Hello thank you for your comment much appreciated. The issues I had with the Gamo pellets in this test seemed to relate to the skirts. When they were shot from my S510 the magazine seemed to fix the issue as they performed much better. Still not great, but not terrible.
      Am I going to sit and size the tin of pellets - nope...
      Their pistol cup pellets are pretty good though.

      Hello, thank you for your comment much appreciated. The pellets make a huge difference with these guns. The silencer was already fitted to it when I bought it (secondhand).
