Hello. Ive got lots of aftermarket ECU work to do hence the info. Its been something Ive had planned for a while. Trying to build a reference for others and help the diy guys out. Cheers Kelvin
Greetings from the US ^^ I just found your channel today and man am I glad I did. I have an 85 xtra cab that I would love to one day stuff a 1uzfe vvti into and I can already tell that your channel will be an invaluable source of information. Youve got yourself a new subscriber :)
Hello from the US. Thank you for your videos. I find them very informative and thorough. I need help on a build for my 1985 toyota celica supra. I am doing an engine swap to replace my 5MGE with a 2JZ-GE non-vvti, N/A. I want to keep everything stock and i need help choosing the correct stock ECU and how to wire the whole car with the 2JZ ECU. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your video mate, I like most have burnt money going with Jared’s megashit ecu that was wired by a 5 year old . I have moved to link and the best ecu with excellent support.
1983 ke71 with first gen 1uzfe ported head and intake everything else factory, w58 trans ae86 dash and cluster everything works from engine to dash, would like internal wideband, delete cold start injector
Thanks for your timely response,Sorry Mr. Kelvin, It's a 2000 Gs300-2JZ,and I'm swapping to a 2000 GS400 4.0 1uz-fe vv-ti set-up.Would this change the equation any, thanks once again!!!! Love your videos, keep up the great job to help the lost like me to become better and more skilled like you guys @ CartuneNZ!!!!
Hey fellow kiwi here, Have just started down the link ecu road and a drift build I'm doing. What is the expected pricing for a wire in loom for a link g4x going into a toyota soarer with 1jzgte non vvti? was thinking about going with an AEM wideband so can have the gauge without needing a full digital dash/screen, do these work well with the link?
What specifically don't you like about the Megasquirt ECUs? I'm planning on running a turbocharged VVTI 1UZ on a Megasquirt 3 in my RA28, and a 5SGTE on a Speeduino in my RA65.
Hello Aaron. Over here I see lots of really really poor installs and every one that comes in is a mess. I did a tidy up video of one which shows one of the common looms over here. A join in every wire , no TPS , No idle control. Many years ago I wired one for a guy , tuned it and it has done over 130000km without any issues. Toms ute which is in another video also runs one which I spent time getting just how he wanted. Purchased a "plug and play" kit which wasn't what he expected when it arrived. Also most dyno shops over here won't touch them for similar reasons. Cheers Kelvin
I have a free haltech wiring series which is easy to find using the search function. I'm not booking more work at present until present workshop work is completed. Cheers
Great content as always. Building a 1uzfe in North America is rough and these videos help a lot. What would you recommend for an all motor build with sub 400hp in mind. Looking at cams and itbs pretty much. Thanks 🙏
Hello Fedora. Im thinking finding good info and tradesmen with knowledge over there is tricky. For a base level I would be heading for a link storm. I wired a drift car (silvia) which in time has similar build in mind, itb and engine running na. Hopefully Ill get around to editing the footage from that one. Choosing an ecu is more about finding a tuner competent with the product then having enough inputs and outputs to do whats required. Cheers Kelvin.
Lusty Wench I’m from Canada tho how u get states from that. There is literally no after market support other than camber kits. 1uz is not loved because of LS engines. If you want to actually build a 1uz you have to get parts from NZ and AU. Plus here in Canada ls400s are going up in price for no apparent reason.
Good day RYAN here I am thinking of putting a 1.8t 20v engine in a mk1 golf using the standard instrument cluster building a fun Daly driver that must be reliable what do you suggest I want all the bells and wisthles of modern cars in my setup was thinking of spitronics
Spitronics is a good ecu however its also a budget ecu therefore it does not have all the bells and whistles. I suggest writing down what you need to control on both the engine and the car , then match that to a suitable ecu.
have you made a video on how to wire up a after market ecu with a s1 1uz and auto box ? im thinking ltx10 with mine , liking ya work mate its very helpfull
Hello Mark. I have done many hours of footage but it never got edited unfortunately. Ive got a customer wiring one atm and Im hopeing to catch up with them next time Im in their area. The ford hotrod is VVti with stock trans and aftermarket ecu but didn't do instruction video. Nothing booked in atm on that sort of job. Cheers Kelvin
The monsoon is a great choice for an SR20. I have one here running a monsoon. I did some footage of the wiring but never got it edited. Very easy to set up too. Much of my onfo crosses over to other engines. Cheers Kelvin
Hi Kelvin, another great vid mate. I have a 100 series landcruiser with the 2UZFE in it here in Christchurch. I want to run your header kit as it will fit plenty of room. But these trucks have the post cat O 2 sensors which always seem to through codes after header install . I’m thinking of running a piggy back link ECU to by pass the O2 problem and just to get some tune ability as these factory ECU’s are totally locked by the sounds of things. Do you know of anybody in ChCh that can do this? As I’ve heard that NZ EFI don’t do it anymore?
Hello Nigel. I'm starting to see more 2uz coming through these days. I don't know anyone suitable for doing that job in Christchurch. Ive been wiring a car down there and expecting to do the setup at some point on it. Is your truck an auto? Theres a few tricks to keeping the auto working correctly. Cheers Kelvin
Looking to re-do a 1JZ turbo (non VVTi) in my MX73 Cressida, have been looking at Link and Haltechs. Doesn't need VVTi control, doesn't need DBW, CAN is not important. Would like to future proof it with capacity for Flex Fuel, so the Storm seems to be sufficient but I'm not sure if its worth going for the Fury to get inbuilt Lambda and Peak & Hold injector capability. There is also the possibility of getting the plug-in 2JZGTE ECU and getting it to work on the 1JZGTE (shouldn't be much to change surely?). Love your videos, any recommendations greatly appreciated!
Hello. Great to chat with someone who has done a bit of research. For me a wideband of some sort is pretty much a must have these days. I really like the Fury in that respect but if on a bit of a budget then a Storm and a Wideband - preferably a canlambda however any quality wideband controller is fine. Myself I really like internal wideband as it makes the install easier and neater. If you ever want to run low impedience injectors the peak and hold function is best as well to avoid the need for resistors. With the plug in it is important to compare the header plugs of the ecu to see that they are the same plug then compare pinouts and swap to make them match. Often the stock looms are getting untidy so a new loom is the way these days to avoid the issues of old looms. Hopefully this is helpful. Cheers Kelvin
Hello from USA! I have an 89 Mazda b2200, I also have a 91 Lexus ls400. I plan on making the engine harness I currently have (out of the lexus) into a sort of standalone harness. I have read that there aren't any immobilizers, also that the one plug required to run the computer and the engine harness can be 'blended' into my factory harness. Should be about 7 wires. I want to run the factory auto trans, factory ecu, and factory engine harness with the least amount of wiring possible. Am I on the right track? Thanks again in advance, just trying to learn all I can.
Hello Billi. That 7 wire thing is kind of funny. There were lots of 1uzs wired incorrectly using that 7 wire thing, I did one the other day running on 2 wires, didnt run correctly but it ran. My looms only need a few wires connected after I spend 10-15 hours tidying them up. All connectors are likely to break but i do it once and do it right. We did an older mazda ute a while back. I made a plug in loom for it and it went really well with the auto. Cheers Kelvin.
I have a 2jz gte single turbo with high impedence Injectors and auto transmission. Can I use link g4x monsoon to be run as wasted spark? Advantages and disadvantages of it? Any information will be appreciated
You can run as wasted spark however thats not my preference. By going to an ecu with more outputs you can have better control with fuel sequential injection and individual coils control. Monsoon will work and run however. Personally my choice would be a Fury for that application as I like the built in wideband.
@@CartuneNZ thank you for the quick reply, I'm using individual Coils atm. What is the actual difference and how much is the difference if we're can the difference be seen if using monsoon or fury in 2jz gte. Thank you once again
