  • ****Engine cover has since been removed as seen in the thumbnail.
    A custom 1:5 Traxxas Emaxx with a 25cc Echo weedeater mounted to make it go. Done in a short period of time on a minimal budget. Most of the parts are simply re-used or re-purposed junk. The body is one of the only things purchased; it is from a KingMotor T1000.

    Hey Parker. I ditto what my sister Janet said. We were raised with a father who was a mechanic and brothers who are all "wheel heads". I wish you the best in your great project. Keep up the good work. PS. I am also one of Debbie's sisters, too. Plus, we have 5 brothers.

    Hey Parker - great video! You have a "radio" voice - plus, you're a genius! I love the shots you did low to the ground. Makes it look like the real thing. One thing: how do you control the car? Just curious! PS - I'm Deb's sister. She shared with me. Janet

    • @makeshiftworks9779
      @makeshiftworks9779  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      janbrad1 Thanks so much! The car uses a radio-reciever setup. Simply a remote sends signals to the receiver which gives power from a small battery to servos, small motors that push or pull on my input. The throttle is pulled by cable connected to one of these. Hope this answered your question and thanks for commenting!

    How do you mount the drive shaft on the engine?

  • @jerrygarcia8966
    @jerrygarcia8966 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I realize this is an older video , and you might not see this . I would message you , but I don't know how . I was wondering if you could explain in more detail how you connected the motor to the transmission, and what kind of transmission it is . Usually the shaft coming off the clutch has a square hole on weed eaters . I'm trying to build something similar, and I want good gearing and the look you have here . Great video btw I love the truck . Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks .

    • @makeshiftworks9779
      @makeshiftworks9779  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is very interesting how it is connected, actually. I mounted the weed eater first, then built the drive shaft. The chassis is all stock Traxxas Emaxx and the transfer case and gearbox are as well. I simply took the bearing and front face off of an electric motor and mounted it where the pinion gear would go, so a shaft could go through just as the original motor did. It also fit where the motor mounting holes are so it is adjustable for different gears. Then I used an Integy Traxxas Rustler drive shaft that had the perfect diameter to go through and ride on the bearing. I ground a groove on the end where the wheel hub would go and mounted a Mod1 Pinion that fits a 2200kv motor. The universal joint on it allowed the weed eater to be at any angle. The other end of the drive shaft had a small hex- I found the socket from a tool set that fit it. This allowed the other end to be a square outlet for an extension. I just kept connecting sockets until I could get a phillips screwdriver bit on the other end. Believe it or not, some phillips bits fit perfectly into that square on the output of a weedeater. Once I got it the right length, I found a pipe that fit over the sockets to keep them uniform and straight as it spun. If I had advice for someone doing what I did, I would mount the weed eater last. I just happened to get really lucky because the angle was perfect. As for the gear ratio, a weed eater can run 1:1 and have plenty of torque and still go about 35-40mph, and this truck weighs at least 20 pounds! If you have questions, please ask and I will be happy to answer them. Also, I can email you pictures if you give me your email. Thank you.

    • @jerrygarcia8966
      @jerrygarcia8966 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for getting back to me I appreciates it a lot . . I know most of the ones I've seen are square inside . That was my main question , how you did the drive shaft . Ground a grove ? does the pinion gear have a key way or set screw . How does it attach ? www.rc-monster.com/proddetail.php?prod=5mm_bore%2C_mod1_pinion ....this link is of a pinion it has a set screw . Something like this ? I know the gears all have to be the same pitch . I will give you my email if you have detailed pics that would be great . Sorry for all the questions I'm mechanically inclined , but this is my first time dealing with rc scale setups . A lot of people in the rc forums said the nitro trans wouldn't hold up to a weed eater . It looks like it will work just fine though and have the right balance of speed and low end torque . t.long.est.1986@gmail.com. thanks for all your help you're awesome dude . Send whatever pics you have .

    • @makeshiftworks9779
      @makeshiftworks9779  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it is a pinion with a set screw. It is a large 34 tooth module 1 gear. The shaft it is mounted on was round until I ground a groove so the set screw would grab. Since it was a wheel hub, however, I still put a nut on the end of it to hold the gear on and not entirely depend on the set screw. It worked fine without the nut though. I sent you some pictures in your email. Thank you - I am more than happy to answer any questions for you.

    Hey dude, this is great, I'm great with engines but... what would I need to run a remote to the engine how would that work and would there be a specific remote and what not that I would need to use?

    • @makeshiftworks9779
      @makeshiftworks9779  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I'm really sorry for not getting back with you sooner! You should ideally use a RC car/truck trigger remote with a receiver box run off a small battery and plugged into your servos. You need at least a two channel remote. To name a few nice ones, I'd go with a Spectrum DX2e or a FlySky FS-GT2. Those come with receiver boxes. For a basic unit, the Traxxas TQ will work just fine. I'm specifically using a FlySky FS-GT3b. As for what not to use, I wouldn't recommend using a joystick aircraft remote, but it will still work. Hope this helps!
