    I miss my baby boy, who passed away at the age of 17 1/2 years young.
    Alfie was his name.
    I nicknamed him, " Target " targee" because that was the mark that he had on his side.
    Would I want another Cavalier King Charles spaniel.? You can take it to the bank I would.
    Your Herky reminded me of Alfie.
    Mai, may you have many more years of happiness and joy with Herky. 💔💙❤

    Hi! I love your puppy videos, this one was especially fun to watch and very helpful!
    So I'm hoping to save up to get a Cavalier King Charles by the end of this year and I was hoping you could do more care videos like grooming, normal behaviors for the breed, exercise tips, other training videos and diet videos? That way I can have a better understanding of the breed and have all the important things down before I find and bring my pup home :)

    Unfortunately, my puppy when he goes into the crate, he cried so much and so loudly. When we let him out he was soooo happy, but when we put him back in, he cries so loudly. Have any advise?

    • @kiaturunen
      @kiaturunen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      DhillyDally you need to wait long until the crying stops before letting them out. If the puppy keeps noticing that crying gets them outside of the crate then that's not good. I think your dog has already noticed that so it might take longer to train them back to good manners. But if you keep doing it in the same way it will pay off. :) good luck!

    Hi!! I'm getting a Cavalier this weekend!! From a breeder of course. I'm hoping that the pink in her nose will turn black. Did that happen to Your girl? And everything you had to say about training is so spot on!! My stuborn pug was potty-trained pretty fast using the crate and good praising!

Some cavaliers still have pink in their noses, but some turn black over time. Actually, Herky's nose is getting more brown with time now. She just turned 2!

  • @anyonebutyou87

    When she was 8 weeks what was the longest time you left her in the crate for?. I'm getting a puppy within the next month or 2 and want to crate train him but during the 10-12 week mark (because I have to work) I won't be able to release him from the crate so he can do his business. The longest he'd be left for would be a min of 3.5 to a max of 4hrs until I got home during lunch. I was looking at doing a play pen with a litter tray up until the 12-16 week mark when he could hold it a little longer than introduce him to the crate.. is it too late to crate train at that stage because he has learnt something different?

    • @FUNSTONTV
      @FUNSTONTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +anyonebutyou87 As soon as we got her, she spent the first night in the crate. I would say the first 2-3 nights, she slept 3-hour segments at a time. But soon after, she slept full 8-hour nights :) Are you only getting your pup when he'll be 12 weeks old? If so, maybe the breeder will have started the crate training? If not, I think he'll be able to hold for 3-4 hours. I think it's a good idea to get accustomed to the crate as soon as possible. They really like it, actually. I only switched her to the play pen when she was about 5 months old and wouldn't fit in the crate anymore. But if you want, you could put the crate in a play pen. I hope this helps you, and please don't hesitate if you have any other questions :)

    Great videos. I train my Cavaliers much as you do. However, I prefer to give almost NO treats when training. I have always used positive reinforcement. Lots of praise for following a command. Cavaliers have a tendency to gain weight, so I use fewer treats. I do enjoy your videos and use many of the same training methods with my puppies.

    So I'm living in a fairly nice spacious 1 bed 1 bath apt, I have a deck that I plan to block off so the dog can get fresh air when I'm not taking her out. I plan on getting a dog since I live alone the apt is like 820 or more square feet and the complex has a dog park and stuff. So it's a good environment. I plan to get a cavalier King Charles spaniel puppy, and spend as much as needed to make my dog happy. I already am planning on training classes and everything. I was thinking of doing pee pads inside in the bathroom or something while I'm gone. I want to crate train him, but I don't plan on keeping my dog stuffed up, I want us to sleep in my bed together. Is that possible? And any extra tips?

    • @FUNSTONTV
      @FUNSTONTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's possible to have your dog sleep in the bed with you, I've seen some people do it :) I would just be careful for accidents in the bed, especially if your dog is not potty trained yet :)

    Hello there! I have a few questions.
    My birthday is this February and I am finally going to get my own Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I am still in school, so I won't be able to be at home for 6 to 8 hours every day ( except for breaks and Satrudays and Sundays, obviously ). My question is, should I wait until summer break so I can be with my puppy 24/7 until he gets used to me and until I potty train him? I have a very strict mother who only agreed to get me a dog because I am mostly alone, so she told me if she'll get me a dog, she won't take care of it. What should I do?
    And if you teach your dog to do it in a special spot in your house, do you need to take him outside as well ( aside from taking him outside to play ) to go potty? I live in an apartment, so I don't have a yard.

    • @FUNSTONTV
      @FUNSTONTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Aiden Estheim Hi there! I think it's better to wait until you can be with the puppy 24/7. That way, the puppy can get used to you and you can potty train him properly :) I also think you can potty train your puppy in a specific spot in the house (use pee pads), but that doesn't prevent you from doing it outside to play as well. I think they will naturally know (eventually) to pee outside, as well as on their pee pads :) Hope this helps you!

    • @oliviaholmes213
      @oliviaholmes213 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Aiden Estheim ill try and help i dont own one but i am and ive did research i think its hard for all dogs in my opinion to learn tricks such as sitting and learning their name i also tbink personally u should get one for ur birthday in febuary because then in our six weeks holidays or whatever u will behable to spend more time and less time on ttaining if u know what i mean so it will already know its name and ull be able to walk it but if j r gonna get a dog and dont wanna spend a lot of time training a Yorkshire Terrier will do because they learn rrally fast and they have a mind of their own but with a bit of training will learn whos boss and if u look at the world smartest dog its a Yorkshire Terrier so i recommend them but they do have problems like the cavalier so if u dont want a dog with a lot of problemz or any really thr toy fox terrier will do itd a short hair small to medium size when fully grown no problems easily can get trained and also gets sue to all apartment or houses i think i hoped i helped if u have any more questions i would like to help even if its on a specific dog im only 13 but ill do alot of research about dogs and how they adapt so if theres another dog in mind ill be happy to help.

    Why do you let her bite your fingers? What if she did that to a neighbor or a small child?

    • @puffjelly
      @puffjelly 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't understand it the right way. The thing is that young puppies have their mouth on the inside itching yes, I mean like they also have teeth that they have to lose to grow new ones. The baby teeth (the ones they are gonna lose) aren't really that sharp. Mine bites my fingers all the time and it is okay it doesn't really hurt. Of course I wouldn't let it bite a young child and neither would she.

    so if I bought a 4month cavalier right when summer starts (june) and I do everything right and summer comes to an end (August) how do I adjust her to my school schedule without her feeling neglected. cause my school starts at 9 and ends at 3:10 and I don't get home until 3:45 and most likely someone will be home to let her go to the bathroom. But I just don't want her to feel neglected and/or not loved. Because I'm very affectionate towards my dogs

      Hi there! Cavaliers tend to have separation anxiety, so I'm not going to lie, it will be difficult on the puppy. I was in the same situation, but with work! I was at home with her almost everyday until she was 1, and then started work full time. She was very anxious at first and very sad when I left in the morning. I find that if she has something that smells like you (like a tshirt), it can really help. You can also shower the puppy with love once you get home :)

    Why cant she just Go arround in the Home when shes alone?

    • @puffjelly
      @puffjelly 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      .. Maybe because she _might_ bite things and maybe destroy something. I mean there are many things in the house she can eat like kables the pillows etc. I also have a dog (puppy)
      He would probably do that as far as I know him. But he is a good boy overall.

    8 weeks is way too young for a puppy to leave it's mother. Minimum 14 weeks gives the mother time to teach her puppy to learn to pee outside .the mother teaches a puppy so much in these weeks. So much easier than cruel crating.
