  • ••• SVALBARD PHOTO ADVENTURE •••
PART 1: • SVALBARD Photo Adventu...
PART 3: • SVALBARD Photo Adventu...
I am on Svalbard for 10 days to photograph wildlife and landscapes. My plan is to get dropped off by boat on a small desolated island and stay there for a little less than a week to enjoy life with wild camping, wildlife photography and beautiful landscapes.
SVALBARD Photo Adventure part 1: • SVALBARD Photo Adventu...
SVALBARD Photo Adventure part 3: • SVALBARD Photo Adventu...
It has been snowing during the night but as I wake up, the snow is slowly melting and gets washed away by the heavy rain. I am forced to stay in the tent and I am struggling to get any power from my solar panel because of the heavy clouds.
Luckily the rain stops and a great opportunity arise when I spot a lonely reindeer on my hike!
SVALBARD photo adventure - part 3 is coming on Sunday October 13.

I think the feeling of being absolutely alone and having a trusting interaction with a wild animal is almost spiritual. I have had quite a few and to me there is nothing better. It is sad that most people will never have the chance to really slow down or be in a place for that to happen. It is the number one reason I love photography so much. It puts me in those places. Thanks for sharing.

Yes agree, and hopefully you had the little rubber piece on the D850's bottom. Amazing what that little $7 rubber piece can do for weather proofing the camera and I always remember to replace it when removing the vertical grip. More cameras have failed and have been completely ruined by forgetting that little rubber piece, Nikon will usually not even fix a camera with water damage, so they are a complete loss. *Always remember to replace the rubber that cover's the contacts for the vertical grip!*

It is incredible when you can get that close to a wild animal, closer than their or sometimes your comfort zone would normally allow, and somehow you both know that neither means harm to the other. Yes, I really wish I had an opportunity to photograph some of the amazing landscapes and animals I saw while in the mountains of eastern Afghanistan. I was stationed at Firebase Lilley, about 4 miles from the Pakistani border at an elevation of about 8,500 ft/3800 meters. However it was an extremely dangerous place and I was forced to always have my rifle ready instead. Some of the greatest photographs in life, are the ones you don't or can't take! Instead you take a visual photograph in your mind and when I remember Afghanistan, I try to remember it's beauty. Sometimes harder said than done, because I saw a lot of ugliness there as well, but it was as beautiful as this island in the video. Great job, your video's are always getting better and I enjoy them so much.

Hi Morten - you capture the nature of wildlife encounters in Svalbard beautifully. Ephemeral, often brief, punctuated by...interesting weather - but always inspiring. Fortunately for ship-based tourism we have firm rules of taking absolutely nothing found in nature (as well as leaving nothing behind, of course), and I have to admit I was hoping you would say that you ended up leaving the antlers behind. With you it's just one person rather than a hundred, but you're still an example to the many people watching your excellent videos.

Fantastic to see what you are doing there Morten. I have experienced being alone in the wild a little, but nothing as remote as you are or are dealing with. It certainly helps you to connect with nature and use your powers of observation photographically. Keep it up, and look forward to more from you.

While the reindeer was looking at you, you were watching him with a love of all things in Nature. That is what makes your work so special, Morten.

I just made a cup of tea, so perfect timing :) What an amazing encounter you with the reindeer. These Svalbard reindeer look so beautiful. Maybe he was happy to finally have some company.
I'm slightly jealous of the antlers you found ;). I hope you were able to take them home. Really enjoyed every minute of this video and thank you for sharing your adventure. Can't wait for part 3!
