- Arcade lives! The focus may be on giant, open-world games these days, but there are still some stunning, incredibly playable arcade games being released that are sure to provoke friendly fights on the sofa and won't eat up all your annual leave. Featuring:
- Slam and Roll
- Ganryu 2
- Xeno Crisis
- Windjammers 2
- Vasara Collection
- Samurai Showdown
- Clockwork Aquario
- Trail Out
- Sengoku 3
- Deathwish Enforcers: Special Edition
Hello everyone! One correction to my voiceover that someone has kindly pointed out: the brilliant, Bubble Bobble-style game that appears first in this list is indeed called Slam and Roll, not Smash and Roll, which I am heard to say. Apologies to the devs and everyone for the mix-up! I'm old. I get confused easily these days...
Slam & Roll Rules!! 🎉
At least you aren't so old that you wander off with a loaf of bread to the supermarket to feed the toilet ducks.
@@sinisterthoughts2896 Ha! Not yet...
That intro had me rolling!
Ha, thank you! Arcade games are probably the better bet for a happier life overall.
Deathwish enforcers is basically sunset riders
16:43 is the Simon Greedwell (Sunset Riders' 1st boss battle) with different sprites.
Strider 2's only a half hour long, and one of my favorite games ever. 🤘
Ganryu looks awesome!
Even the loading screens are bad ass…I still play it occasionally on my vita.
Ah, Strider is a real classic. If like that, you'll love Ganryu. Thanks for watching!
“If it’s not fun, why bother?” Thanks for reminding me to look for games that aren’t bloated AAA titles
Absolutely! Sometimes arcade games scratch that itch in a way no other genre can!
Some developers have specific said they don't care if their AAA games are fun or not...
Try Roboquest, thanks me later
I just brought Deathwish and Trail Out after watching this, thank you for pointing them out.
You're welcome! Enjoy the games, they're brilliant fun.
Your content is great! Enjoyed the recommendations. Big games have become a problem for me, with work and raising children. I just got Ganryu 2 on the Xbox after this video. Cheers.
Thank you very much! Enjoy Ganryu, it's a great game.
So sad. You wanted to have kids in this current world? You'll never find yourself again you sad human.
For all the time I spend here, I so very rarely feel the need to leave a comment on most any video I happen across. However, with your impecable and entertaining delivery, and brilliant choice of games that is so very much inline with my own tastes, I had to take a few moments to thank and congratulate you for this great content. I will, for the first time ever, be ringing that bell for notifications! Well done, Sir!
Lol likewise. Barely ever comment but listening to this on the way home. Articulate and funny, you got a fan here
Hello! Wow, thank you very much - I'm honoured! I hope I can keep my standards up and repay your faith. Thanks so much for watching.
Another great video! Another great commentary! I really enjoy these Indie/pixel art games (mid 40's gamer here 😂). You've got another Sub 👍
And thanks again! Always nice to meet a fellow seasoned gamer. Welcome to the channel!
Great vid and awesome recommendations! New games added to the Steam wishlist 👍
Hey! I appreciate it, thank you. I'm really pleased you found some new games to try, and thanks for watching.
Keep the good work man! Amazing video =D
Thank you, I appreciate it!
FIIINALEEEE!! After years of videos like this by Americans who say heck instead of hell - and that's as close to edgy they'll ever get, i KNEW this would be darker after the intro offered those suggestions for making money by performing certain 'acts' on the docks. Different humour aside, all descriptions were eloquently put and still very factual. Add that ive become a huge Segoku fan thanks to MAME for android, and this was right on my level. Sir, I doff my cap. Subbed.
Thank you, I appreciate it. And welcome to the channel!
thank you for the video. Please show more arcade games to play.
It's my pleasure - and I certainly will be doing more arcade games in my videos very soon. Thanks for watching!
Great collection of games definitely up my street thanks
My pleasure, and thanks for watching. More soon!
Thank you for the video, I will check out clockwork aquario
My pleasure! Clockwork Aquario is a great little game, enjoy that. And thanks for watching!
Zeno Crisis reminds me of Smash Tv. I loved that crazy 2 stick game
New subscriber amigo, awsome video, long live arcade games
I appreciate it, thank you very much - and welcome to the channel!
Great video, really good selection of games, but they all lack one important thing.... scanlines (sry, i'm very old-school when i comes to arcade games) for the total-retro-arcade-immersion :)
I hope there's more to come!
You make a good point there. A few of the games in this video - Deathwish Enforcers, Slam and Roll and Sengoku - have optional scanlines, and I do like that old school look myself, I must admit. I'll try to remember to include more about display options in future. Thanks for watching!
Cool to see Xeno Crisis. Other favs in the genre Pang Adventures, Crimson Land. A great unknown, Tänzer.
Hey! Thank you, I need to check those games out. Love Xeno Crisis and anything like that. Cheers for watching!
I just wishlist Slam and Roll just now. Looks amazing!
Absolutely, it deserves to be a big hit. Thank you for watching!

EXCELENT SELECTIONS. AWESOME CHANNEL CONTENT AND BRILLIANT TAKE ON ARCADE GAMING TITLES. LOVE YOUR CONTENT sorry about the yelling it's loud here.
Haha! NO PROBLEM AT ALL! AND THANK YOU!
Im also start on this project. Collecting some retro pick up and play type games on series s.
0:50 Devs “Here’s a preview of our game, all that we ask is that you not get the name wrong!” 😂
Oh, bollocks! I knew I'd do that! I had 'Slam' and 'Smash' mixed up from another game. Hopefully everyone can still find the game okay, and apologies to the devs! I'll pin a comment to the top to help avoid any confusion. Thanks for letting me know!
@@Video_Games_Forever No problem. I just wanted to cheeky 😂
@@drakelacy2358 Ha, no worries. I do appreciate the heads-up, regardless!
Clockwork Aquario continues its 'being cancelled' streak by not appearing on Steam after it was advertised to be back in 2021
Looks like they're going for an extension to that world record!
Never heard of Slam and Roll; instantly loved it! I recently discovered old-ass Japanese computer game called ラリパッパ野球団 (Raripappa Yakyu Dan) which could be described as a granddad of this one so I guess that's a nice coincidence.
Thanks for the refference. Excellent old school game !!!
I need to check that out - thanks for the heads-up!
Great video and you got yourself a new Sub 👍 as a now casual gamer in my 40s this is the stuff I like , wish someone would remake a Chase HQ or Desert Strike game or something close 🙁 I currently don't know of any.
Hey! Thank you so much, I appreciate it. I'd love to see someone do something great with the Chase HQ formula. There are a few mobile games that have been ported to console and PC along similar lines, but nothing I could wholeheartedly recommend at an inflated price.
I'd LOVE to see a new Desert Strike. You can imagine how great the landscapes would look in 4K. One possible suggestion I could make for you here - if you're a PC or Xbox gamer - is Renegade Ops. It's more a twin-stick shooter, but it has those beautifully detailed, destructible landscapes, viewed from a top-down/isometric perspective. There's a variety of vehicles to choose from and you can team up with up to four players. It's been out for a good few years now, so you should find it pretty cheap.
@@Video_Games_Forever I'm a PS5 gamer but do have access to a PC 👍 and hear sega are going to release a new golden axe game but I fear making it 3D will f##k it up but who knows.. and thank you for the information and your time keep up the good work. 🫶
@@WarrentheGunner Yeah, SEGA are very much going back to their older games this year, and next, with new versions of Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and even Crazy Taxi. We'll all be watching with interest. Here's hoping they can make it all work... And thanks again for the kind words!
these Masterworks in your Video are to 90% my most Favorite Games! I feel me alone in Europe!
Oh, cool! I got really close there to listing all your favourites. You clearly have great taste!
Huntdown is a fun arcade run and gun game!
It absolutely is! I've got it at the top of the list on one of my other videos for five run and gun shooters. Thanks for watching!
Thanks YT gods for delivering this video to me! Just wishlisted Ganyru 2. Glad to see shmups make the list! Wreckfest is on my list to play soon! On a related not I recently released my first indie game, Interstellar Sentinel - It's as if Einhander and DeathSmiles had a baby delivered by Dr. R-Type. I'd be happy to collaborate with you on content send me a message fella.
Hello! Thanks for getting in touch, and I'm really pleased you've found some games you like. I'll definitely check out your game and thanks for the heads-up!
Rad, thanks, and I am looking forward to your upcoming content!@@Video_Games_Forever
Just a heads up. Xeno Crisis is hard in a pretty rage inducing way. It's damn near impossible to not occationally fall victim to the enemies that spawn from underneath.
It's very challenging, that's true - definitely have to watch out for those arcade-style random spawns! There is an easy mode, but you still have to bring your A-game to get all the way through.
Love that some these games are on the PSVITA 🤘🏻
Absolutely - such a shame the official support game to a premature end. Great little system.
great video
I appreciate it, thank you!
Dude... Deathwish Enforcers is just Sunset Riders. I'm in.
it's great fun - enjoy!
I think these younger games don't understand that games are supposed to be fun first everything else second
Windjammers 1's arcade mode was pretty difficult too it seemed like some classic Neo Geo quarter munching tactics to me
Agreed! Pretty much every arcade port to the Neo Geo was NAILS.
I totally agree with the intro. I am a family man and can only play for a short time with little time for myself.
Hey! I do hope that you get a bit of time to yourself with one or two of these games. More to come very soon, so thanks for watching.
Nice 😎
Thanks for watching!
The twin stick shooters Iron Crypticle and it's precursor Iron Fisticle are two of my absolut favorite modern "arcade style" games. I've have and have played a lot of good modern arcade titles and this comment would be even longer if i started listing more so I'll settle with those two. =)
Regarding some of the games in this video I really like Xeno Crisis but i feel it's a bit unfair with not giving you the true ending if you're using continues but you can bypass that with cheats. Ganryu 2 was fun and challenging in a good way until you reach level 4 and get absolutely bent over by unfair balancing. I didn't see any gameplay from that level in your video so i don't know if you have gotten that far yet? I have the Vasara collection but I've only tried it once. But the initial feeling wasn't that positive. I prefer Shmups like Crimzon Clover World EXplosion and Super XYX.
Really great channel by the way! Love to see channels that puts a spotlight on smaller arcade and indie titles! I try to crusade for these type of games myself when i get the chance! Just yesterday I gathered some friends and we had a blast playing Hotshot Racing together online !
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it, and fair points all. You've also made some great recommendations there that I need to check out.
I'd agree that a lot - if not all - arcade games have at least one difficulty spike that could threaten the life of your controller, and Xeno Crisis and Ganryu 2 are no exceptions. I must admit, I found myself going over and over one particular section in level four of the latter so many times, that I'd have been embarrassed to show anyone how badly I was doing, so it didn't make the cut, and I try not to show too much of later levels in the smaller games, for fear of spoiling too much. Which is also a handy excuse for when I'm being crap.
And thank you, I appreciate the kind words. I recognise that there are amoeba on as yet undiscovered planets that know what Call of Duty is, so I'm keen to promote the smaller guys wherever possible, and hopefully introduce people to a few new experiences.
Absolutely delighted to hear about your Hot Shot Racing sesh, it's great fun in multiplayer - and thank you for watching!
Vasara reminds me of Sonic Wings
Xenocrisis is also on Evercade. Supposedly a PSP port is coming too.
You're absolutely right - that Evercade system is building an impressive library of classic games, great for collectors.
I still dig out my PSP from time to time, largely to play MotorStorm: Arctic Edge - that's a good arcade racer.
Thanks for watching!
I'm hooked on Deathwish enforcers for pc
It's great fun, isn't it? Thanks for watching, and enjoy!
These arcade games with limited lives would likely take me longer to complete than a 50-100h RPG.
Ha! You're probably right, actually. Hopefully you'll have fun along the way, though. Thanks for watching!
09:19 yeah, read my mind! today is too much to learn. bar for this, bar for that...
I know, right? I think my favourite fighting game is still Super Street Fighter II, which has enough variety but keeps things relatively simple. And I love the old school pixel art graphics.
Thanks for watching!
April 11th for Trail out on xbox
Excellent news! The console ball is rolling...
Sengoku 3 looks really good
Hey! If you're a side scrolling beat 'em up fan, Sengoku 3 is a great choice. Quite a few characters and moves to master, and great fun in multiplayer, as always. Enjoy!
List of games. Please . awesome choice s
Thank you very much!
You da Man!
Ha! Thanks for watching!
I LOVE Wreckfest.
Awesome, isn't it? I don't know what's going on with this Wreckreation game the devs have been working on for a while, but we NEED a Wreckfest sequel. I'm just going to keep saying that. Thanks for watching!
Everything never experienced is da' humans bug 😂
FlatOut 12:28
Garou Mark Of The Wolves is the greatest fighting game ever made.
That's a fine choice, actually. Great animation in that game, along the Art of Fighting lines. Thank you for watching!
That last game looks decent but I’d rather play sunset riders…it looks like rolling thunder ish but…cowboy ish at the same time.
The developers are big fans of Sunset Riders, as you can probably tell. Deathwish Enforcers makes for a really good, modern update, especially if you're familiar with the films that the characters and levels are based on - lots of in-jokes. Thanks for watching!
WINDJAMMERSSSS
Yeah! It's great fun. Thanks for watching!
Ok
Can someone please get the IP of Binks Adventure and bring it back…..
That would be pretty cool! Hopefully someone like ININ might pick it up at some point in the future. Thanks for watching!
Why you are sound like richard from digital foundry
I don't know. Maybe I secretly want to be him? He's a clever bloke. Thanks for watching!
Ganryu 2 looks like a reskinned HAGANE hack.
Hagane's great, I haven't played that for ages. Ganryu's well worth a look for fans of that kind of game.
Bizarre that you didn't include "children" as one of the real-world responsibilities that takes up our time. Sure, our jobs, our friends, our dogs - those things take up time all right. But kids? They're 24/7, dude! And 365 days a year! Nothing takes up your time like kids.
Ha! Of course you're right, the kids are a massive consideration when it comes to free time. I hope you manage to get some much needed 'me time' at some point and get some gaming done. Thank you for watching!
Man, Ryu isn't pronounced "rhai-ooh", let alone ganryu, is not that hard to say it the right way.
If you have a clip of an official video with japanese audio from a capcom game featuring Ryu in which they say "rhai-ooh", show it, either way 1 instance doesn't prove what otherwise is the true pronunciation.
In France, they pronounce their capital city 'Pahree'. But I'm not French.
It's an international world here on 'Tube, and sometimes we just have to forgive the odd mispronunciation. I'm bound to be guilty of many more!
That's the most obnoxious like comment subscribe animation ever (and all such animations are unnecessary). Shame as your editing and delivery are great otherwise.
Hello! I thought three seconds to get the point across wasn't bad, and I do try to avoid obstructing any significant on-screen action. But I appreciate the constructive criticism, and thanks for taking the time with the video.
Wild Guns Reloaded from Natsume. Check it out. It's so good! They also put out a remaster/remake of Pockey and Rockey
I will check those out, thank you!
