Greetings from a new subscriber in SoCal. Good video. Glad Norms is branching out now. Under the company's original family ownership, I don't think they would have crossed state lines. Their mission was always to keep the chain small and manageable, as well as to close older stores as newer locations opened. Once the chain was sold, I had a feeling the new owners would capitalize on the chain's popularity by opening new locations and spreading out a bit, as they seem to be doing. Fun Fact -- Norms dipped their toe into the fast food arena in the early 1980s with a concept called Phil's...Fast 'N Friendly. There was one location, in San Gabriel next to a Norm's restaurant, and I was the General Manager. It never really caught on because nobody really associated it with Norms (it was named after Phil, one of the Vice Presidents of Norms) and closed in the late 1980s. But I do have a photo of the Olympic torch passing the restaurant on its way to DTLA for the 1984 Olympics, so there's that.
That's a great history lesson! I'm learning all sorts of new things about Norms. This is one of the best things about TH-cam. I've learned SO MUCH from the comments. Thanks for watching!
We just went there. The food was decent and we enjoyed it. I was not prepared for the spiciness in the Chilaquiles. My mouth is still on fire. Lol. Another great video!
I was not ready either brother! That spice got me lol. My day job is busy lately so I have some videos to catch up on but I'll be seeing your thoughts shortly!
I used to live near Norms in Orange, CA on Tustin Ave. Was a frequenter there for Breakfast. Always were pretty solid. Way, way better than Denny's, Coco's etc.
Norms was my go to during college for after party bites, sadly the location I frequented in San Gabriel was torn down a few years back and a hotel was built in its place. I will definitely visit this location the next time I am in LV for nostalgia but our pallets have certainly evolved since college...
Yeah, I'm in the exact same boat. Tastes have evolved, palates have changed, and the same frozen chicken tendies just don't hit the same anymore. But for nostalgia sake, it's actually pretty nice and the prices are reasonable for the times. Thanks for watching!
Hii Shin!! Being a Southern California girl, I used to frequent the Norm’s after a late night of partying on the Sunset Strip. You could always count on their late night food to be super tasty. Glad to know that there is a Norm’s in Vegas now, although I don’t think I will be up at two or three in the morning anymore! Thanks for doing this and see you Saturday!😊
Yes! SoCal raised here! I've been to that Norms I'm pretty sure. I must admit, making this video at 2am was rough the next day. Thanks for watching Diane! See you Saturday!
Personally, have never eaten at a Norms but will definitely try on my next trip to SoCal since they don't seem to have any location in NorCal. Thanks for another detailed food review.
We used to go to Denny's after pulling a 20 hour shift, but the restaurant was too close to the bar so we instead went to Norm's. We enjoyed Norms better and it became out place to go after long shifts. It had something for everyone and we all enjoyed it.
Memory Lane for me. Prior to moving to Vegas, I spent years living in SoCal. In the early portion of those years I actually lived very close to a Norm's, so I was a semi-regular patron, and like you Shin, more often than not dined there in the wee hours. I agree with your take that it's a step up from your typical Denny's, perhaps a bit closer in comparison to Blueberry Hill, altho Norm's menu is not as diverse. The Norm's here in Vegas isn't all that close to my home in the Northwest, but I'm making it a point to get my butt over there, if for no other reason than nostalgia's sake.
WOW! So much food. Everything looks good. Wondering what your waitress or waiter is thinking of all the food you ordered? Suggest next time traveling a short distance North on Decatur to Blueberry Hill Restaurant; good food, less price. Hope you review this one. Great informative video. Thank You!
I've done a video from the Blueberry Hill on Decatur and Flamingo before though I've never been to the one up north. My servers often just question what I'm doing it for and ask for the TH-cam channel. Thanks for watching!
Greetings Shin. Not posted for a while but thought I’d say hi. Being from the UK I have no idea what Norms is (outside of Cheers). But Denny’s is my go to whenever we visit the US.
Having been an employee of Dennys I can say that Norms is just better lol. If you have an opportunity to check it out and not in the mood for Dennys, I'd suggest trying. Thanks for watching!
I definitely would like to try out Norms eventually. I'll give it about a month or after the holidays to let the hype cool down a bit. I love breakfast so I'll probably will be going with the breakfast items and them having Thrifty ice cream, yes please.
That's something I should have emphasized more: Thrifty's ice cream is the shit! I love that stuff. Rainbow sherbet is my all time fav. I hope you like it when you try out Norms Jerry! Thanks for watching!
Hi Shin!I am new to your channel and I’m now a subscriber. You are so descriptive with eloquent and diplomatic critiques of all things food.Thank you for your info and ever pleasant personality.I did view your Q+A,and feel like I know you-not boring,+ super interesting. We are moving to LV in 2025 and will keep in touch.Have a fabulous day!
Always watch Shin even while on vacation . Had a Loco Moco today at Wolfgang's Steakhouse Waikiki (Not Pucks - crazy story) and thought that you would love it. Wolfgang Zweiner was a waiter at Peter Lugers for 40 years and started his own chain. Puck sued him but lost. The chain is mainly in Asia and caters to a Japanese clientele
The breakfast is definitely the way to go at Norms I think. The prices are very fair. This is one of the cheapest videos I've made in a long time. Thanks for watching Laura!
NICE looking NORMS compared to the ones i'm used too back in Long Beach, CA Usually the NORMS and DENNY'S in Long Beach are ghetto!! Going there today. THANKS SHIN!!
I've been to the Norms in Long Beach! My sister used to live in LBC so I was there pretty often lol. It's definitely more ghetto than the Norms in the video for sure lol. Thanks for watching!
@@VegaswithShin went there last night. Food not bad. Standard Norm. But the place is definitely more clean that the one in LBC on Bellflower Blvd (off the 91 fwy).
San Diego girl here. We don't have Norms. Denny's yes! Looking forward to trying norms next time I'm in Vegas. Shin, I love your vlogs! If you visit SD, try Family House of Pancakes in Chula Vista. You will love it. Tacos el Gordo is right next door too. I know you'll have room for a taco or 2. 🙏

Hey Shin, GREAT video. Just remember, when you were younger you always tried to stay up until 2 am just to "break the rules" now that we are older, 2 am is WAY past our bedtime! P.S. You should sell shirts that use your slogan "Every restaurant is a buffet if you're willing to pay. I'll buy one!

Thank you for all your food reviews, my husband & I are huge fans! We’re new transplants from CA. Have you had a chance to check out Rick Bayless Tortazo?!
Those tortilla chips look soggy. They should know that is not appetizing. They should serve the chips on the side and let the customer dip into the fixings. Also agree it's safer for lower cuts of steak to be cooked a bit longer. Good point. Enjoy your videos
Chilaquiles does have you toss the chips in a pan with the chips but there's a balance and they went very sauce heavy leading to the soggy chips. On the side is an easy solve. Thanks for watching!
You are being incredibly kind to Norm's. Your steak was way over cooked, a lot of pre-packaged frozen foods, and that was the nastiest looking tuna melt I;'ve ever seen. I think I will skip Norm';s lol.
Agreed, though it could be that my tastebuds have evolved too much from doing TH-cam and I can no longer enjoy food normally like I used to lol. Thanks for watching!
I think my tastes have also evolved since I was in my early 20s when I went to Norms the most. The pancakes were still objectively good. Thanks for watching!
Hey Shin its John. Nice review. Norms is okay for the west . Coming from New Jersey the diner capital of the world Norms would be your last resort . This is why diners are going by the wayside... low quality and still a bad value proposition even at a lower price point. Most of this food you can find in a Hungry Man frozen dinner. Better options elsewhere. Thanks for suffering for us Shin.
Lol, nostalgia is the strongest spice I like to say but you can only go so far with prepackaged frozen food. I used to love this stuff in college but my tastes have evolved lol. Thanks for watching!
You are my favorite local food reviewer. Keep up the great work.
I appreciate that thank you! Many more videos on the way!
Hey Shin! First of all.. your hair is rock-en it! So fun going late night at NORMS! Thanks for sharing these memories with us!❤

Why do they cheap out on the gravy portions? They need to add gravy to the biscuits and also the CFS.

Norms was kinda expensive for what it was. I wasn't too impressed.
I thought the prices were pretty reasonable. This is easily the cheapest video I've made in a long time. Thanks for watching!
@VegaswithShin have you went to blueberry hill? Similar prices but way better imo
There have been many days I would have paid big money for a Waffle House breakfast
I haven't been to a Waffle House in years!!
I'll take a pass on this one. I'd say below average compared to other restaurants of this type you've reviewed.
Happy to save you the trip! There's a lot of hype around Norms right now. Thanks for watching!
excuse miss
Hmm, sentence?
Shame they abandoned their traditional design.
It still felt like Norms in there to me. Thanks for watching!
They use real eggs
Way too much frozen stuff. I’m tired of all these restaurants serving frozen crap instead of making it fresh.
I prefer my food made from scratch also. So much better. Thanks for watching!
