    Hi Victoria, the european hamsters store up to 5kg of food in their burrow. I did film them this year and seeing them to 200m distance in once. The action radius of a male is about 10000m² and it is known that male hamsters can find their mate in rual area up to a distance of 1km. In the small remaining and declining areas of Vienna I am not the only one who noticed these hamster do keep rats away. The environmental protection department and the agriculture department of Vienna supporting the hamsters by seeding food plants in the green areas for them an other wild animals. Vienna itself runs a wild animal hospital where you can bring any kind of wild animals in need. I once brought them a female european hamster in a very serious condition. But the health department of the city is taking the fight against rats too serious by poisoning the rats, hamsters, ravens, prey birds, ... with rat poison. 2022 was a rapid decline outside of Friedhof Meidling by rat poisioning and in 2023 a sick red fox ate most of the hamsters in Friedhof Meidling. I never saw the european hamsters to be aggressive and I could see a father letting two of his self independent but not fully grown children overtake one of his burrows. All adult hamsters use their own burrows and as long they are not adult males they are living in harmony side by side also in small colonies. 2024 the european hamster is the wild animal of the year in Austria. If you want to know more of them please contact me! Greetings Alexander

    It's terrible how so many domesticated pets are endangered in the wild, and nobody seems to care besides our hamster community. But, i'm grateful that a majority of hamster species are still out thriving in the wild 🌲

    I can't imagine this big boy being domesticated. If the plain Syrian need a ton of space to be accommodated and are such great escape artists, can you imagine how much space THIS one will need? And how much more powerful biters, chewers and escape artists they'll be? Can you even imagine parents with kids putting this animal in tiny cages and expect this hamster to be all friendly and cuddly with them?

    Victoria..got a question for you that ive not seen anyone adress anywhere about hamsters. Since theyre natural habitat is in theyre burrows deep unground..theyre very in tune with the earth and are extremely grounded mammals. So when theyre in captive as pets theyre in plastic bottom cages or glass that arent grounded at all totally disconnected from the Earth...wouldnt it make sense to ground the cage some how? Ive never seen anyone talk abiut this and im not sure if your familiar with earthing and grounding but ive always had my bed grounded and use grounding mats and even have all my electronics stored in RF blocking material. Im super sensitive to electromagnet energy and since ive done grounding and blocking emf i feel so much better. And since hamsters are extremely sensitive too to electromagnet energy and high frequencies us humans cant hear and you see all over advice to never put them near a tv or computer or vaccumes...cus theyre so sensitive...so ive been working on finding a way to ground my hamsters aquarium.

    I am thinking to get a hamster, but my family goes on airplanes and travel multiple times every year, I watched your old How to travel with your hamster, but it didn't say anything about taking your hamster on an airplane, like if it costs money, what cage you should get as there is not a lot of space, and also it would be VERY helpful to know how much time you can leave your hamsters alone at home while you go on vacation.

    • @VictoriaRaechel
      @VictoriaRaechel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd really only recommend plane travel if 100% necessary like if you were moving or something! But just for a vacation I wouldn't want to put them through the travel stress. The longest time you could really be from them would be about 24 hours, so you will likely have to get a pet sitter like you would for a dog and cat :)

      Their care isn't too different, you just may need to comb their hair a bit more to prevent mats :)

    Hi Victoria I have a hamster but I’m giving him to my friend because I can’t take good care of it and didn’t clean the cage for a month is it the right decision?

    • @VictoriaRaechel
      @VictoriaRaechel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you feel as if you're not giving them the proper care then giving them to someone who can always is the best decision.
