Fished on the Betty G with a great group of fisherman! The original plan was to hit up Santa Barbara Island but Mother Nature prevented that with forecast of high wind. So plan B was executed and we fished Catalina Island. The bass bite was phenomenal! Boat limits on quality fish! The yellows made their presence known. Especially on the last spot. We were 0-3 on the big grade yellows. I myself contributed with 0-2. One was lost in a tangle that wasn't captured on the GroPro. The other one we thought might have a chance but these were big strong fish in shallow water with lots of structure. The fish usually win in those situations. This was my fist time fishing on the Betty G. It's a comfortable platform for small groups. Capt. Anthony is a fishy dude for sure. Abraham the mate was on point with service. Enjoy!
Thanks for the video you make a boring day interesting one question do you have problems with your torium Shimano reel I always seemed to have problems with the out of gear lever it sticks out too much too tall it will catch the line when I a jig also when I'm casting a jig I will get a blister from rubbing up against the lever with my finger or thumb so I cut the lever it off to just below the Reel frame and then put a rubber cap over it , problem solved
Just subbed man sick channel I’m from Bakersfield here in California looking to get my first salt water rig was looking at the penn squall 30ld 7foot do you think that’s. Good combo to go with ?
@14:40 one of the reasons why I don’t have larger Newell’s. Drains are jerky, no matter what you do. I still have a few p 220’s and currently fish all gold Trinidad’s, full rebuilds, and I love them. The a Trinidad’s are also a bad ass reel.
Great video Mother Nature has been crazy this year But good to see plenty of action bro On the gear you listed You have a 400 tern reel I want to get a star drag reel like that but don’t know if you like the casting control. What would you recommend for around the same price point?
ruben madrid I disengage all cast control features on my reels. Just don’t like the feeling of a hindered spool. Penn Fathom are great value reels. Daiwa Saltist and Shimano Torium are also in the price range of the Tern. 👍
Hey Jigslinger, Appreciate the videos as usual. Got a question for you. What is so great about Newell reels? Some say old technology some say timeless technology and weak drag compared to modern reels. What is your take?
Ive never owned a newell, but i know people like the graphite spool on them, its super light so they cast really great. Some say they outcast any reel on the market.
Derrick Hamilton When Newell first came on the market many years ago they were technologically superior at that time. Lightweight and freespool forever. I grew up fishing them. Modern reels these days are far superior now. Especially their drag systems and frame design. Newell reels still have their place. You can upgrade the drags and frames to increase their performance. Personally, I fish them for nostalgia. Usually with all mono or long mono top. Cuz braid tends to get ‘eaten’ up by the sideplates. Garibaldy is right...they cast great. If anchovies ever come back as the dominant bait you’ll see a lot more light spool designs like Newell hit the market. We’re all spoiled by casting sardines the last 25yrs.
Your reels need servicing....grease the dogs so it won't make that clicker noise when your reeling in. Your gonna wear out the dogs rubbing metal on metal

n6yun Can’t say I’ve noticed that in my Torium reels. Great that you found a solution for it. 👍
What's the max people that the Betty G will take out? That is a bad ass little boat!
Getting Bent With Bo 10. But 8 would be more comfortable.

Heading out on the Betty G next month to SBI... what fish do you catch there and what combos do you recommend?
Bucac Yellows and big rockfish
What pound leader did you break off on. 20lb.
girabaldy tasty Yeah 20lb. If we were in a little deeper water it’d be alright. Too shallow.
@@jigslingersfishingchannel3713 yah. Not much you could do
Damn, I was on my toes with that big one. And then.. I felt your pain.
Adonis Chan That the way it goes sometimes bro. 😫🤙🤙😫😫
What’s your editing platform?
Images look super clear !!!!!
VENDETTA10 KRAMPUS4L IMovie 👍
Was this a private charter
MishaFlyers 26 Yup it sure was 👍
Ouch, at least you tried your strategy to bring it up head first. How light of line was it?
Anotherflores91 It was 20lb. We were tight to that big boulder.
How much was the charter per person?
boarderhh It depends. We paid 150.

That makes sense based on my observation of what they seem to be used for........ Interesting!!!!!

I was on that cargo ship this summer small world
Michael Thurlow-Mendonca That’s a pretty awesome coincidence 👍
Love the Newell
Jorge Posadas Absolutely! 🤙
Nice vid man! Tough break on those yellows. I just posted a video of my trip on the San Diego! Go give it a watch!
RuggedSportsmen Right on. I will. Thanks! 👍👍👍

Steven Olivarria That’s the sweet sound of Newell bro! It just means the dogs are working. 🤙🤙🤙
YELLOWTAIL!!! Smh 🤦♂️ 😂
Danny Romo 😁 😁😁😁😁
