I got a chance to fish the Aloha Spirit on a charter with a great group of anglers! The plan was to target rockfish and lingcod as the surface bite hasn't been that great lately. Anything can happen when you're out fishing as we encountered a surprise wsb bite! Completely unexpected and pleasantly surprised! It was great to see people catching their first ever white sea bass. In our group of 5 only 1 novice angler managed to land one of these elusive fish! Congrats to Steve and all the other lucky anglers! The captain and crew of the Aloha Spirit is top notch. Really great to meet all the great anglers on this trip! Hope to share the rail with you again in the future! Enjoy!
Jeff Yoemans Great fishing with you bro! Thanks for setting us on this trip! Also thanks for letting me use that jig. I’ve got to get a few for when I’m fishing that area. Let’s definitely try to fish again this year. There’s a 2-day at the end of September if you’re available. Do the offshore thing. 🤙🤙🤙
@@jigslingersfishingchannel3713 I'm glad you and your buds got on this trip! I knew you guys would be part of the group right away. Loved that 70 fathom spot big reds and lings. I'll be at the Carson tackle meet the 8th if you want me to pick up a few jigs for you.
@@540slinger Right on. lmk later in week. Yeah that 70 fathoms spot was sick! How skilled is Capt. Shawn for putting us on it from that deep down and that small of a rock! That's freaking talent!
n6yun I usually do a bounce and let it flutter off the bottom or a few cranks off depending on the captain is marking fish. Vary the speed of jig movement until it gets bit. When all else fails drop and hope is as sound a strategy as any. Lol 👍
Hey man, got any reels that you might want to sell to a newb to the west coast sportfishing scene? Trying to get set up to try and hit yellowtail this year, maybe small tuna etc
I was on the Freedom when Stu caught his big Yellowtail that put him on the map !!!!! We were fishing with Captain Tommy Lee aboard the Freedom around Tanner bank in 2009 !!!! But the yellows at SBI around late Oct are beasts better than Cedros!!! At SBI it’s called the “Line “and you fish as legally possible as you can get to it!! Not many people know about it especially newer fisherman but man you don’t know till you pull on one of those !!!!!!! Now and days all the captains follow each other like a tour bus 🚌 which get old real fast ! But man the Freedom was a real fisherman’s journey before now all it does is follow the Thunderbird getting sloppy seconds !
VENDETTA10 KRAMPUS4L Great info! One of my most memorable wsb bite was on the Freedom many years ago! I’m hoping to be fishing SBI this fall on the Betty-G. 🤙🤙🤙
Derrick Hamilton On this trip I did. I used my surface iron setup cuz I was too lazy to rig up another setup. Lol Usually my go to stick for deep jigging is an 8ft heavy action rod rated 30-50lb range.
If it's for white seabass -- that's the only way I've ever caught one. Any deviation and the crew seems to get annoyed. Although they will let you use a leadhead, but mostly you end up sitting at the bottom waiting for a WSB to come along.
peterk814 This is bottomfish stuff. Nothing to fancy required. Similar to cod fishing or tilefish on the East Coast. There are nuances in technique for every region around the world. What all fisherman have in common are catching fish and having fun. No need to hate. 🤙🤙🤙
Jigslinger's Fishing Channel lol all you guys do is “yo-yo” which is really called squidding. You all use the same four or five type of jig brands. Expand your horizons. Doing the same shit over and over again not only is boring but ineffective. Can’t wait when ten years from now y’all discover slow pitch jigging and claim you invented it.
why don't you calm down? seems like you need to fish a bit more. To each it's own, If they're having fun, let them have fun, it's nun of your business after all

Jeff Yoemans The 8th works if it’s early. NFL opener bro. We’ll get you on some of Jon’s clamps too. 😎
@@jigslingersfishingchannel3713 I've got a union contract pre-negotiations meeting that morning. I'll see if I can make it to Tackle Meet as it opens.

Always a nice video thanks but you could you explain the technique for fishing with jig in deep water or is it drop the jig and hope for the best

Andrew Rollins That’s some great strategy info right there! Would work anywhere in the world. Thanks! 🤙🤙🤙

Bid-ness 😎🎣
Wow, never seen two sport boats so close to each other.
Are you using a 9ft rod for jigging?
Derrick Hamilton On this trip I did. I used my surface iron setup cuz I was too lazy to rig up another setup. Lol

we gotta go rockfish
Johnny Let’s do it! 🤙🤙🤙
Nice video!
Derrick Van Thanks! 🤙
Tip Dropper loop get you down faster and stay in zone of fish longer. Just suggesting.

Thank God I have a kayak
The jogging on the west coast is so primitive it’s hilarious.

Yah we actually use stone tools to craft our hooks too.
